Admittedly I have paid little attention to the Aulani threads as I foresaw no chance of getting there. But! Our maternity leave plans have changed (we were headed back to the UK) because I would rather go somewhere warm. So Hawaii is the tentative plan.

It will be me, newborn, DH, 4yo, 2yo, and likely my Mom and Dad.

For those in the know about Aulani, some questions:

Will February be difficult to book? We can do 7 months out easily.

We will likely do 2 studios or a 2 bedroom. View matters the most. Don't want to go all that way and not see the ocean.

We will likely do 3-4 islands over a 3-4 week period. How long would *you* plan on being at Aulani?

Do you have any island hopping/Hawaiian vacation planning resources you'd recommend?

Thank you!

I haven't really looked into February patterns but I doubt you'd have difficulty with an OV category in either studio or 2 bedrooms. Although I'm already planning our 2015 trip with the same amount of people that you're taking and I'd much prefer the two bedroom!!! ... Now that I've tasted what it's like to have the washing machine, full kitchen, and extra space with the kids running around I don't think I can go back to a studio!

And I think 1 week per island is a good amount of time. With kids I find it difficult transporting all their gear (car seats, strollers) on the inter island flights so I think 1 week per island (whether you do 3 or 4 islands total) would work well for you in terms of transporting their stuff and still having a feel for what each island has to offer. For your week in Oahu, I personally would just stay at Aulani...it's so accommodating for your kids and then just drive to the other areas when you want to explore (again bc I'm too lazy to transport my kids' stuff around). You're also much closer to North Shore from the Ko'Olina area which is nice.

I also liked the Maui Revealed, Kauai Revealed, and Big Island Revealed guidebooks as a starting point when we first visited each island.

If you get a two-bedroom lock off you will get a studio and a one bedroom. In the one bedroom you will have a bedroom with a king and full bath and then you would have a full kitchen/washer and dryer and some pull outs in the living area.

We get a regular two-bedroom. For extra real double beds and extra bathrooms.

But, either would be better than 2 studios, especially with little ones.

You also get the murphy bed in a lockoff 2BR at Aulani. You do not get the Murphy bed in a dedicated.
