August weather

Hi, thanks Debbie some really good tips, I wan hoping just to get away with a very light weight long sleeve top which I use on the plane and from what you`ve said should be fine. We`ve got all our factor 30 and hope to get a brita bottle when we get there, did you get yours from wallmart or somewhere similar?

It would be bonus if we did not see much rain, we are expecting it to be hot, is it still humid in August?


I`ve bought a hat, but am sure it will go home again with the label still on it.

I bought two mister fans from our £1 shop - probably the equivalent to your dollar stores I guess so they'll be packed

The most susceptible of us will be my DS (16) who is very fair skinned and usually returns from holiday the same colour he went - white!
I've got plenty of sun creams and plan to take a break back to the accommodation mid day to collect my DH, who doesn't 'do' mornings

I'm lucky enough to have an excuse to take along the pushchair as my DD is only 4 so I can stick all kinds of essentials underneath it

Reading around, I think I'm going to go for the umbrellas rather than the ponchos as the general opinion seems to be that they get too hot - my DD complains about being too hot in clothing at the best of times.

As I said in my earlier mail I'd somehow got it into my mind that we would be cold when it rains - glad to know I was wrong

We are staying at the Vistana Village, I Drive but the south end nearish to Sea World.

We have been buying new crayons and pens today for the same reason, but I`m hoping the TV might keep her amused or she may even sleep for 8 hours !!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you are very brave driving on the other side of the road, I appreciate you don`t really have much choice, but I don`t think I could do it. (I`m on the insurance just in case).

How are you getting on with your packing and planning, apart from having all the bags together and things like plasters and sun lotion I`m not much further on. This time next week I would like to be fairly organised, but its a week away plenty of time.
I`m definately now spending any more money thought till I get to the airport.

I sent you a PM but I'm not certain how they work.
What I forgot to say was that we stayed down by Sea World last year and the I Ride Trolley buses were great. You could get off just past Wet and Wild and easily walk the rest of the way to Universal Studios. By walking across to Sea World you could get the bus to WDW. Great area to stay in my opinion.
I took the cheap option with the flights (£100 each less than Virgin) so we don't have personal TVs. I'm hoping I don't live to regret it!

The warmest garment I brought along was a long-sleeved jean shirt. You might consider one pair of lightweight pants. A friend of mine got a rash on her legs from the sun reflecting off the pavement and needed to wear some light pants. She had to buy a pair there. Other than that, shorts, shorts, shorts!

I'm glad you've got your mister fans. They will become your best friend. And spray away. It's so sad to see little kids standing in line withering in the heat. You make great friends and generate a lot of laughs cooling everyone off!

And speaking of cooling off, be sure to make a stop at Ice Station Cool in Epcot for the Coke sampling. It's great fun and a great diversion from the heat. And what a hoot to see everyone's faces when they sample the drinks!

Lastly, what I think is the absolutely most important key to Disney, August or any other time of the year, is plan, plan, plan!!
Have a great itinerary before you go and the heat won't be bad because you won't be standing around saying what should we do next. I've seen families arguing over what to do next, standing around in that heat. Yikes!

And another plus to Aug. is that kids are going back to school so the crowds aren't as bad as they would be in June or July. We always go about the third week of Aug. This year it's the 16th thru the 23rd.

We have gone three times in August (and are going back this August in about three weeks) and it will be hot and humid, probably in the high 80s or low to mid 90s. But, it is not that bad if you go out early, take a break in mid-afternoon, then go back to the parks in late afternoon or evening. We have found World Showcase to be very hot in the afternoon as there is a lot of concrete. AK is also hot and very humid in the afternoon (although I love this park). Also, try to get out of the sun whenever you can and stand in the shade. One thing we learned is that you should not queue up and wait an hour to watch an afternoon parade as you will undoubtedly be in the sun (and it will sap the life out of you) .

My plan was to 'hit' Florida as some of the schools went back so I'm glad I got that bit right
We're actually travelling a week earlier than I'd have liked (9th) as it's my DS's 16th birthday on the 25th and he wanted to be back home to celebrate with his friends.
I've found loads of planning tips on the boards - I thought we'd 'cracked it' when we came over last year but there always seems to be something new
Just trying now to decide where to have a character breakfast (DD and I). Do you all think we should make a PS before we travel, or wait until we get there? We did CRT last year which was fun but our favourite character meal was H&V which they don't do any more
