Please help, We were planning to go to WDW in the begining of May, now we have to cnacel that and go the first week in August. I am so upset I know it is going to be soooo hot and soooo crowded. Please tell me how bad it really is in August. Also I was gonig to get a 6 day pass but am nowt thinking due to crowds I may need to get a park hopper, we have never been to HS and AK so I am afraid 1 day will not be enough for them but 2 would be too much. Any help would be great.

Are you sure you want to know? ;)

Okay, you asked for it. First, go stand in your shower, fully clothed, and make sure the water is on luke warm. Okay, nice and wet now? Good. Next, go get in your car - it really should be sitting out in the hot sun for several hours to get the full effect - and turn the heater on full blast. This works best if you have leather or vinyl seats so you can really get the full effect of your legs sticking to the seats. Now, sit there for a while. Like an hour or two.

Getting hard to breathe? Feel like your legs will be forever stuck to the seats? Feel like your clothes are clinging to you from sweating? Feel like the life is being sucked out of you? Good.

Now invite a couple dozen neighbors to come cram themselves into the car with you for awhile.

That's what August feels like! :lmao:

Seriously, though, get the hoppers. You may want to take mid-day breaks during the hottest part of the day and go to a different park in the evening. Also, August is rainy season here, so bring ponchos and extra shoes and plan on having afternoon thunderstorms. There's plenty to do indoors around the parks when this happens, so don't worry.

So come on down and have a nice trip! :goodvibes

Yes, it is hot and crowded. But if that's when you can go, it certainly is better than staying home! We only go in the summers now due to school. We always get there at rope drop, do as many big rides early and collect as many fastpasses as we can, try to eat lunch early if doing CS or get a TS and take a nice break. In the afternoon we do the lesser attractions and use the fastpasses or go back to the resort for a siesta or swim. Then head back to the park for the night. You need lots of water and sunscreen. Misting fans help. We do not get parkhoppers, we just leave and go back to the same park. We did AK in 1 day but it is our least favorite. We spend 2 days at HS anyway. You can add the PH option any time, so you might as well wait and see if you need it and save $52pp if you don't.

:scared1:

Holy smokes. My August FD trip is already paid. We're from Texas with similar weather. I will make sure we spend LOTS of time outdoors to acclimate.

Well Op, if you're asking for the worst, that's what you'll get. How can you expect to get a good answer if you ask "How bad is it going to be?"

I personally love August. It's not too hot for me, is beautiful most of the time (with a small and short shower once in a while), and the crowds are amazing. Also, coming from Toronto, I really can't complain about August. I can't stand the cold. The hotter, the better

I'm originally from Texas, too! We relocated to Florida to live at the beach and we love it, even with the heat and humidity. I'll take that over cold any time!

We always go in August now too, the crowds are good (before free dining). I figure it is hot in August whether I am home or on vacation, I would rather be in Disney!! Besides, most of Disney attractions are air conditioned, as are all the restaurants, so why not enjoy!!:goodvibes

I've gone in August. . it's hot but, it's also Disney! Plan for breaks in A/C attractions (FotLK, Nemo) and trips back to the resort for a pool break and you will be fine. I would spring for the PH's because the crowds could be slightly larger and you might find yourself wanting to try a different park. You can also not get the hoppers when and simply upgrade your tickets if you decide you need them. There is no penalty in price if you upgrade later.

We will be there starting Aug 6th :thumbsup2 I am a fan of heat, but I know it will be tough walking around the parks all day in the hot, humid weather. We will be drinking lots of water, taking breaks when we need to (including returning to the hotel in the afternoon) and generally taking it as slow as we need to in order to not burn out. It's our kids' first trip and I am sure it will be overwhelming, even when you don't consider the weather, so we are sure to come back in the future and I am not concerned about seeing it all. Like one of the PP said, I would rather be at Disney in August than not at all :cool2:

We have gone in August everytime. It just requires planning your day as previous posters have suggested. Up early, enjoy the parks. Back to you room to sleep or swim and back out to enjoy the evening.

One time we went in June and hated it. We prefer August. Someday, we may try a different time. But that would require the kids to be grown and us to be retired - I'll keep dreaming!:rotfl:

August is hot, but not any worse that here in Alabama. You should not be bothered to much by the heat, just take breaks and drink plenty of water.

You can avoid some of the crowds by taking advantage of the extra magic hours and early entry. Also, find out what rides are FastPass and which ones you want to ride. If you can't get to it during EE, be sure to get a FastPass for it during EE. You are limited by the number of FPs you can get.

I agree - this past winter with the unseasonably cold weather - YUCK!!!!

I am looking forward to August! :goodvibes

We are visiting again this year in August as we did last year. Our schedules are crazy busy and this is the only time we could reach a consensus on.

We are going later in August so the crowds will be somewhat lighter. But I have no illusions about the weather. Still, we will be at WDW! That makes it all worthwhile! :lovestruc

Hey, I would much rather visit in more temperate weather. But I'll just deal.....dress for the temps, keep hydrated, eat lightly, take frequent breaks, and head for a pool when it gets to be too overwhelming. It'll likely be hot and humid here at home too....I'd rather be at WDW where we'll have MUCH more fun! :cool1:
