We are headed to Aulani for Thanksgiving week and were wondering if anyone knew of a shuttle company that we could use to get us from the airport to the resort with a possible grocery stop as well. We have 4 adults and 2 kids.

Also, anyone who has been, any tips?

I would recommend getting a car and at the airport as it is cheaper. It may cost about $80 to get to Aulani from the airport. So I think it's just easier to have a car. If you are DVC there is no charge to self park at the resort. Plus you will have a car if you want to venture out. Aulani didn't have as many places to eat, especially cheap ones so a car might be good if you want to eat somewhere else. There are a bunch of places about 5 minutes away.

As for groceries. There is a small market across the street, but stores such as Costco, Target are about 4 miles away.

Thanks for the tips. We were originally going to rent a car for th entire week but then realized that we wouldn't need it every day. We are thinking that we would get groceries and try to cook some meals and maybe rent a car for 2 or 3 days and venture off property for those days.

We rented a full size car from Hertz (or at least what they consider full size, it was a Nissan Altima) for 8 days for less than $200. You can't do that in Orlando. But, if you're not DVC (I assume you are) the parking at Aulani is $35/day. Ouch. Hertz, and many other companies, actually lower their prices as the booking date gets closer (for some locations). We booked and cancelled, then re-booked and cancelled again, until the we got the best price just a few days before showing up. Just keep checking the rates after your reserve on-line.

You can rent the car on site at Aulani, but that still leaves you without travel to and from the airport, and it might be cheaper just to rent all week, plus having the car was very helpfull to escape the tractor-beam of tourist price gouging. You need to get at least 4 miles away before you see anything that resembles mainland prices. And even then, it's still more than home. But at Aulani, forget it. 2 resturants, that's it. One costs $43 per person for a buffet, the other is fine dining starting at $50 per plate. They have quick service starting at $12 for a burger, and some other local flavors. Other than that it's a hot pocket at the store, or walk across the street to a little plaza with a market, and a mexican place, both still over-priced.

I just got back from Aulani and agree with the other posters. I never expected to use the car every day, but we did! Even a quick pizza run was just back near Target and Costco. I was able to get a minivan for 8 days for $244 from Alamo via Hotwire. Just a big taxi to/from Aulani would have probably cost us close to $100 each way. Seriously, get the car.

Thanks for advice. It looks like we definitely will be getting a car. My kids really want to get a convertible so it may be a little more. Hopefully my DVC or AAA deiscounts will help.

Also, did I read somewhere that there is another resort nearby? Are there any good restaurants there?

Thanks again!!

There is a Marriot next door offering the same very overpriced food LOL. Car rentals in HI are cheap (comparing to Orlando!!) so I'd just rent too. Plus you might find some awesome shrimp shack you NEED to eat at again and again!

Duke's and Longboards are down at the Marriott Ko Olina. There are a couple of restaurants nextdoor at the JW also. Roy's across the street at the golf course is fantastic and cheaper than either AMA AMA or Makahiki and way better for a nice dinner. There is a Hawaiian BBQ and a Mexican place across the street at the Ko Olina Station tiny shopping plaza too and soon to be a pizza place there.

One Paddle Two Paddle is open for poolside dinner if you haven't gotten your fill of their food during lunchtime, too. But there are only like 6 entrees to choose from. Also you can get sweet potato fries instead of regular fries any time. ;-)

Great car rental prices thru Discount Hawaii Car Rental.
They use major rental companies like Alamo,Thrifty,Dollar ect.
They also have great reviews on Yelp.
