My family and I were at Disney at the end of Augest last year for 10 days. YES it is hot. YES it is humid. Yes it rains EVERY SINGLE DAY! Was it horrible? No. I was completely prepared for the worst possible experience but it was actually very nice.
My advice is get to the parks as early as you possibly can. We used am emhs as much as was possible. Leave by noon AT THE LATEST! Go back to your resort, swim, REST (seriously - the heat totally takes it out of you!) and go back to parks around 5 or 6.
Because we had been before and were there for so many days we had the luxury of going slow and taking it easy. For a first timer going in August I would definitely say TAKE YOUR TIME!!! DO NOT under any circumstances rush around trying to do everything! Drink lots of WATER (like 2x as much as would at home!) rest as much as possible and slow down! Really it wasn't that bad!
Yes you will be hot, yes you will be drippy and sweaty for most of the day but you will be at Disney! Throw your hair in a ponytail, wear a hat and sunglasses, drink lots and take it slow! You will have a GREAT time!

But the opportunity for ample air conditioning breaks with a lot of attractions/queues being indoors helps a lot. Another important thing to note is to also be prepared for the afternoon rainstorms that time of year. They are brief and usually pop up between 2pm and 4pm, but the downpours can be heavy, so we made sure to plan our days around those as well. Can't be too bad cause we are planning to go back in August again
