August/September Disneyers...let's get in shape for our trip!!

Kaiti - this is the place to vent. We all use this as a place to go without judgement and to get it all out.

It's good to see everyone staying on track and not letting little detours lead them permanently astray.

I lost .5lbs this week. Less than I hoped for but I'm not going to let myself get upset about that and recognize that any loss/no gain is a step in the right direction.

I do have to vent a little too - DH just keeps losing and it's really easy to see that he's losing weight. He's wearing smaller pants and shirts and it seems like the weight is just melting off him - even with some occasional snacks of ice cream. I'm slowly trudging along and nothing fits differently and I don't really look/feel any different. DH keeps saying he can see it in my face - why not my tummy and butt!?!

I have to work tomorrow so that will keep away the Saturday all alone snack cravings. Hopefully next week will have an ever better loss than this week.

Good job on the losses, Honeymo78 and Tara!:thumbsup2

Today completed day 3 of week 1 of C25K. I got really excited about my pace today. I did 1.48 miles in 25 minutes. That is 16:56 minutes per mile!

I was down only .4 today......but slow and steady wins the race, right:)? Even though my exercise was great this week, I still have a long way to go on my food choices.

Does anyone have suggestions for a quick healthy breakfast you can eat on the go?

You guys are awesome to let me vent about my live-in insanity :goodvibes You have no clue how much that helped me out. The good part of all of it, is now there will be healthier food in the house (or so I hope;)) Either way, I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing.

Cathy, YAAAAYYY!!! You got to 174!!!! How exciting, so proud of you!! It must feel so good to see the number getting smaller :cheer2: And YAAYYY to Tara, ZweetiePie and Honeymo78!!

My number didn't go down as much as last week, but I do know why. I had a crazy week as far as working and seeing new people that will probably turn into new boyfriends (:rolleyes1)....and getting my first Disney tattoo. It's so cool! It's big...and right on my side above my left hip. So it has given me tons of motivation to put my rear in gear so I can show it off. I can't do that with my tummy as big as it is! I'll have to post a picture of it as soon as I get a good one :) But this week, I am back on the wagon tracking everything I eat and working out every day! It helps the Biggest Loser challenge this week is 20 mins of exercising a day. There's something about those points that I just have to earn them! I'm smelling a big loss next week at weigh-in...anyone else??

We are going the last week of August and I am determined to lose enough weight to be feeling better by then. It will take me much longer than that to reach my ultimate goal, but I know that every pound off and every mile walked is going to help me walk the parks in the August heat more comfortably. I'm one week into the Sparkpeople.com program and feeling better and much more energetic already. You are all inspiring and give me confidence that I can do it too. I've joined and failed at Weight Watchers more times than I can count and needed to try a different approach. I'm amazed at the resources at sparkpeople and it's all free! I guess everyone has to find an approach that works for them - I think this will be the one for me.:cheer2:

Wendydarling826... You can do this. I have started and stop countless diets over the year and I can tell you that once you really put you mind to it you can do anything!!! I will never "start" another diet, because I will never have to start over again. I will have days when I make better choices than others but, those bad choice days will be in the minority rather than the majority like in the past.

Today I went to Frankenmuth with the family. For those of you not from Michigan Frankenmuth is a Germany town famous for their fried chicken. I peeled the breading from the chicken, ate cole slaw and cottage cheese and while I enjoyed a meal with my family, I ate a quarter of what I would have normally.

The scale said 172 this morning but I only count official weigh in's at the clinic. So I will hope for the best tomorrow when I get the "real" weight.

Yay for new joiners! Welcome wendydarling! We are happy to have you!

Cathy, I'm from Ontario and I've been to Frankenmuth! We used to go with my grandparents who lived near Windsor! Good job on the food modifications and the weight loss!

Stephanie and Kaiti - way to keep on pluggin' away! Kaiti I can't wait to see a pic of your new tatoo!

ZweetiePie, you were asking about quick breakfasts and I know you probably were hoping for a bar or something that you can literally grab and go but I thought I'd share this anyway. I eat egg whites and oatmeal in the morning and they keep me full for hours! They also really only take a couple of minutes. I turn on the electric kettle with a tiny bit of water in it and it boils in under a minute. I put about 1/4 of dry minute oats in a bowl and sprinkle cinnamon on them and when the water is ready I pour it on and let it sit for a minute. While I'm waiting for that, I cook egg whites from a carton from Costco in the microwave for 1 min. 30 seconds and then sprinkle a bit of pepper on them. So all together the prep takes 2 minutes or so but I guess then it takes a few minutes to eat them. Not really a grab and go, but I highly recommend it! I used to have cereal and milk in the mornings but found my tummy growling an hour later. Egg whites and oatmeal have been the #1 change in my diet that I truly find makes a huge difference in how I feel and what I eat throughout the day.

So I will probably write a lot this week as I'm going to need lots of motivation! I'm still hoping to be in to the new decade (170's) on Friday and say goodbye to the 180's forever. The tiny problem is that weekends have been kicking my butt! This week was a goodbye party for my cousin Friday, my aunt's wedding Saturday and a concert last night. All three were accompanied by more food than I should have had and besides dancing at the wedding - NO exercise! So, I got on the scale this morning and was terrified!!!!! :scared1: I thought I took a step back last weekend but this past one was WORSE! Still, last week I got to 180.8 by Friday morning so I'm still going to keep my 179.? goal for this Friday. It will be a lot of work but I think I can do it! Cross your fingers girls!

I am ashamed of how much I ate this weekend. On Saturday I weighed in.....and I was like "I weighed in so I don't have to worry about it until next Saturday". Big Mistake. I ended up eating 2 huge pieces of pineapple cake. Then, yesterday, we had a family get together and I had 2 ribs, coleslaw, baked beans, corn on the cob, chicken, homemade mocha ice cream, and homemade lemon cake. I ate way too much:guilty:. Today, I was ready to eat healthy again. I ate special k with 2% milk and some strawberries and bananas. For a snack I had 3 T peanut butter and an apple. My mom ended up coming over and wanted to order out ocharleys. I picked a mushroom blue cheese sirloin (one of the lower calorie options on the 8 under $8 menu. It came with broccolli. I added asparagus and a caesar side salad. I ate it all (used only half the caesar dressing). Then I realized they gave us rolls:scared1:. I was not prepared to fight this temptation and I consumed 3 before I knew what I was doing. I am very discouraged about my eating today.

Also, my sunday school class is throwing a girls night out tonight and there is going to be spaghetti, garlic bread, brownies, ice cream and other stuff to eat. I really want to go, but I don't want to mess up any worse.

Feeling defeated :sad1::guilty::sad2:

ZweetiePie!!!!! I know the feeling of weighing in then being totally lax. I've done that every Friday, then overeat Friday night, Saturday and Sunday and start to be good again on Mondays. I think I might start having to post my weight on Fridays and Mondays to stay accountable on the weekends!

It's ok to feel disappointed with yourself for a bit but then you have to say, "What's done is done" and move forward! We can't live in guilt. All we can do is start every day saying, "I can do this" and then do it. Don't worry about yesterday because you can't go back. All you can control is RIGHT NOW!

It sounds like we both also have the same problem with social eating. I can do great if everyone leaves me alone. But friends or family come over, or there's a get-together and all hell breaks loose in the food department! :rotfl2: It's one of the things I'm still working on, big time. We are conditioned our whole lives to associate socializing with eating. It's a hard habit to break. I've been told to not totally deprive myself but eat tiny portions. (Hard to do!) I heard once that someone looks for the thinnest person in the group and copies what they eat! (Subtly of course!)

Today is a new day! Stay healthy!:thumbsup2

-Tara

Thanks for the encouragement Tara! The rest of yesterday didn't go so well but I am starting fresh today. My plan is Special K with strawberries and banana chopped in it for breakfast, 2 kiwis for snack, grilled chicken salad for lunch, apple and pb for snack, 1 leftover rib and a small leftover corn on the cob with no butter.

I am supposed to go to the store today so I should be able to get some better groceries.

Today is day 1 of week 2 of C25K.:yay: I am excited about it.

Hi! Me again. ZweetiePie, feel free to tell me to stop whenever you get tired of my advice but I want to suggest one more thing...Eat a bit more today! If you add up all the calories for the food you listed, it's likely not enough, especially if you factor in that you're doing the C25K thing. Being too calorie restrictive does a bunch of things:
- puts your body in starvation mode and lowers your metabolism
- keeps you feeling hungry so you're more likely to break your diet and binge
- isn't maintainable over the long term (we should be changing our lifestyles forever, not crash dieting!)
My suggestions (just ignore all of this if you want but in case your interested...)
- Have protein in the morning. Special K and fruit are low calorie but high in sugar and won't keep you full very long. Egg whites and oatmeal will stick with you all day for the same amount of calories.
- Fruit for am snack is great but add 5-10 almonds so you get carbs, good fat and protein at all your meals and snacks.

The rest of the day seems ok because you have all three macronutrients incorporated into what you are eating. But you maybe could add a healthy complex carbohydrate serving on the days you jog. This is the biology teacher in me coming out! Again I'm sorry if I sound like a know it all! This is all just stuff I've learned the hard way so I thought I'd share. Everyone should of course do whatever works best for them.

Sorry for posting so much. I'm supposed to be marking exams (school goes late in Ontario! I'm not done till the 30th!!) So I'm procrastinating without eating junk (which is one of my usual procrastination techniques.) Off to mark now!

-Tara

One more thing! (Still procrastinating!) This website is for everyone! It just summarizes the importance of eating fat, carbs and protein at every meal and snack (which is what I suggested to ZweetiePie above) and not eating high glycemic foods so we can maintain the correct levels of insulin and other hormones in our bodies.

http://www.healthiertalk.com/weight-loss-final-frontier-0214

I do this (well, Monday to Thursday I do it really well) and it really does make eating healthy easier! I just have to get over that social eating on the weekends. Ugh!

Hope it's okay to join so close to August, but I'm overweight, and have always been. My weight has been a constant struggle for me! I recently joined WW and I hoping this will help to give me the motivation I need. Ultimately I'd like to lose close to 100 pounds..I know I will never be skinny, but I want to be HEALTHY!! My trip is Aug 13-23 to celebrate my graduation from college  and by then I would like to be down 25 pounds!! I'm hoping this thread will give me support I need!! So...I'm glad to be here!

Don't laugh at me that I'm on here again! I did just go grade some exams and needed a break and saw we have another new joiner! YAY! Welcome spartankid! :cheer2: We're here for you! Post often with your challenges and successes!

Welcome Spartankid34!:hippie:

Thanks Tara for the advice! I know I need to get more protein at breakfast but most of the time cereal(and some freeze dried strawberries/bananas added) is all I can manage. When I was at Walmart today I picked up some Clif Bars. I am gonna try eating those for breakfast. They all have at least 10 g protein, about 5-6 g fat, and I am not sure on the sugar.....but I know that have whole grains in them. Anywho, I was thinking they might work good to just have on hand in the diaper bag too in case I forget to eat breakfast.

So far today I have had:

special k with 2% milk, strawberries, bananas
clif bar (peanut toffee crunch....wanted to try one out to see if they were worth eating at breakfast)
peach
banana
1 T pb

I am totally not hungry right now. I am running after my hubby gets off work (about 6 or so). If I get hungry before then I will have some cheese and an apple.

Still planning on the ribs tonight but will beef it up per your recommendations, Tara. I will have 2 ribs, 1 small ear of corn, a salad with spray ranch dressing, and perhaps 2 pieces of whole wheat bread made into garlic toast. How does that sound?

Great quick protein for breakfast is 1% cottage cheese. 15 grams of protein per serving. I eat it at least 3 times a week and am not hungry until lunch time. Make sure you look at the sodium content though. Weight Watcher brand has a lot of sodium so I avoid that brand.

Cathy, I love cottage cheese too! Great protein!

After procrastinating so much on Tuesday (sorry about all the posts ladies), I was crazy busy finishing up the school year Wednesday and yesterday. Now I'm on summer holidays! This should be good news (and it is, mostly) but the problem is that, as you all know, I've been really good with eating and exercise Monday-Friday but horrible on the weekends. Well, here comes a two month weekend! :scared1:

I did (finally) get in the 170s this week! I was 179.6 lbs today. A week off schedule but after two very indulgent weekends I'm happy. This week I was so good that I lost what I gained on the weekend plus 1.2 lbs. I'm now just about half way to my goal of losing 20 lbs by Disney! Only just over 10 more to go!

Thanks for all of your support ladies! How's everyone doing?

I hope you all enjoy your long 4th of July weekend! It's Canada Day today so we're going to my sister's to swim and watch fireworks later. There will be lots of food but I NEVER want to see the 180's again so I'll be good!

-Tara

i am losing my motivation :confused3 I have been at 174.5 for over a week and I miss not having to think about everything I eat. I know I should be happy with a 20lbs lost but I feel stuck and depressed. We leave for WDW in 48 more days and I so badly wanted to be at least 160 by then. I would so like to be able to post a pic of myself on Facebook and not be horrified.:scared1: Work has been rough this week :surfweb:and I hate mean people.

Thanks needed to vent:grouphug:

Hi guys! I'm joining in. My name is Stephanie, as you can see from my username. ;) And I'm 14 years young!

Since last April (of 2010) I have lost over 40 lbs.
As of late April (of 2011) I was 135 lbs (5'6), my goal from January when I got on the weight loss wagon again. :lmao:

Of course, I took that as an excuse to stop weighing myself and let myself have a few more treats..so I have been scared to weigh myself since. The morning we leave I'm going to weigh myself though, and I'm really really hoping to be some where in the 120's.

BUT last Thursday I started an exercise-based plan to lose as much weight as possible before our August 3rd Disney trip. We have a Tony Little Rock n Roll Stepper and my goal is to do 40 hours on there. I'm not counting calories anymore, just exercise like I said before.

So far, I have completed 9 hours and 7 minutes (my goal before bed tonight is 10 hours!) Right now I'm being bad and taking a break to be on here. :lmao: But I'll go back as soon as I finish this post.

I know I'm younger than most in this thread but I just want to tell all of you to STAY MOTIVATED. :flower3: Anything is possible if you stick to it.

Stephanie.... welcome, :thumbsup2 I have a DD who will be 16 in a few days. She too has decided that she would rather workout than watch what she eats. She is on the treadmill 1 hour per day. Eats whatever she wants and has loss 10lbs in the past 4 months. She is heathly and muscular at 5'2 and 120lbs... Like most older people I get nervous when ever I hear a young girl concerned about her weight, even though at one time I was a younger girl concerned about my weight.

We are all hear to support you and your recommitment to working out. :yay:

Happy to report a loss this week despite slipping into some bad lunch habits. We got a new scale which was .5-1lb heavier than the old scale. I weighed the same this week on the new scale as on the old one so my loss is somewhere in that .5-1lb range. I had stopped eating my salad and small sandwich (brought from home) the last 2 weeks and bought deli sandwiches and salads from the chain stores. Definitely not as healthy for my body or my wallet. Starting Tuesday I'll be back to healthier lunches and hopefully that will help with bigger losses.

Tonight we are going out to my favorite steakhouse, Shula's, for my birthday and I'll have a big ole prime rib and I'm not going to worry about enjoying it. DH also bought me a cake and I can't wait to have some. But once the birthday fun is over, it's back on track.
