I have been to WDW in August before but cannot remember what it was like when I went. The best time I ever had was when I went the last few weeks of September. Nary a line anywhere! I went at the beginning of November last year and it was jam packed. I have been in March and it was Average. For our honeymoon we went in June and it was a zoo because of Cheerleading competitions. But I KNOW I have been in August before but cannot remember what it was like. Is it jam packed the 3rd week in August usually? I know school starts for many parts of the country then but that doesn't always mean anything.

We'll be going the third week of August and this will be out first trip during this time of year. I'm pretty sure that the southern states start that week so I am hoping that it will be relatively light.

I've also heard that it is relatively warm this time of year. Is this true?? :rotfl2:

Warm is putting it mildly! :rotfl:

Many of the schools in the WDW area go back the first week in August. After about the 15th of August, the crowds really seem to thin out. (Too bad the oppressive weather does not take a hike, too!!! ) The crowds spike a bit during the Labor Day weekend, but not anything like the other summer holidays. If you can handle the weather (and the threat of hurricanes; we missed Charley by 24 hours a few years back), you'll be fine.

Crowd levels do drop some toward the end of August because a lot of people must return home to get their kids ready for the start of school, but don't expect things to be a walk on. It will still be crowded.

We are going the 16-22 of August. I am prepared for the weather but we are in the same boat as far as the crowds go. I am hoping that most kids are back in school.

We used to go in August every year from about 1999-2005. (We were at THe Wilderness Lodge on lock down when Charley came through!) We always waited until about the third week to go as Orlando had already started school (we live in suburbs of Chicago and started about a week later.) The parks were not as jam packed but we still had our fair share of waiting. The other thing to remember is that it is really HOT! We often also experienced an afternoon thunderstorm just about each day.

The best time of the year for us to go is in August. We have gone the last 6 Augusts. Very very hot and humid. We go the 8th - 20th this year. Lines are always long. We got stuck in hurricane Charlie while staying at Saratoga Springs resort. Disney was top notch on planning.
August is fun for us. Usually rains every day for 20 mins. Looking forward to our trip this year...

We went last year Aug 19-26. There were still lines at the big rides, but for the most part I thought it was a great time to go. A lot of the southern schools have started up by then. We are headed there a week earlier this year, and I am hoping for the same!

We went Aug. 3-12 last year and it was fine. I am kind of funny about noticing crowds - we have gone in Jan, Feb, Aug, Oct, and Dec and I can't really tell a difference in crowd levels! I KNOW it must be more crowded in summer than in Feb!:rotfl2: We are always at the park at rope drop, so maybe that's why I don't think it is very crowded.:confused3

This year we're going Aug. 15-24. Resorts are sold out so I'm not sure what to make of that. I guess we'll find out soon enough!

Have been in August before and going again in 5 days. Florida schools start on the 20th this year. Yes, it is hot. Crowds should die down after the 20th. Go to the parks early in the a.m., go back to your resort around lunch time and hang out at the pool, go back out for the night around 5:00pm.

We have gone the last week of August since free dining started and each year seems to be busier than the last. I am curious to see how this year is since they shortened the length of free dining and the Cdn dollar being as good as it is, more Cdn visitors.

I'm going the 27th and everyone else in my family is going to be starting school that day in Texas (parents teach, and brother is a sophomore in high school). :rotfl2:

I have been going the last 2 weeks in August for about 15 + years & it's the best time of the year for crowds & deals. It don't get better.
