Hey, just wondering current prices and how to go about renting a vehicle?

Should i book online now to try and get a deal, or wait until at the airport to rent.

I hear of people getting a car for like $200 a week, but i do not see those prices online.

I would definitely book ahead of time. Most car rental companies let you cancel until the day of with no fee. I haven't used them myself, but someone else on the boards recommended www.aloharents.com and when I checked earlier today, their prices were much better than others I have seen. If you are a Costco member (I'm not), definitely check through them.

I haven't found a price of $200 but I AM down to $237 for 6 days for a midsize at Dollar in early June. That same car was about $290 a few months ago. I check every few weeks or so. The thought seems to be to wait for the last minute deals to get the best price but it is probably best to lock something up now and cancel if something better comes up later.

Definitely check out Costco travel. If you want to wait until right before you could try Priceline or Hotwire

I am checking all the time for our trip this August and have made a couple of reservations (that I can cancel later if I find better deals). I think it's still too far out yet tho to get a good rate from Costco for our dates. Their online deals are currently running from March thru June. I think once we reach June/July I will find better deals for August. Meanwhile, the aloharents.com and discounthawaii.com sites are both running the same rate (about $225-230) for a "mid-size" and around $275ish for a "full size" for our dates. I don't want to do a Priceline bid just yet because I don't really want to have to pay for it quite yet. I WILL check them out tho in 2 or 3 months. I've read that the Priceline bids often come through once you're close enough. Check often. :thumbsup2

I will be going June 28-July 7, renting a car for 9 days.
Right now have Alamo reservation for $335 total;
booked Dollar thru Aloharents 2 days ago for $239 total for 9 days (compact car).

The trip is just me and 2 teens, so a compact should be fine (even if we need to put a bag or 2 in back seat for travel to/from airport).

I just signed up on aloharents.com. They found me a car from Thrifty Car Rental for $196 (total) for the week iam there.

Discount Hawaii Car Rental always gives me the best quote. You actually get your car through a major car rental agency.

We did ours through the rental agencies website and spent $230 for a SUV for a week last year. I believe it was National.

Make sure you check all sizes of car, as you might find some surprises.
