August trip

Just remember:

1. WATER and lots of it!
2. water mister/fan combo
3. WATER and lots of it!
4. neck coolers - we couldn't live without ours when we went in August
5. WATER and lots of it!

Did I mention, drink lots of water? :rotfl:

Have fun!

this will be the 3rd year ds & i have gone to WDW in august. the past 2 yrs have been for 2wks each.
This year we're only going for 1 week. I'll also be in wdw a wk in april solo and a wk in nov solo (50th bday)

If you do go in August, I would suggest you go as late in the month as possible. We went last August from the 13th to the 18th. I knew it would be hot, but thought it would not be that crowded. Reading the boards, most people said that the crowds would not be so bad, with a lot of the southern states already having the kids start school. Well, it was hot, and really crowded. I don't mind walking in the heat, but standing in line for rides for an hour was not fun. And many times, fast passes were gone at the top rides by 1 or 2 pm, so we didn't have a choice but wait if we wanted to do the rides.
Now, we just returned yesterday from a 4 night stay at Beach Club. We left the kids home, and had a "second honeymoon". It was fantastic!! We literally walked right onto rides with no wait, including Soarin, Tower of Terror, Rockin Roller Coaster and most everything else. The only wait we had was 30 minutes one night at Thunder Mountain Railroad, but I think this was because Splash Mountain was closed, so every came on the only other ride in the area.
I never thought I would take my daughter out of school for a Disney trip, but can't pass up the chance to do this again. We are already planning another visit for next January or February! Our son will be in college, so we don't need to worry about him. You would be surprised at how many people that we talked with down there had taken their kids out of school. They said they just spoke with the teachers and brought some of their work with them to do while on vacation.
I hear that September is a lot less crowded also, and you would still have the warm weather to enjoy the pools. Of course, there is always the chance of a hurricane, but that can happen in August, too.
Good luck and happy planning!!!

Debbie

I've taken the kids out of school a few times in the past for our Disney trips. But they've gotten more strict, and taking them out last October was a bit of a stretch. They refuse to give out homework ahead of time. And seeing as the maximum days you can be absent before going on the AF list (administrative failure) is three, I don't dare chance it again. (we went Colombus day week in October, so they already had Monday off, and half a day that Thursday, so they just made it). This year, my youngest will be in high school, and my second youngest will be in her freshman year of college. (the oldest is in college and has a pretty flexible schedule, and the second oldest works) LOL welcome to my life in a nutshell. Anyway, I'm not sure when my third daughter will be starting college (she's moving there) so I don't dare go the very last week in August because I'm chancing she will have to move into a dorm the last weekend in August. SO, long story, semi-short, it looks like we have to go the third week (17th to the 26th I'm thinking). I had thought about the 10th to the 19th, but I figure the later in the month the better. Fingers crossed for free dining too!!!

And thanks for all the great input everyone! You rock! :thumbsup2

Who cares we'll be in Disney!! Right??

Hopefully the fact that you are going a week later will be a big help. I think my main problem was that in my mind I thought it wasn't going to be crowded. I was prepared for the heat, but thought that it would be relatively empty at the parks. So when I saw how crowded it was, I was really aggravated. I would have been better off expecting the crowds, then I would have been fine. I also didn't mention that we shared a villa with my 2 sisters, which I always thought would be fun. I realized that I like it much better with just my immediate family, where we could do whatever we wanted without worrying about anyone else. Oh well, we learned never to do that again. I think if they were at a different hotel, or even in a different room at Boardwalk we would have been much happier!

Have a great time!!

Just wanted to chime in here!! Yes August is HOT, your hair will frizz itself to death and you will SWEAT all day...other than all that, it's really not that bad!! the crowds are pretty low and there are lots of places to escape the heat.

I was there at the end of last August for my honeymoon...I arrived in Florida with the CUTEST haircut I had JUST gotten the day before...straight and shiney and very chic...by the end of our first evening at Disney I had little Orphan Annie ringlets...My husband kept saying "Hun...you look 12..."  After that day I pulled it back into a ponytail or wore a baseball cap...which didn't help with the looking 12 thing, but at least I wasn't sporting fat frizzy ringlets!!

It's not bad though really...it's just hot and sweaty...

school is way more important then disney. im never talking my DD out! She will only suffer tryying to catch up:thumbsup2 ....we will deal with the August heat:rotfl2:
