We were planning a trip in August - but now considering Oct. What is the crowd level like in October, and negatives/positives about going in October - are there lots of things closed for refurb, weather , etc? Thanks much all!

Hi Paula! I can only comment on our experiences in Oct., and we have gone two times during the last week of Oct. and first part of Nov. The weather has always been perfect, not too hot and not too cold. We needed a sweater in the evenings, but otherwise we had 80's during the day. It all depends on the year though, and mother nature. As for ride refurbs., unfortunately we always miss IASW due to the holiday overlay being put in, but we've been fortunate that that's the only ride we have missed and cared about. We love seeing DL decorated with pumpkins everywhere, and because we leave during the first week of Nov., we also see some Christmas decorations. It amazes us each time, when we go back on Nov. 1st, how the pumpkins have almost disappeared overnight. Mickey's elves must be busy! The Mickey's Halloween Party is wonderful as well! I imagine that the crowds in Oct. have to be smaller than in Aug., but Oct. is quickly becoming more popular. Hope this helps with your decision!

There is a big "Halloween at Disneyland" superthread that would give you an idea of what is different about going during that time. It's a big thread , but Sherry has a good Table of Contents in the first post for an overview.

Crowds and weather should probably be better in October. Not sure about ride closures August vs. October -- probably depends on which are most important. Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain should have their holiday overlays, which would be different (positive or negative depending on how much you love the originals).

Oh my gosh ... October hands down!!!!

  1. Way less people
  2. Way less traffic
  3. Not sweaty, muggy, dying hot
  4. Halloween decorations are SO COOL

It's a no brainer to me!
