August 9, 2011 (8/9/2011) Taking the Wonder to see the AMERICAN CHILD

Hello!

Please add us to the first page list of travelers. My husband, daughter (12 at time of sailing) and I will all be on this cruise too. We are traveling with my mom, sister (Dlandfan) and her family. It's our second Disney cruise (we went to Mexico when Disney was on the west coast a couple of years ago) and second trip to Alaska (we went on Princess previously). We loved both the Disney Cruise and Alaska, so we can't wait to combine the two!

DustBunny (Corey) :yay:

Welcome DustBunny :cheer2:

Got our air travel booked!! The trip will be here fast. Looking at our day trips and FE gifts now.

Final payment is coming up quick! :yay:

Thought I would just get us all in the mood!!!

We'll be in the TEENS next week!!!!!!!!!

Still need to book a hotel in Seattle and book Amtrak. Aack....so much to do. Also, need to figure out which hotel ressie to keep in Vancouver. Then there's final pay't due in about 3 weeks.

OK Folks, it's spring... we need to work up some energy and enthusiasm! This is a very quiet thread! Just a few weeks 'til final payment (ugh!) and then it's all down hill after that. Soon we'll be able to book excursions, Palo, etc.

What are people thinking about for excursions? Are you planning your FE gifts? Time to start packing??? :)

Does anyone have a trip before this trip? We don't, so I am putting all my excitement on August!

Karen

Agreed! No other plans to worry about so our focus is on this trip. :cool1::banana:

Flights, check; hotel in Vancouver, check; shore excursions, overwhelming. Help!! Are people going with the Disney offerings (we are first timers so I am a bit worried about what will be left for us to pick from) or going with other options? :confused3

And what is everyone packing? I'm not too worried about the weather, hey it's still snowing here in MA, but it seems like you have to pack for all options and I am not sure my luggage has the space. :rotfl2:

Hi Everyone

Just wanted give you all an FYI...All Entertainment Books are on sale for $17.00 with free shipping. I just ordered the books for Seattle and Vancouver. Unfortunately they do not have a book for Alaska :( The books seem to have a lot of discounts for attractions and resturaunts as well as rental car discounts and hotel discounts. The website for the offer is www.entertainment.com/getabook I hope this helps with everyone's planning!

Has anyone planned any excursions outside of the Disney ship? We are traveling with my 4 year old and I am trying to figure out what she would like to do. Has anyone been on the WhitePass Train ride to the Yukon? We are also thinking of doing the Salmon Bake with the Disney Characters? Any thoughts?

PHL to SEA flight and YVR to PHL flight has been booked for some time now.
Still need to find a Seattle hotel and book the train to Vancouver.
Need to figure out which hotel to stay at in Vancouver, have a couple of ressies out there now.
AK excursions are taken care of....we're doing the ABD add-on.
Not participating in FE's since they can take up so much room in luggage.

Hubby has minor hand surgery this coming Wednesday.
We sail on the Dream in 3 weeks.
We'll be in FL after school gets out for about 7 weeks. Now to figure out if DD can take her final exams early since they've extended the school year to make up for the snow days. If she can we'll keep our original plans of heading to FL on June 9th. If she can't we'll have to figure out when to head down and DH will then have to change his vacation week. Too much to think for then.

Keeping fingers crossed it all comes together.

We have flights booked from UK to vancouver coming in the day before we sail, we have a hotel booked for the night - but don't ask me which - I don't do the bookings round here, just reap the benefits:rotfl:

DH has set a reminder in his Iphone diary for our booking slot opening for excursions.

We are thinking
  • Whitepass mountian rail ride with kids exclusive activity on board
  • Crab fishing excursion for DH, with a visit to the totum pole park and the loggers for me and the kids
  • whale watching(the ones offering money back if no siting guarenteed)

Not sure what else DH is planning, I am hoping he will book a brunch or afternoon tea at Palo's, so not bothered about the evening meal there really as we have eaten there plenty and I love eating with the kids.

I need to go hunt out the lates FE list so that I can start gathering appropriate gifts for everyone. I already have something in mind that will serve as individual gifts for most but its the really littlies that I need to think of as not the thing I have in mind wil be any use for them.

DCL is on my mind everyday - hmm maybe its because I am always wearing one of my DCL tops - today's is one of the inagural Dream jackets that we were lucky enough to get hold of during the shop scrummage one day on the MV!

soooooo excited now:banana:

We still need to book a hotel for Vancouver. We are coming in a few days early. I would love to whale watch there as I have read that several orca whales live in the waters off Vancouver. Would love to see that !!:lovestruc

For Alaska I want to :
zip line, see the bears and something on the water (kayak? don't know yet) There are about 10 others I'm sure so I have to really look at that. Also need to plan FE gifts! No ideas there yet.

So.... I just went on the DCL website and tried to book an Alaskan cruise in August. Only Aug 16 and 30 were available. Ours must be sold out, or close to it with TAs holding some spots, because it doesn't even show up on the DCL site as a possibility.

When checking did you include kids or was it only adults? I find that it's easier to see how well the ship is sailing when checking for just adults. Many times with the younger kids the slots are already full for that age bracket and the cruise will not show up as being available.

Nope, I know that trick so I just did 2 adults. Either it's full or a lot of cabins are being held:confused3

Their will be at least one cabin showing up soon. I have been waiting for 2012 to come out for the summer before canceling, but the final payment is coming up soon and will need to move cruise before then.
