August crowds?

How are the crowds in mid-August...say around the 15th-31st? I want to plan a trip in about 2 years (it will help combat the post-trip depression I'm having), but I don't think I'll be able to pull my son out of high school. We love early-mid May. How does August compare? I know that some southern schools start at the beginning of August.

Thanks (way in advance!)

Beth

We are thinking of doing Disney the last two weeks of
August (2004) also for our Summer vacation. We were also
wondering how the crowds and weather are?

Here in Texas we all go back to school around mid-August. I would think that the last week or two of August are probably not as crowded as the first two.

We have a trip planned for the last two weeks of August 2004. It is my understanding that the crowds are a bit less than in July and early August, but are still much larger than in May. So don't expect late August to be slow at all.
Schools in MA don't start until August 30 to early Sept.

I went August in 1999 (2nd Week) and it was hot and the crowds were tolerable. We went in May 2002 (Also Second Week) and it was a bit more crowded I think because the hours were shorter at all the parks. I love the August hours because you can stay out so late.

We went August 15th last yr, it was very crowded and very hot.
It poured almost dailey, not just 20 min showers. Some days it rained for hours. But this is Disney and we still had a great time
and we are going back again this August.

We've also been in August twice and it's been very busy and rainy. However, it has never spoilt the fun!!

Also half of Great Britain is there as it is school holidays!!!

What a bummer! I was hoping the last week in August would be tolerable crowds (I alreayd know about the heat and rain though). It will be my sister's first expereince. :( Oh well, at least it's an 'extra' AP trip for me and my 'real' trip is the end of October!!!:teeth:

We were there from 8/15-23 last year. It was incredibly rainy/stormy. But, I understand that was really not the norm. Daily showers, yes. But not the severity we had last year. The crowds weren't too bad. I think that the FTP boosted the numbers up. It was hot/steamy but with AC everywhere, we didn't find it to be too bad.

We are going back this year from the 13-21. The parks hours are a little shorter. I think if you go anytime from 8/21 to just before Labor Day week-end you will find the crowds to be down. I know that they started thinning out on the day before we left last year. We have no problem going at this time frame. No more extended leaves from school for my dd at this point. A day or two but that's it.

My advice as to doing as much as you can? Make sure you get done what you really want to do before lunch. That way, if it does pour, you can just amble around and not feel like you are 'missing out'. From about 3 pm on it can turn nasty with thunder storms/lightning/torrential rains. Get as much done before that as you can. Plan a sit down meal for dinner. Worked for us.

We have gone in August the past 2 times. The first time we went the very last week and the crowds weren't bad at all. Last year we went the 3rd week in August and it was a lot more crowded and it rained everyday!!! This year we are going the last week again. I just hope that with Labor Day being late that it won't be to crowded. I know in New York school doesn't start until the day after Labor Day. Hope this helps some what. Have fun!!!:sunny:

Our last trip was in August and it was our best trip ever.

We went the last week of August (before that, we'd only gone during holidays) and we were amazed at the low crowds. Except for Labor Day weekend, we rarely waited more than 20 minutes for any attraction. It made for a more enjoyable time and I don't think I'll ever go during holidays again. The difference in enjoyment, attractions able to see, etc. was amazing.

We went the third week of August two years ago and had a great time. There was no EE, no enights, no fireworks at MK and no people!! Well, some people---but the basic touring strategies arrive at the parks early and use fastpass were all we really needed to manage the parks. Epcot was virtually deserted the entire day and we only noticed people late in the afternoon after MK closed at 6pm. I understand last year there was a considerable amount of rain --- that along with fairytale package probably led to major attractions being packed when there was a break in the weather.

We are heading back August17-24, bridging the 3rd & 4th week. If the crowds are bad in the beginning -- I am completely confident they will clear after the 21st. I'd worry more about the weather than the crowds. :D

we have gone the last 3 - 4 summers, and 1 time in june. (we also went 2 times in Oct. and 1 in Jan). out of all the HOT HOT SUMMERS last year was HOT, RAINY AND STORMY just about EVERY DAY , with terrible rain, light.awful storms . also i swore i would NEVER go backwhen they have another FTP. it was MOBBED>>>>>>>>>>> the other summer trips were hot and a little shower here or there, but you just never know ...... i still think we had a great time cause i would rather bethere in the heat than at home. plus its nice, cause now we take a break-go back for a swim, maybe have lunch at another hotel, just enjoy the day then go to the parks at night. we have a great time , walk around downtown, grab a bite to eat , listen to the outside music. so you will have a GREAT time, but relax, enjoy and of course drink alot of water....
