We are flying from Boston and I am SHOCKED at the prices of airfare! We are thinking about possible doing a nonstop flight from here to LAX and staying in LA for a day or two and then flying on to Hawaii. Any tips, tricks, info, advice, etc would be much appreciated. TIA

We had the same issue last year. What we did was to apply for two different airline credit cards (Delta and United) which offered a lot of free miles after first usage. We then used those miles to get our tickets each way (we flew to HI on United and home on Delta).
