Aulani and VGC Unavailable?

So just playing around, I'm wondering why I can't check availability for AUL & VGC?
Any ideas why they might be blacked out?

are you trying to modify an existing reservation?

I've had that happen before, some kind of east coast-west coast thing where it won't let you use points on the opposite coast.

Ahh, that makes sense. Yes it was a WDW res. Funny it'll allow VB or Hilton Head... but i guess they are East Coast too. Weird.

I believe they are on different “systems” when it comes to modification.

If I try to modify my VGC reservation, it will only give VDH as an option. Not even Aulani.

Correct West Coast and East Coast resorts are different systems. So you can't modify WDW/VB/HH to a VDH/VGC/AUL and vice versa. I'm not sure if VGC/VDH can be modified to AUL and vice versa, I've never tried that. But the former statement is 100% accurate and why you see them grayed out.

Never tried, I just booked and cancelled when I couldn't modify. I had enough points to float.

This really needs to be fixed.

It’s been like this for way too long and quite frankly not upholding their duties. I can see little glitches not being worth to fix, but this is huge and leaving too many members thinking they can’t book those.

Not to be a disney IT apologist or anything but I wonder whether it's a glitch at all or whether it's b/c the reservation system itself is different, or b/c they don't want people accidentally modifying a reservation to the other side of the country.

Those are great points. If either or both are the case, they really should at least put a notation there that the DVC member needs to call. It gives the impression those resorts are somehow blocked out.

The resorts are not blocked though only modifying to them is.

Sure there may be a one off chance that someone tries to switch from the Atlantic Ocean and VB to the Pacific Ocean with AUL but that is very rare.

Geographically close resorts can be modified to like area resorts.

East coast to east coast
West Coast to West coast
Aulani can only modify room type, dates and room occupants at Aulani.

But Aulani? That does seem odd. And yes, MS will allow you to change your trip to those resorts.

I have just dropped them before since I couldn't modify them online.

AUL & WDW, VB & HHI have 12 digit confirmation numbers where VDH & VGC only have 8 digits and I wonder if that has something to do with it as well.

of note this is the same for non DVC resorts at DL as well, 8 didgit confirmation codes.
