There's a thread here called Aulani Villas and Views which has a map showing where each view type is located in the resort. I just posted my view from our 1BR OV there but will also post it here for you. Its really nice to wake up to this every morning.
Room size is a matter of personal preference. We are a party of 4 with 2 adults. Mom and Dad enjoy the privacy that comes with the 1BR.
The tax varies by room size. There is a chart on dvcmember.com that has all the info.
We used the car a ton. Trips to the North Shore, parasailing, downtown Honolulu, Rainbow Drive in, Leonards bakery and others would be impossible without the car. And if you're staying on points you get free parking.
A day trip to another island sounds nice but the time spent in airports would be a concern. I would plan on a couple days at least to make the airport time worth it.
your picture looks exactly like the view from our room. Are the balconies on this building straight or angled? If I read the info in the "view" thread correctly, the dedicated 2 bedroom villas with this view would be
XX02 and XX08, is that correct?

All of the balconies in the Waianae Building are angled, except for the Grand Villas which are on the endcap of the building facing the ocean.
You are correct: The dedicated two-bedroom villas facing the Waikolohe Valley are numbered xx02 and xx08.
It took me awhile to remember how to spell Waianae. Then it dawned on me its the word 'Wine' with the letter 'a' inserted between each letter. By the way, its pronounced why-ah-KNEE.

Yes the balconies are angled so you get a large area to see. I noticed that some rooms have the decorative bars blocking the view but our room doesn't. We are in 1404. Awesome view.....we see the entire pool area, the lagoon, the ocean and the island on the left. The view of the island all lit up at night is beautiful too! When I booked I requested a high floor in the Waianae Tower. Another advantage to this building is we don't get afternoon sun to blind us.

Did you feel the angled balcony had less room than the straight balconies would have? This balcony decision is driving me crazy. Want to make my room request to MS, but I want to have as much room on the balcony as possible. DH is not a "pool person" and will probably spend lots of time on the balcony while the rest of us are at the pool and beach.
You would want to change the pronunciation to "why-ah-nye'' !![]()

My husband says it has less room because its angled out at the front for maximum view and narrow at the back, but it fits the two patio chairs, the tables and still has room for two more chairs. I feel its bigger than some balconies in other resorts. I took a picture her but I don't know how to post it
Here is a photo of a non-angled balcony: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=48897587&postcount=623
Personally, I think the non-angled balconies are large enough for 4 people. If, however, if you have a two-bedroom villa filled to the max and you want everyone on the same balcony at the same time, then the non-angled balcony would probably work better for you.
Thanks so much for the photo. I guess my problem is I want the balcony in your picture, but the view of the pool, valley and ocean (without looking at the Marriott).
