Has anyone had or is going to have a DFTW (any) in August? I was thinking of having a VR in August but now I'm nervous about the weather and crowds etc. I guess my question is, if you did have an August wedding how was the weather? Did it effect the day in any way? If you are already planning an August wedding do you have any concerns?

It's hot in August. Think about limiting your time outside to short periods. Crowds drop off dramatically for the third and fourth weeks in August when Florida kids go back to school. Resort rates will be lower then too.

I am sort of being forced into having my wedding on labor day weekend. not getting into that again..but I also had a freak out about it too.

1 - peak hurricane season - with the exception of my dessert party, the wedding is indoors (WP) and so is the reception (ADH), if there is a crazy hurricane like Sandy where all highways were shut down in NJ I have been told by other brides DFTW will work with you to reschedule (hopefully that is true) I am also going to purchase some sort of wedding insurance for that.

2- heat - once again, DP is the only time thing that would be effected and its 8pm, so probably a little cooler at that time. Heat at the parks is a different thing, but then again you can always get some ice cream or go see a show or something to cool down. My DF HATES the heat but apparently he thinks it wont be a problem for him when I tell him how hot it will be.

3- crowds - i have been to disney during christmas so nothing can compare to those crowds in my opinion. I have not been to Disney in the summer, so maybe its comparable and I guess I would rather be on line in cooler weather with a ton of people than warmer weather. but if you plan your trip out with fastpasses etc. you should be fine.

Oh I'm in Jersey too and Sandy was a beast! We were without power for almost 9 days and then that freak snowstorm took us down for one more day! We were lucky though because so many people we know lost a LOT. It was terrible.

Come to think of it, weather really can be a problem no matter when you go. We planned a trip in February and it was almost cancelled because they shut down the airport! A blizzard pushed through and we BARELY made it out to WDW! We DROVE (in the snowstorm!!) into another state to hop a plane! It was crazy but we were SO desperate to get there for our Disney fix!

I like the sound of lesser crowds at the end of August! Also if it can be a little more affordable that time of year I think I'll go for it! I think weather can really ruin things no matter the time of year so it's best to go ahead with my original plan, I guess. Thanks for your response!

I'm in NJ and my wedding was a few days after Sandy...storm hit Monday and we left for Florida on Thursday. Luckily our flight scheduled for Thursday morning was one if the first outbound flights to make it out of NJ. My parents were driving and had to leave a few days earlier and got out of NJ before the storm hit. All of our guests made it down but they let us know they would be flexible with our guest list changing past the normal deadline given the circumstances. My planner was worried we weren't going to make it down though! If our Thursday flight had gotten cancelled we were going to try to drive but the no gas thing definitely complicated that. Everyone was very grateful we got married in Disney since they had no power at home!

DH and I are renewing our vows at Disney this August- the Friday of Labor Day weekend. We were at DIsney the same exact time last year so I know what to expect. We do run the chance of bumping into a hurricane or tropical storm. Last year we arrived about 2 days after Isaac passed through. My main concern with that is getting down there. Even though my ceremony is to be on the beach at the Poly, if it gets moved indoors, I can deal. Luckily DH's job is pretty flexible, so if it looks like there's a storm, we're just going to head down early.

As for the crowds and the heat, the crowds last year on Labor Day weekend were awesome. Our longest line the whole weekend was the 30 minutes we had to wait to check our bags for the return flight. Every ride (except for the toy story one at MGM) was 20 min wait or less. We're not worried about the heat because we like it hot. It wasn't that bad last year at all.

We were married on August 22 last year at the Wedding Gazebo at the Yacht Club. Our planner rang at 9am to confirm a 30% chance of rain and that we had the go ahead for outside.

Our ceremony was 12noon and it was slightly cloudy. By 1pm it was glorious sunshine, then the clouds rolled in. We were at photo booth at Boardwalk when the wind picked up and we legged it inside just as the heavens opened. It lasted about 15 minutes then we were back outside for more photos. That was the only rain all day and we got some fantastic cloud shots.

Hi Pinkgirl,
How was the heat/humidity for your ceremony? I know in the summertime it can be 80 degrees starting at 9am. Did they have water stations set up for the guests, and did they utilize them?

This labor day weekend?

I am planning on next labor day weekend (if I get the date I want- 8.31.14). I had actually been following a lot of your plans. I am excited to see all your pics from AAR after your wedding! AAR is gorgeous! The parents are not happy that it would end so late so it is my backup after ADH.
