Aulani

At Aulani, unlike the traditional resorts, it isn't a resort fee, you are not "paying" for access to the amenities of the resort. They are simply the Transient Occupancy Taxes collected by the state of Hawaii (the hotel side pays it too, so does every hotel pretty much). So this actually wouldn't be something that the Biden Administration would have been doing away with since it isn't a fee but a tax.

This is no different than VGC that pays it as a part of the dues or VDH which will pay it at check-in just like Aulani.

That’s strange. I checked out yesterday, and paid a transit oriented tax which they charged 2 times daily for some reason, and it was $9.78 and $2.24 per day or something like that. Sorry I would check my folio, but it got wet and we tossed it.

The transient accommodation tax does get charged per day in two parts: one for Honululu County and one for Hawaii, I believe. For us in a 1BR Island Garden it was $6.31 + $21.55 = $27.86 which corresponds to the chart.

You might have been in a hotel room?

But, the first time they gave me my folio, I was actually charged for a 1BR Island Garden AND a 1BR Poolside Garden view, which I caught and they refunded. So it is worth checking that.

Ahhhh that makes sense. We were supposed to be in the DVC hotel room, but when I checked in they said they were booked and unavailable, and put us in the DVC studio. It was so strange. This was my first dvc stay since purchasing last year so I didn’t know how to respond. We really wanted the 2 queen beds, and called later and was told it was still unavailable. I think I will call dvc member services tomorrow to discuss this… I mean I would have no complaints if we received an upgraded room, but we really didn’t.

It’s tough bc there are only 8 hotel rooms under DVC and maybe one was out for maintenance or something. The studios are meant to be an upgrade in that they have kitchenettes, but I can see how that might not be valuable when you wanted the two queens.
