August heat

Thanks for all the advice. I was planning to begin early and will def. make a lunch reservation in the a/c.

ha ha ha..yep..every single day but one I just pulled mine back in a ponytail..the ONE day i didn't I got poured on anyway.. no point in doing hair at all!

One of the things that excited me most about my November trip was I could have some pictures with my hair down and actually look like I have make up on. Every Sept picture looks the same, sweaty, hot hair pulled back and make up melted off even early in the morning, thats why I am glad most of the photopass photogs take a picture from waaay back. :goodvibes

I see you are from PA, think of the hottest day last summer up that by 50% and add in insane humidity. Now imagine being drenched in sweat from head to toe at 10am. That's August at WDW. Managable yes but hard on our friends from up North I hear. Use smart touring strategies like arrive early, take mid day breaks, plan long attractions inside the A/C during the worst parts of the day or long lunches at TS places, stay hydrated, and you will manage.

Have you ever been to PA in august? just wondering because it is super hot and humid. Some people think the north isnt that hot and humid but it really is. If you up it by 50% that could easily make it 150 degrees.

we are going in August and I think I am prepared- maybe I'm not:confused3

just asking - not trying to be snide:)

I hear you! People sometimes think that only one area or other of the country can lay claim to those thick, stick summer days where it feels like you're wearing a wet wool blanket! But, lemme tell you, Minnesota summers are HOT. Doncha know, as they say here, "Oh, it's not so much the HEAT, it's the humidity!" (now imagine that with a "Fargo" accent, and you got it right!)

Exactly! Thats why i think we will be OK going in August because we are used to it. Its not like we have nice cool summers and then bam go to Florida and roast.

Wow these responses are scaring me!! We are going the first week of August. However, we live in Texas so we are used to hot as hell summers. What I don't like the thought of is constant raining. That would disappoint me more than the heat. I am hoping/praying it doesn't rain every day. This is our first trip in 9 years. In 2003 I can't remember the exact dates but it was in July and all I remember is being rained out almost every day. I hope that doesn't happen this time. I now know to try to wait it out and it should pass but others have said sometimes it just doesn't pass. And it could downpour for hours before letting up. To me that would ruin the trip more than the heat... I guess all we can do is hope for the best!

I deff agree with this .Being from outside of Philly It gets hot.So its not like I am going from nice cool weather to burning hot! lol Thats why the hubby and I were arguing about going in August, which we still may do. I told him its better than being here at least we are somewhere other than home and work!!! :thumbsup2 He works nights for our grocery store and he is not really every around around people and daytime lol! Now we will have a three month old if we go but, I look at it this way, It kinda gives me a break from running around and lets me take care of the baby while he gets good quality time with our 5 almost 6 year old DS.

As far as the heat. We went the last week in august last year and yes its hot but there are enough stores and rides that are indoor that you can take advantage of and we always got up early or tried to since it is vacation of course, and then went back to the hotel around 12 and came back at like 4 or 5. Now this was my first trip with type 1 diabetes so it made it a little more complicated and we had to take a lot more breaks but If you just plan on water and duck into shops occasionally you should be fine.

I know how you feel. We have gone for the past three years and it has been in September. We had maybe one day of rain for our trip in 2010 and that was it. Now last year when we went in August we had maybe one day where it rained for like 15 mins. It was funny we walked into the big store in the middle of Epcot because we knew it was going to start finally after it started to crowded in the store we decided to run to the car. Wouldnt you know by the time we got to the car it stopped :lmao::lmao: O well! But I have never seen it never let up. But sadly that is just something we cant control! :confused3

Odds are you'll be fine. Don't worry about it. Usually the rains are fleeting, if at all.

YAY!! We are actually near west chester chadds ford! Hopefully we will see when we go haven't really made my decision. DS starts K this year and would have to go some time the first two weeks in August! Or pull him out of school in September to go! But we shall see! Maybe we will see you there! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

It's not that unbearable, I mean I live here and survive! But yeah, being from up North you're gonna think it's miserable! The quick afternoon storms cool it down a bit and there's so many places with AC around the park just duck in and cool off. You'll still have a great time!:thumbsup2

We live west of King of Prussia - our kids are older - one is in HS so our days of missing school are gone. need to keep the grades up for college.;)

we went once in September and LOVED it - during a hurricane (jeanne) but we survived then the weather was beautiful and almost no crowds at all. rode Buzz lightyear ride 5 times in a row (boys were addicted)

have fun!

For the poster worried about August rains - I don't know what it was like in Auugst 2011, but in 2009 and 2010, the rain was minimal. We came prepared - with our plastic ponchos - and I think we may have used them once in 2009 and in 2010, I remember standing in the Mexican Pavillion for about 1/2 hour while DD played Kim Possible and we waited for the rain to let up. There may have also been a late afternoon or early evening shower or something, but nothing that really sticks in my mind as being a hinderance or messing up any plans.

I have been to Disney 3 times and we are going back this August. Yes, it's hot and humid, but, there is air condition everywhere you go, whether to eat, shop or rest. I don't have that at home:) I plan my days in the parks for morning, come back to swim and then rest and head back to park or DTD..ahh, I can't wait:)

I've never done WDW in August but I lived in Florida for five years. It is HOT and it is HUMID. Sometimes the humidity is so thick, you feel like you need to use your hands to push the thick air out of the way--almost like swimming through air!

THe good thing about WDW is how many indoor attractions there are and how much air conditioning there is to be had.

But summer nights? Fantastic. Once the sun goes down, you can't beat a summer night in Florida. Enjoy the parks that are open later, because that's when it's really great.

I went August 2011, and it was brutally hot, but you get used to it. Just keep drinking water, don't rush around at lunch time, take time to sit when you need to, wear a hat.
As a girl, it did a number on my hair, and I never made it through the day keeping it down, it was always in a braid or ponytail by the end of the day.
The rain was pretty minimal, it maybe rained for 15-20 minutes each day, and It just so happened when we went to WWOHP that it rained at 7 and it just kept POURING the whole night, but that was random.
Heat didn't ruin our fun in any way though

We fo the end of September and it is super hot. How does that compare to august heat compare to sept? About the same? I can't imagine it could be any hotter

After my first August trip, I said I would never go again in that month :lmao: But since I am a teacher, I am limited in when I can go :rolleyes1 Just follow all the great advice here and you will have a magical trip :tinker:
