Great presentation overall. DVC didn't skimp on the event. Great promo rates. Anyone else attended? What's your thought.

I saw an eBay auction recently where an unwitting soul had purchased a timeshare from a very fine company (not DVC) at "great promo rates." The minimum bid was $85,000 and the "Buy It Now" price was $95,000.

There was an almost identical auction item -- same company, same resort, a few more points actually - with a minimum bid of ONE DOLLAR.

Both auctions expired without a single opening bid.

"Cavaet emptor." Which is Latin for "Don't buy a timeshare because of a slick presentation or 'special deal.' " Timeshares can be great, but look at ALL options.

I'm not sure what you're referring to. This post is about the DVC new Aulani resort as presented in Contemporary resort today.
Purchase decision is a personal matter and could be discussed in another thread.

We attended last thursday and it was great they differently didn't skimp on anything the kids had fun and enjoyed Mickey and Minnie too.:cool1:

The "great promo rates" comment begs the question, "...compared to what?"

Plus, from info on other threads, it appears that all the "deals" are the same. I just hate to see people suckered in by slick sales pitches instead of doing their own independent research on such an expensive luxury purchase.

As JimMIA points out, Aulani is currently selling at $114/point. However, there are incentives beginning with purchases of 50 points or more. Specific details are posted on the dvcnews.com website (see http://www.dvcnews.com/index.php/hawaii--ko-olina-resorts-175/1292-aulani-pricing-dues-taxes).

Dvcnews.com also has information about the Guaranteed Week Option that Disney is offering at Aulani. I believe that there are incentives for purchases of the GW option as well.

The Aulani incentives noted at dvcnews.com are, for want of a better word, standard incentives available to anyone wanting to buy Aulani direct from Disney. However, it is not uncommon for Disney to offer slightly better incentives for groups that attend sales presentations while aboard Disney Cruise Line ships, at DisneyWorld, or at Disneyland.

I'm not comparing it to anything just saying there are promo rates available. Your concern about personal finances can be discuss elsewhere. I'm interested on what people think about the offers during these meetings.

So, Ed, what are the specifics for the offers presented to those who attended the meetings?

No offense, but when we start threads here, we don't own the thread. Anyone can post anything they want as long as they don't violate the DIS posting guidelines. The initiator of a thread has no right to dictate what others think is important. And if you post anything here on the DIS, there is a great chance that someone will post another point of view. That's what discussion boards are all about -- discussion.

There is a much more complete discussion of the Aulani offers over on the Mousecellaneous board, although they are also fairly vague. If someone wants the real info, they'd probably be better off calling their guide and asking.

Here are some of the details, posted on the other thread on the Mousecellaneous board:

Aulani Incentives
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Went this morning:

$114 per point

160 points $8 off
200 points $10 off
320 points $12 off

Ending today? August 2009 use year points thrown in with the maintenance fees paid by Disney.

Sorry for the thread derailment. Here's what was discussed

Aulani Points
114 PP dues 4.31/pt
100 PP 8 off
125 PP 10 off
250 PP. 12 off
Dues payed for 2012

Please verify the above info with your giuides.

And here's what Tim posted over on DVC News (wdrl's link above)"

Base price: $114 per point
Incentives

25-49 points: No discount
50-99 points: $6 discont
100-124 points: $8 discount
125-249 points: $10 discount
250+ points: $12 discount

As you can see, there is a difference between these two sources. I don't know poohstx, but Tim is usually very accurate.

I personally would peg Aulani as 'most likely to have a resale price collapse over the next couple of years' (a la the other off-site resorts).

Getting back to your original question, Ed, I'd say that if you want to buy Aulani right now, this is the best price I've seen and DVC is the only company selling.

If you want to wait a couple of years, resale will be better. All you have to do is click on the TTS resale listings above and look at AKV and BLT to see that.

The caution I would give Aulani buyers is the same one I would give VB or HHI buyers -- buy because you are going to vacation there every year or every other year and think you'll need the 11-month booking advantage. I would not recommend purchasing any off-site DVC interest except for the home resort advantage at that particular resort.

If a person is just looking to get into DVC, there are a lot better options whether you buy direct from DVC or buy resale.

I have a friend who will be vacationing in the next 21 days and would possibly like to do a tour and sit through DVC presentation!:goodvibes

"SPREAD THE GOOD NEWS" IS MY PHILOSOPHY! REFER A FRIEND! SPREAD THE GREAT WORD!

Anyway, what will my friend receive for doing a DVC presentation of Aulani Ko Alina at Contemporary??????? Immediate Fast Passes for entire family as I received 2 years ago? I received 5 immediate fast passes for my family who attended the presentation of AKV Kidani!:banana:We wound up purchasing and I'm quite happy we did! Very pleased with the products so far!:cool1::cool1::cool1:

So, what does a prospective DVC member receive who attends the presentation and tour? Fast Passes? Ice Cream like at SSR 2 years ago? Someone mentioned on these boards, about 3 years ago, DVC used to give gift cards out? Any gift cards given out???:thumbsup2

Thanks so much for any responses!LOVING MY DVC!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
CANNOT WAIT FOR SEPTEMBER 2013 FOR OUR 10 NIGHT AULANI TRIP!
30 YEAR ANNIVERSARY! SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE, ESPECIALLY IN THESE TIMES!:love:

Yes, there is a "difference" between these two sources, but it doesn't mean that either source is in error. As I stated in my PP #8, Dvcnews.com has posted what I call the 'standard' Aulani incentives that are available to everyone. However, people that attend one of Disney's special presentations at DisneyWorld, Disneyland, the DCL, Doorway to Dreams, or even Tokyo Disneyland may receive additional discounts or special offers. These discounts and special offers might only be available to attendees and not to the general public.

One useful purpose of the disboards is for people to post the different offers that they encounter at different venues. Someone might decide its worth their time and effort to attend one of these special presentations because the incentives are better than the standard incentives.

The difference sounds a lot like new member and current member prices. I talked with my guide yesterday and really in passing asked about Aulani prices. What is listed above sounds like what she told me as add on prices but I didn't write it down so couldn't confirm 100%.
