Hello everybody. Took the plunge today and booked a room for Port Orleans Riverside for August 2-12 2007 for 119 bucks a night. Is that a good deal? Wasn't my first choice. I was gunning for Pop Century at 69 bucks a night but waited too long. All rooms full up.

Nervous and excited at the same time about returning to Disney after a four year absence.

All kinds of questions I have.

Should I spend my entire vacation at Disney or spend a few days at Universal?

Should I purchase a Disney Dining Plan? Is it worth it?

Any thoughts or tips about Port Orleans Riverside?

I know I know. I am rambling but the butterflies or butterfuries in my stomach are driving me crazy.

I love POR....love the AB rooms...
If you do decide to add universal, and you plan to go for more than 1 day, you should get the on line 7 day-2 park deal which is the best price, even if you dont use all 7 days. what I'm doing is taking the first two days of my vacation and booked at the hard rock hotel, because than you automatically get the "front of the line pass" which otherwise is almost more than the tickets to buy seperately. There are so many great things at universal and I haven't been there since my youngest son was 3 (now 14)we are all psyched.:goodvibes

as far as dining, which I purchaced. People have said that if you like to eat good food but have always avoided the $$$ restaurants because of cost, it's a nice opportunity to get to experience that. (Especially if you have 6' teenage boys like I do with big appitites) I'm not sure if it's worth it if you have little ones....

another thing Im doing is taking the boat from POR to downtown disney for disney quest.....

forgot to add....Hey, I'll be there the same time as you....!!! congrats on taking the plunge, if your anything like me you will change it and tweak it a million times...lol

We've been to Disney several times over the years, but only visited Universal twice, so this year we are going to Disney for 3 days and Universal for 3 days. We are staying at POR starting Aug 5th, then heading over to the Royal Pacific @ Universal to end our trip. I can't wait, this will be our first stay on-site at Universal and you can't beat the front of the line access!:thumbsup2

This is the 2nd year that I purchased the Disney Dining Plan. We tried it for the first time last year and boy was I glad I did. It was nice not trying to budget for how much my family was going to spend on food. We tried restaurants that we probably would've never tried before. We loved it.

You will love POR. We stayed there (Magnolia section?) in '02 and loved it. The pool is great, the food court had lots of selections, and the rooms werevery comfortable for a family of four. It's just a short walk to the French Quarter and another lovely pool/food court. For a few dollars more you will really be getting a great resort. Have fun...

$119 a night is a pretty good deal - cheapest I've seen for moderate, I think.

POR is a beautiful resort. POP is a lot of fun and would have been a good choice, too, but you can't beat the relaxing atmosphere of POR. As a prior poster mentioned, there's a boat that runs to Downtown Disney which is a nice change from taking the bus or driving. POR also offers horse-drawn carriage rides around the resort. (You have to make a reservations). The entertainer/piano player in the bar, Bob Jackson, is a hoot. I think he's there Wed - Sat.

We tried the DDP for the first time on our last visit. We liked not having to worry about budgeting and paying for meals, but felt that it was just too much food for us sometimes. If you got a room discount, however, you may not be able to get the DDP added, as I think it can only be done as part of the "Magic Your Way" package. You might want to call WDW reservations and find out whether it's an option for you. Whether you get the DDP or not, you might want to make a few advanced reservations now for some of the more popular restaurants.

I hope you have a great time and enjoy POR as much as my family has.

We'll be at POR at the same time! This'll be our third time at the resort, we really love it. We prefer the Mansions to the Alligator Bayou rooms.

Hi! I am booked at the POR for Sept 2-8 and booked under a post card pin and was able to get it for $104 which is including tax. I call back after I saw a code on this site and was told it was the same discount. Maybe you can use a code and save a little more. It is our first trip to POR and I hope we like it. We stayed last time a WL, which we loved. ( can not stay there with a family of five with code.) I hope we are not disappointed after staying at a deluxe. Hope this helps. Chris:dance3:

I will be there July 31 - August 5. It is my first time there. Hope to see you there. You made a great deal.

We've loved POR since it opened as Dixie Landings back in 1991. We love AB the most. We have stayed there several times since it has opened and have stayed in the Mansions and AB. The resort is just so peaceful. Our son loves old man island the pool is nice and the slide is fun. There are also quiet pools throughout the resort. There is also a fishing spot that is catch and release. My son and brother enjoy that. There is also a playground area. A sit down restaraunt Boatwrights as well as the food court.

We will be there for a quick weekend trip the end of July.

Hope you enjoy your stay.
