Aussie Disneyland Planners come on in and lets plan together :)

I just rang V Australia and put in a seating request ( forgot to do it earlier!) According to Seat Guru they should be reasonable seats. Every time I book something else I do a little excitement dance  Getting closer every day...

We've only flown Qantas 747s before so I'll be very interested to see what the VA 777's are like. I've read a lot of good reviews about the seating - maybe this time I'll be able to sleep a bit!

My mum spoke to someone yesterday who had just come home from LA with V Australia. They apparently couldn't stop raving about how wonderful they were; extra leg room, wider seats and excellent food.

We are in Row 22 for both of our flights, which is right near the front (of economy anyway!) Where are you?

I'm glad to hear your Mum's friends's opinion :)

We are also in Row 22 for our flight home! , but we're in row 31 for the flight to LAX. I read a review that described that front section of Economy ( where Row 22 is) as being nice because it's smaller than the other sections. Can't wait to find out!

We have a direct flight from SYD on our way over but we had to come back via Brisbane - we thought it was worth the detour for the bargain price of the ticket. :)

We are flying Qantas in the new A380 and I can't wait, it's the main reason I booked the flight 12 months ago. We are also lucky enough to be in the pointy end, Hubby's seat 3A and myself in 4A. Too exciting, I want to take heaps of photos but hope I don't get embaressed, not cool apparently when sitting in First but hey, I wont see these people again so big deal.:rotfl:

The previous time to LA, I had the best sleep and it makes all the difference to how you are able to start your day when you get off the plane. Mind you I also take a very mild sleeping tablet, which I would never do when I am home but I do when I fly. We then hit Disneyland as our room wasn't ready but unitl about 2pm, we were exhausted by that time and crashed as soon as we made it to the room. Slept a few hours and then headed back to Disneyland, when you only have a few days, you can't waste it.

Don't feel embarrassed Czardas, just take the photos :) A couple of years ago, DH won a competition and we were able to fly first class to Hong Kong ( with Virgin Atlantic) It was awesome and as we're never likely to fly First again, I took lots of photos :) I was looking at them the other day and I'm so glad that I took them. There were also other people in the pointy end taking snaps so I'm sure it happens every flight.

One thing I learned from that trip was that even with a lie flat bed I still can't sleep on a plane!

A friend of mine also uses sleeping tablets on the plane - I haven't done it yet because up till now we've always flown with one ( or more) of our children and I worry about being alert in case they need me. Once DS is off our hands I think I might give the sleeping tablets a try! What do you take?

We thought V Australia was best airline we've ever flown with! We were in row 24 which was the end of the first little section of economy. Would definately request these next time too.:)

Yay! I've booked my Disney accommodation!! 6 nights at the Anaheim Marriott!! :cool1: Got a great price too, $74 US a night!

I also booked my return flights from LA to San Francisco this week too, so my itinerary is now:

Disneyland 20/12 to the 26/12
San Francisco 26/12 to 31/12 :hippie:
Los Angeles 31/12 to 4/1

I've still got to book a few more things but at least Disney is sorted now!!

That's great Lesley,
We just miss you, we arrive on the 25/12 but have a day in LA for a tour then head to Knottsberry farm for the 26/12 then arrive Disneyland 27/12-30/12. We then head to Las Vegas for new years eve.
Have you booked your San Fran hotel??
What do you plan on doing for NYE.

Great to hear lovintheland,
We originally had booked our flights with Qantas using points leaving 27/12 in economy. Then V Australia had a special deal where you saved 25% when using points, so I quickly moved some points out of my Amex and booked Premium economy for virtually the same amount of points as Qantas economy
and we leave 2 days earlier.:cool1:
Still haven't told the kids we are flying Premium economy, that will be a little Xmas present;)
I am really looking forward to trying V australia, they do seem to get great reviews:thumbsup2

Wow, first class will be fabulous!! We've only travelled first class once and it was only to New Caledonia, plus it was in the old days when a first class seat was just a very large version of the economy seating. Photograph away I say!!

We are flying United and I am DREADING it. The routing is revolting and they are so backward they don't even have the little personal screens. Plus their seat pitches and widths are about the smallest of anyone. Blerk!!

When we first looked, we could have booked Qantas on the A380s for the same price, but by the time the wedding dates were confirmed all the cheap seats on Qantas were full and it would have almost tripled our flight costs to fly them, or majorly mucked up the dates. So we will suck it up and survive. I'm very jealous of all you guys flying on nice airlines though!!

I just booked flights for my boss 2 weeks ago to New York.
We had a choice of $1100 with United or $940 with Delta, she was a bit hesitant to go with Delta but i convinced her to give them a try, I can't wait to hear what she says about them. She flew out last saturday and will be back next Saturday. Apparently Delta have all brand new planes (777) like V Australia, and you just can't beat the price.:thumbsup2

Wow Vegas for new years would be awesome!! I love Vegas but I couldn't fit it in this trip. What hotel are you staying at? I have no idea what I'm doing for NYE yet, hopefully there'll be a fireworks display somewhere in LA that I can watch.

I haven't booked my San Fran or LA accommodation, but I'm planning on staying at hostels, its way cheaper than a hotel and I don't mind roughing a little as it means more money for shopping!! :thumbsup2

Keptwoman: I flew United the last time I went to the US and you're right, its very squishy. I was lucky I got bumped up to premium economy on the way over, I think it was because I said I'd join the frequent flyer program, but on the way back I got stuck in the middle of a four seater and it was not fun!

Apparently LA has some great fireworks and some type of show down near one of the beaches.
When we were deciding where to spend NYE I looked into both LA and Vegas, Hopefully Vegas will be great.
We are staying at the Excalibur in one of their newly renovated rooms with a view of the strip. Not exactly my first choice but within budget. last time we stayed at mandalay Bay and loved it:thumbsup2
We figured if we got a strip view room, we could at least go to the room if it was out of control on the strip and still see everything.
Mind you we have done numerous NYE in Sydney and I can't imagine it would get much worse than NYE on the harbour

I believe this month.

Whilst we're talking airlines ..

We are going QANTAS and I was looking at their entertainment schedule for our flights , their are some nice movies for us to watch but nothing for the kids

There is a little mention of something called Kid Zone but I cant find any info about it - does anyone know what it is ? Are there Kid specific movies etc ?

Thanks

the Kids movies on Qantas are great, our trip was September last year & we've since flown to Perth as well...... so my memory is faded, but they were watching the latest kids movies at the time & Disney Channel TV shows amongst others. I'd expect to see Movies like Up, Madagascar 2, Hannah Motanna........ My kids had too many to chose from :3dglasses

I don't know what is going on with VAustralia at the moment. Our direct flight from LA back to Brisbane is no longer showing on their website - it is only giving options via Sydney. I called them and it is still showing in their system, so fingers crossed it is still there.

Also, check your seating assignments. I did our seat requests back in April and they have been changed. The seats we were originally allocated have been given to other passengers, so we can't get moved back.

Glad to hear that, Lovintheland. :)

I've been wondering - aside from a wider seat and the usual meals etc what other amenities do V Australia give their economy class passengers? I assume pillow, blanket but what about socks, earplugs, toothbrush etc? I don't want to make assumptions about what to bring for myself based on past QANTAS flights.

TIA

Probably something to do with them having to accomodate more passengers on these flights because their direct route from Melb to LA is not going ahead as planned until December.
We got told that we had to go via Sydney or Brisbane, so maybe your flight home is close to full?

When are you able to do seating assignments? I had no idea you could do it well in advance
