Aussie Disneyland Planners come on in and lets plan together :)

Oh and, we also did the transfer thing - I made some of the matchstick picture shirts...

Emum, how did you make that transfer? Is there a website that you can design those?

Also, I purchased the ANZ travel card today at .7552:banana:. Thereby guaranteeing that it will hit .80 in the next month :rotfl:.

Looking at the official rate of .7727, it appears that anz is taking .0175 which isn't too bad.

Hi Brian :)

I asked one of the lovely ladies on the Creative DISigns board here on DIS (one of the bottom threads on the pull-down menu) to make the design for me, and I simply followed the instructions on the transfer paper to pop it onto t-shirts. I'm pretty sure the paper was made by Avery from memory. I bought it at Lincraft.

One word of advice - you need to follow the instructions to the T. I started to get a bit slack with the ironing for the youngest two's shirts, and the transfer simply didn't last beyond a couple of washes - it started peeling off the back in quite big chunks.

Great news on the travel card - I think you bought it at a good time :) (but what do I know ? ;) ).

Cheers,
Sally :)

great shirts Sally. I especially like the black Disney ones and the newer white, I think I could get my son into one of those but the daughter don't know. may have to bribe.:rotfl: Have you already booked your cruise etc for your trip? Just wondering as we are kind of considering a trip in 2011 to include a cruise?which cruise do you plan to go on etc?

yeah the dollar is killing. :thumbsup2 Today they said it will head up to 80c because the US is likely to print more money which devalues their currency. I hope that is true. i haven't bought the disney hoppers yet so will hang out to save a few more bucks once it goes over 80c!!

I saw you and your family in Main Street in these t-shirts, it was late in the day and your family were walking towards the castle and we were walking towards the outside world. I think we would of been even with Carnation Cafe(?) at the time. However, you guys were on the other side of the road. I commented to DH at the time. It was in the Oct hols last year, I remember that we had some days overlap.

I just had a thought on the T-shirts, I'm going to ask DH if he would wear matching embroidered polos. My MIL has a fancy machine for doing that. I could design and digitise myself, then she could sew it. Mmmm, thinking about it now. I'm sure DD would wear a mathcing T-shirt to me, but DH isn't too keen on it. Then again, I do the bag packing :lmao:

:rotfl: I see 5 Disney t-shirts in his suitcase and nothing else!

What a nice wife you are. My DH has to pack his own bag! Generally the boys do too, but since we are going carry on only this time I'll be supervising.

I was just curious as to clothing sizes in the US. Do they use the same sizing system we use here? So, I am a size 12 here, will I be the same there? Thanks ;)

keptwoman, how come you are going carry-on only? I thought they just did that domestically, I was not aware they had that option on international flights :confused3

xxx

No the sizes are different there. I'm a 7-8 here and a 2-3 there.

We are going carry on only because at first it appeared that we would be charged domestically for check in bags which would have been over US$250. It turns out that is not the case according to the United Airlines guy I talked to. But if he is wrong it would be very very expensive for us. But with 5 of us and lots of messy connections we figure that it means we will have less chance of lost bags and more chance of fitting in the rental car LOL. I've done a test pack and it all fitted remarkably well.
You can have a suitcase of 45" total dimensions as carry on which is a decent sized suitcase. We may end up checking a bag through from NY to LAX for the picnic bits and pieces but we have the flexibility to walk right off the plane and out the door which is appealing.

We also had the issue with baggage costs on the US domestic flights.

We originally were going to fly from Las Vegas to canada on Air Alaska they have just introduced a $25/bag charge on any flights booked after the 1st May:scared1: We are a family of 4 plus we will have ski/snowboard gear as well so that equated to close to $200 for 1 flight. luckily we got a flight with Air Canada, although more expensive it allows for 2 bags each so it works out cheaper in the long run.

We have also booked some alaskan air flights with FF points, luckily as they have been ticketed by Qantas we are allowed the 2 bags each.

Quite a few of the American airlines have recently introduced luggage charges, so worthwhile looking into different airlines.

Yes we are flying United to NY for the BARGAIN price of $5080 for 5 of us!! So we are forced to use United for the internals. They definitely charge for checked bags internally but the question is whether or not we will get charged as we are in an international through ticket. The United guy said no but the website when I was booking said maybe. For that reason we don't want to take the chance.

I would get confirmation with United head office in Aussie. They should be able to confirm it rather than having to guess. I would say if your ticket is booked all the way to NY then you should be ok, but once again they should be able to confirm. If you booked with a travel agent i would get them to 100% confirm. that is a great price. :thumbsup2

Yes it's a brilliant price isn't it!! I worked in travel many many many years ago and even then it wouldn't have been that cheap.

I have called UA in Australia who say it's all OK, no checked baggage charges....therefore it's likely to be OK but it doesn't really matter as the convenience of going carry on is enough to make us do it happily. And all you need is some plonker on check in who doesn't understand the fare rules and decides to charge.
No travel agent, I'm my travel agent LOL

thats great if you can do it with carry on. There is no way can do it with all the shopping!:)

Yes I suspect that the flights home may include either an extra suitcase or a couple of bags checked because the zipped extenders have had to be used LOL!

I was thinking about you and your cabin baggage only as I was doing internet browsing and came across a youtube vid for packinglite.com it shows you how to pack a weeks worth of clothes into one cabin bag.

And bonus if you can actually bring checked baggage without fees - I say maybe get some of those cheap sports bags etc and fill them up for the trip home with your goodies :)

I used to be a travelagent too in my pre kids days and I don't think I ever saw an agent fare for as cheap as some of the airfares are now. Our whole trip is costing what the original cost of airfares was - So the fact our dollar is weaker means nothing as we will actually have more free cash to spend (with our mortgage repayments lower and cost of petrol etc etc).

OK there aren't that many Flea's who were travel agents in NZ. You didn't work for Focus did you?

Thanks for the vid. I'll check it out.

Sandra.

Nope I worked for Go Holidays inhouse agency - corporate leisure mostly.Doing our corporate clients personal and family travel ;)

What is it with all the ex travel agents,? I used to be one too. Here goes I admit it, I was a Flight Centre chick. I have to admit I threw in the towel due to the place being sooo busy, I wasn't giving the service that I expect or would want in return. Holidays are important to the people going on them, often it is their big trip of a lifetime and I think they deserve a bit more than I was able to offer. :confused3
Left to open my own business in something totally different and loving it!

Goodness we are everywhere! I worked in leisure for a few years then moved to corporate which I enjoyed much more.
Interesting about your experience Czardas... I didn't find it that bad but certainly having the weight of someones dreams on your shoulders is big. It was much nicer to go to corporate where I got to do more interesting itineraries for clients who trusted me to get the job done and didn't ring to check on me every 5 minutes. More stress and last minute stuff but more rewarding in general.

I was also a travel consultant, but we're talking over 20 years ago when I still lived in Canada. Once I married and had a child it was no longer as appealing so I moved on and started my own business, Now the only "travel consulting" I do is with my own family.:)
