Aulani at 7m for Easter week

We are planning our first trip to Aulani this time next year. We will check in to Aulani Monday April 18 -Sat. April 23. (Part of a split stay elsewhere)

We don’t own there. I worry a little about it being April break and Easter week that I won’t have anything left at 7m. We have enough points between banking, borrowing and current year to stay the 5 nights in a 1 bedroom ocean view room.
Sometimes I think I should look for a transfer or rent points but that will leave me with 2020 points on my contract that will be tough to use.

Should I just take my chances at 7 months so I don’t have to deal with renting points at Aulani and then renting my points out? Waitlist and stalk if unavailable?
I am also thinking maybe book a standard view 1 bedroom as a back up cash through Disney and cancelling if I get a dvc reservation?

(Yes, I worry a lot, LOL. I had a rough health year last year Aulani is my bucket list vacation I said I’d take once on the other side of it. )

I reserved 7 mos out for Labor Day weekend this year in September and had no problem. Best of luck. Hope you are on the mend.

Pre-covid, standard view and hotel rooms were usually full before 7-months out for Easter time, but you could usually find ocean view and at least one of pool or island garden view open, although risk otherwise rose the later the start date of the reservation. For example, wanting to start the Monday right after Easter, like you do, could create a real risk for at least the pool or island garden views disappearing by those making 7-month reservations with Fri, Sat, or Easter Sun start dates.

Post-covid is an unknown, including because Aulani went from being closed to then having severe travel restrictions, and it is not known what restrictions will still exist come Sep 2021, when the 7-month window opens. If they loosen up further, you could possibly see excess demand from those needing to use up banked points.
