We will be going to Aulani in September and I've read and kept most of the posts but, HELP I can't find the one about the Spa. I think someone said to splurge and go for the Kilikili. Am I correct? Also did I read that the food at 'AMA'AMA got better?
Thanks.

I didn't hit the spa since we have one of the world's best here on Maui at the Grand Wailea, but both times I went to Ama Ama for lunch, the food was excellent. Pics in the mini-TR in my sig. The kid's macaroni and cheese was so amazing we ordered it again on the second trip even though we didn't have my DS5 with us.

Just back :) The spa is amazing! Hands down, best spa I've ever been to. We did couples signature lomi lomi and spent over an hour in Kula Wai. We loved it so much we went back again. I did meet a woman who did the kilikili and said it was well worth the splurge.

It is one of the top 10 spas in the world for a reason! It's just lovely! I got the lomi lomi and though the cost was rather high, but I could see why it earns its title. Just make sure to arrive at the spa an hour early to soak up the outdoor pools and showers. You can do it after, but after the massage you just want to sit/lay in what they dub, "The Relaxation Room", that they supply you with water, teas, cupcakes and fruits.

Do you need to book spa time in advance or can you o when you arrive and better know your schedule?

Let me echo the rave reviews about the spa! Plan to spend at least a couple of hours there. The Lomilomi massage was fabulous! Here's a tip - if you are getting the Lomilomi and tell them you're a DVC member, you will get a free upgrade to the Signature Lomilomi.

Good to know! :thumbsup2

Do you suggest we make reservations a head of time from home or is reserving it once we get there ok.

TIA

I just had the Kilikili treatment last Thursday. It was heavenly! Would I do it every time I went to Aulani? Probably not because of the cost - I think it was around $270+ with the obligatory 20% service charge added it - but it was nice for a one time splurge. Do get there early to take advantage of the outside garden area. I stayed about an hour after the treatment to enjoy the relaxation room and I also sat outside a little bit longer. I figured if I was paying that much money that I was going to make an afternoon of it. :lmao:

I won't go into a big description of the treament because there is a GREAT review of this treatment and the spa overall on the mousesavers website:

I would make the appointment ahead of time if you can. I had actually made the appointment about a month before for last Wednesday. I realized when I got there 8 days before that one of the excursions I wanted to do was only offered on Wednesday, and I had a bit of an issue trying to find an alternate time that suited me. (I didn't want the 8 a.m. slot or the 7 p.m. slots!) The spa seemed pretty busy.

If you get the Kilikili, make sure you avoid getting a sunburn. The 2nd and 3rd day I was there I got a sunburn on my back despite using my SPF 50 sunscreen. Thankfully the burn had turned into tan by the time I had the Kilikili treatment. If I had done it several days before, though, it would have been pretty painful.

I will also echo the rave reviews about the spa! We also just got back from Aulani.

DH & I did the couples massage the second day we were there and totally started the vacation out right. It is total relaxation and well worth the price. Keep in mind they tell you to arrive 1 hour prior but I recommend to take advantage of the outdoor facilities and spend as long as you want. In reality if you want to arrive at 8:00 am for a 2:00 appointment and leave at 8:00 pm you can and just relax in the outdoor garden area as your own private pool area. It will make the cost worth it. We arrived at 1:00 for 3:00 appointment then left at 7:00. I personally felt this was more bang for my bucks then getting a cabana.

I do recommend making reservations as soon as you can. As izzy said make sure you do not get a sunburn before getting your massage.

We also toured the spa the night before which helped get to know the layout before arriving for our massage. They did tours everyday at 8:00 am and 7:00 pm. Also keep in mind the DVC upgrade discount. It helps only on upgrades and does not give any discount for signatures treatments.

Enjoy! Still in :cloud9:

Which couples massage did you pick?

We did the "Ohi'a Lehua" (exfoliation followed by a lomilomi massage) this was not eligible for a DVC upgrade discount but the "Honohoni" would be, just make sure you ask about the DVC upgrade when you schedule it and make sure you have your DVC card with at the spa.

The exfoliation was a wonderful treat. Skin was soooooo soft afterwards and believe me after spending 10 days swimming, laying out by the pool, and running around in the sun it would be have been wonderful to do again before I left. They did give us a small container to take back to the room which I am saving for the right time at home. :cloud9:

I can't wait to go back. I will be interested in how you like the month of September. We are considering September 2013 for our next trip. ENJOY!

Let me know if you have any other questions.
