August heat

My family and I were at Disney at the end of Augest last year for 10 days. YES it is hot. YES it is humid. Yes it rains EVERY SINGLE DAY! Was it horrible? No. I was completely prepared for the worst possible experience but it was actually very nice.

My advice is get to the parks as early as you possibly can. We used am emhs as much as was possible. Leave by noon AT THE LATEST! Go back to your resort, swim, REST (seriously - the heat totally takes it out of you!) and go back to parks around 5 or 6.

Because we had been before and were there for so many days we had the luxury of going slow and taking it easy. For a first timer going in August I would definitely say TAKE YOUR TIME!!! DO NOT under any circumstances rush around trying to do everything! Drink lots of WATER (like 2x as much as would at home!) rest as much as possible and slow down! Really it wasn't that bad!

Yes you will be hot, yes you will be drippy and sweaty for most of the day but you will be at Disney! Throw your hair in a ponytail, wear a hat and sunglasses, drink lots and take it slow! You will have a GREAT time! :goodvibes

As a Pennsylvanian that has visited in mid-August several times, I can tell you that it will be hot and humid. That said, its hot and humid in Pennsylvania that time of year as well. It is a little more intense, but I don't find it unmanageable. Interestingly, and it might just be me, I find the late morning at WDW to be the warmest. Although the temp goes up in the afternoon, I think some of the humidity must burn off. What I do find difficult on occasion is the transition of going in and out of air conditioning constantly.

The daytime highs in PA sometimes exceeds the daytime high in Orlando that time of year. However, you don't get the break at night or early morning in WDW...when you get out and about in the morning, its already quite warm.

If you're reasonably tolerant of summer in PA, you'll do fine in Orlando.

I agree with this. Very hot and humid but manageable if you plan for it. I think what we mainly had to get used to was that it was 85 degrees when we woke up in the mornings  But the opportunity for ample air conditioning breaks with a lot of attractions/queues being indoors helps a lot. Another important thing to note is to also be prepared for the afternoon rainstorms that time of year. They are brief and usually pop up between 2pm and 4pm, but the downpours can be heavy, so we made sure to plan our days around those as well. Can't be too bad cause we are planning to go back in August again :)

Rope drop, misting fans, lunch ADRs and rest when it is hottest and most crowded. That is what works for us. We will be back and love WDW.:goodvibes

Have you ever been to PA in august? just wondering because it is super hot and humid. Some people think the north isnt that hot and humid but it really is. If you up it by 50% that could easily make it 150 degrees.

we are going in August and I think I am prepared- maybe I'm not:confused3

just asking - not trying to be snide:)

I've been thinking the same thing. I live in CT we had just about 5 days straight of 90 deg weather and no rain right before we go to WDW. We go to FL and it rained and was 88. It's bearable!! We've also gone to FL in May and had 6 days of 95 deg weather so you never know.

Plus in late August~being able to walk on Expedition Everest, the Safari, Space Mountain, etc. it was totally worth the heat!!!:goodvibes

DOn't let anyone scare you. It is bearable. It gets just as hot up here during the day. THe big difference is that our nights cool down more so first thing in the morning is not as hot here as it is there.
We have been going in August since 2009. I did not really notice any difference in temps on any of our trips. 2010 was rainier, but we don't mind it.

We are going in August again this year and I will be 32 weeks pregnant. We just will take things even slower.

Take a mid day break at the pool and head out again at dinner time
Drink A LOT
Use the misting fans you wear around your neck
Wear light, moisture wicking clothes.
Wear shoes that can go from wet to dry. I love my Tevas. I never worry about the rain.

We are going to be in Disney August 15 and 16, how horrible is the heat in August?
We go to Disney at the end of August, every year. Yes, it is HOT, for us - it just requires a little adjusting, that's all. Once we adapt to the heat and humidity, we freeze in some of the restaurants and buildings from the AC! :rotfl:

We tour the parks early in the morning, we're at the pool or chillin' somewhere in the afternoon, and back at the parks in the evening , ideally. Sometimes, we never leave the park, there's always a place in the parks to cool off and take a break. Let me just say that, August nights are awesome! Have fun! :cloud9:

I agree. The later in August you go, the better. The crowds drop off significantly towards the end of the month and the lower crowds definitely make dealing with the heat worth it. The same can be said for September too.

I am from PA too..It is HOT HOT HOT and HUMID HUMID HUMID.It will take some getting used to but you should be fine.
