I was wondering if my odds of getting a 2 bedroom island view or standard view would be better in September, 2012 or January, 2013. Would my odds be better for a 1 bedroom ocean view? Also, if I am lucky and get a reservation for September at the 7th month mark and then find out there is availability in January once that 7th month mark opens, can I switch the reservation without penalty?

Well, there are more ocean views than there are island and standard views, so yes, your odds would be better. I'd take whatever you can get at the 7 month mark then wait list what you really want if that's the 2 bedroom standard. It might open up.

If your use year starts Feb through Sept, the same points would be used for both travel dates. So if you have Sept and Jan is available in June at 7 months, you can make the change. Be sure to do it more than 30 days prior to the Sept arrival, or your points would go into holding and not work for arrival more than 60 days from booking date.
