Aulani vs. AKV - Bait and Switch??? - UPDATED with resolution!

In your situation I would absolutely get on the wait list for VGC. It seems like the best option for west coasters. We joined it last week after going back and forth for ages and decided a direct buy at VGC was the best bet. If I were buying at WDW I would absolutely do a resale (and I still may add on at OKW through resale at some point, it looks gorgeous) but I wanted our primary resort to be the one we would go to the most, so VGC it is.

The price savings between VGC direct and VGC through Disney was only about $20 pp, so we thought the slight extra expense made sense for the added perks of buying through Disney.

We spent a couple of days mapping out our tentative vacation plans for the next 10 or so years and determined the following:

1. Although we do go to DL often, we live close so we rarely stay there. And rarely is going to become less and less now that DS is in elementary school. That realization had us rule out VGC as a home resort.

2. We knew we already had a trip planned to Aulani in November and to WDW in December 2012.

3. Over the following 8 years we'd like to go to Aulani every other year and WDW at least 2 more times.

With that in mind, we decided to do a split deed with a minimum purchase at AKV and the bulk at Aulani. We spoke with a new Guide and she said we can do that (with the points at Aulani on hold until the paperwork issue is resolved and the start selling again) and keep the incentives for the total number of points we plan to purchase. I am happy with the resolution and have now started to focus my energy on planning our itinerary for Hawaii in November!

That sounds like a really great resolution and well thought out rationale! Wishing you all the best at your new HOME!!

Glad you thought it all out and have made your decision. Wish you the best and have a great time with all the planning - one of the best parts of DVC :goodvibes

We spoke with a new Guide
Just curious, did you talk to a manager and they assigned you a new guide?, did you request a new guide? I am just wondering how Disney handled the issues you had with the first guide.

Since our original Guide was away and I was really insistent upon speaking with someone, QA sent me to a sales manager. She really wanted me to wait the couple days to get everything straightened out with the original Guide but I said I wanted questions answered now. I think, however, that even though it was the new Guide that talked everything out with me and went over my options got the impression it was going to be the original Guide that got the sale.
