If Anyone Could Tell Me About The Weather In August And What To Expect That Would Be Brilliant! =]

Most of my trips to WDW have been in August.

You can expect it to be hot. Really hot. And humid. Really humid. You can also expect that there will be a thunderstorm at some point during the day, usually between 3 PM and 6 PM.

Depending on what part of August, you can expect it to be pretty crowded, although it seems from my experience that the later in the month, the less crowded.

In spite of this, I love to go in August. While crowded, it was less crowded than when I went in July. Also, everything is open later.

I like to stay on property to be able to take advantage of Extra Magic Hours and to be able to get back to my room quickly for resting up in the heat of the afternoon.

I am from Washington DC, so I am used to hot and humid, so the August weather doesn't bother me. Neither do the PM thunderstoms. It is either a useful time to go back to rest, or it thins out the park I am in.

We were there in August 08 and it was HOT. My daughter was dancing at MK on August 12th (one of the hottest days of the year) and they had a photo shoot before the performance...those poor kids were just about melting...make-up was just about dripping off their faces!

That being said it is manageable. We stayed on site so we were at the parks at opening and took advantage of EMH. We also would return to the hotel for a swim in the afternoon and then back to the parks around dinner time. We made sure we had lots of fluids, hats and sunscreen. My DD7 has epilepsy and this wether lowered her threshold for seizures and she ended up spending most of the day on the 12th in the hotel room sleeping off a seizure!

I am very tolerant of the heat though...my theory is that as long as I have an airconditioned room to sleep in at night I don't care how hot it is...I'd rather have that then the freezing cold I am experiencing now in Toronto!!!

EXTREMELY HOT! Would never go in August again, pools were even hot!

HOT AND VERY HUMID.....HOT & HUMID....Did I mention it would be HOT & HUMID ?

I 2nd the reply on the pools. I was hoping they'd be abit more refreshing, but it was like getting into a warm bath - even the lazy river in the water park was like bath water.

That being said, I want to go back again in late August for the free dining (if offered). This gives us the most savings for our family of 4 and is great timing just before school starts.

Go to the park VERY early in the morning and head back to the resort for after lunch time for 3-4 hours and then back again for the evening and EMH. If you pace youself and take some breaks, I'd rather be there when it's hot as opposed to having to wear jackets and long pants earlier in the year

I've been several times in late August, It was hot but since it's not as crowded the lines moved quickly and we were in AC soon enough. You just have to dress right. I'm planning on going again this August.

I was there for the last week in August and beginning of September. It was very hot and humid. We aren't used to the humidity at all, but we all did fine. We just drank a lot of water and took it easy touring.

In case it hasn't been mentioned already....Hot and humid every day, with a chance of rain in the afternoons. that's FL in the summer months.

Bring a cool tie for around your neck - you can find them in the camping section of walmart. They really do work at helping to keep you cool

I went this past August and it was our first time ever going to Florida in the summer, and I was NERVOUS. We are from New England and jut not used to the extreme heat and humidity. Well, we were VERY pleasantly surprised. Yes it was hot. Yes it was humid. But it was very manageable with careful planning... in the parks early morning (rope drop is best by far), out by noon/one pm, swim/arcade/dinner in the afternoon (even a nap one day), back into the parks in the evening. It definately helped that we stayed on site. It rained two days out of 7 for us, which I realize is very lucky for August weather in Disney, it poured down there the week after we got back. The crowds were heavy (we were used to November crowds) but we used the fast passes and by getting there early each morning we were able to ride everything we wanted to ride.

I prefer going in the fall, but with the kids in school now it is harder to take them out for a full week, so I would absolutely go again in August.

ETA... and when I say that it rained two days... it only rained for a bit in the afternoon, sunny before and sunny after. That's Florida for you!

As everyone has told you, hot & humid. This will only be my 2nd trip in Aug. We plan to take a break after lunch, and go hang out at the resort till the hottest hours are over, 1-3. We're 38 & 43 not old by any means, AND we live in NC, so we're used to the weather...and we KNOW from experience, the heat will exhaust you. So my tip, is to take a break, take a nice cool nap and head back out. The parks are open fairly late in Aug, so you'll get your time in. Good luck!;)

I second this. We are headed back this August on the free dining bounceback from when we were there this past august. Even though the heat is bad it is manageable. It is honestly my favorite time to go....because I know that I will be seeing snow in the next couple of months:laughing:

I live in the south and love the heat so August is no problem at Disney. Makes the water rides all the more fun - just get on them early because they certainly do crowd up. We never leave the parks mid-day to hit the pools, but usually end up at the pool after the parks close and they are still refreshing at 10 or 11 at night.

The only thing I hate about going in the heat is that the restaurants and shops are FREEZING. They really blast on the air conditioning and at first, coming into a cold shop is a relief, but sitting at a TS restaurant for more than an hour is brutal - you can hardly wait to get back outside to the heat. You have to be prepared for that!

Definitely keep in mind that its the start of hurricane season in the middle of the month, which means a lot of rain. Anytime after noon is fair game for a storm or shower. But don't let it ruin your day, grab a small umbrella or pack some cheap ponchos. The worst part is if you get wet and go into the a/c like it was mentioned above, because it is so humid and hot, they really pump that a/c.

It is Florida though and it is August, so no one should be surprised that its going to be Hot and Humid! Disney is great about having shaded and/ or inside ques to wait in, which makes it bearable. Buy a misty mate and have fun! We've gone twice at the end of August/beginning of September...and are going again the last week of August this year!

It's hot and humid (as you might have surmised), but don't forget, if you or someone you're with gets cold easily, bring a light jacket, sweater or sweatshirt for when you go to lunch. The A/C feels great initially, but can freeze you out pretty fast if you're not prepared.
