When the FTP was announced,, we decided we would go to WDW the last week of August and stay at POR. The decision was made because the deal was too good to pass up, and our last trip was somewhat marred by DS's broken leg and ridiculously heavy and bulky plaster cast. So, one call to DC later, we're going to WDW.
Our original plan was to drive, but then I found reasonably priced flights on the AC website. The only catch was, we would have to stay an extra day
So, on the phone to DC, arrange one night, room only, with DC discount. It's a dirty job, etc.
Finally, the day arrived. Our flight wasn't until 19:55, so we had lots of time for last minute packing, etc. We went to the airport early because we'd heard about delays due to power failures and AC understaffing. About 10 minutes later, we were checked in, through customs and at the gate. Who says there's no such thing as service any more?
We were pleased to note the return of hot meals on Air Canada, the service was great, the seats roomy, and the staff pleasant and efficient. Yourride was prompt at the airport, and we made a quick stop at a 7/11 (what else is open that time of night?) for some BEvERages. We had to laugh. The attendant carded us both (DH is 40).
Checking in was simple, and we were glad to see our room -1848. It was beautiful. Well themed, corner room, from one window you can see the Sassagoula, from the other a well-landscaped courtyard. Well content, we turned on the Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Da channel to hear the song once, and went to bed.
Next - Day 1 - MK and 'Ohana. In which it rains.
