August 9, 2011 (8/9/2011) Taking the Wonder to see the AMERICAN CHILD

With sadness in my heart, I must cancel our planned cruise. Due to unexpected expenses and a reduction in income has caused me to cancel our cruise.

I wish you all a great cruise. I look forward to reading the trip reports,

oh I am so disappointed for you.. and sad to see you go..:guilty:

Has anyone given any thought to excursions yet? I've been reading and researching everything I can get my hands on. From what I've read, just about all the authors/guidebooks say that if you're going to Alaska, an excursion not to miss is to the Misty Fijords at the end of the Sawyer Glaciers in Ketchikan. DCL seems to have a couple options for this.

Another hint I've read (AlaskaCruiseAdvisor.com) is to take the Mt. Roberts Tram (about $21pp) in Juneau. The entrance to the tram is next door to the cruise ship docks and they say it's an amazing view from the top - the city of Juneau, Channel Islands, fijords, glaciers and mountains. There's also a very good chance of seeing wildlife like marmots, eagles, wolves, bears, goats, deer, etc. Also in Juneau you can take an inexpensive bus (about $10.00pp) to the Mendenhall Glacier National Park.

Haven't figured out anything for Skagway yet - anyone have any ideas? I bought the Frommer's Alaska Cruises and Ports of Call book but I'm a little disappointed in it. It spends a lot of time talking about ships and itineraries, not so much about things to do in port.

Hope everyone is well. Once our "paid by" date comes around it will seem like the trip is just around the corner! :hourglass:

Karen :flower3:

i have looked at excursions.. but  i am looking to see what others have experienced before my final choices.. but i did look at the same Juneau ones you had mentioned..

They are doing the 6/24 Podcast cruise with us on the Dream. We are doing the Podcast events - they are not.

we looked at the 4 day DREAM podcast cruise.. but DH would rather do a 7 day.. plus who am I kidding.. i have lots of "friends" on the cruise and wanted to be with them..

Thank you, I'm hoping that the 2012 summer schedule for the wonder is posted soon. I may be able to transfer my reservation's down payment to that cruise.

I'm still hopping for Alaska.

Welcome - I'll get you both added to the first post shortly.

Hi all, haven't posted in a couple of weeks it has been a little busy here back home but am currently on a week off of work(school break) so am enjoying some down time with the family.

Welcome to the newbies that have joined since I last posted and sorry to see some of the original cruisers having cancelled.

Thanks Joe for the FE updates, I am so excited about taking part in this, just trying to work out the best things to bring as a taste of the UK. Any requests:lmao:

So we have looked at the ports of call excurscions and have more or less settled on one for each POC, just need to the booking day to open up now and see what we can do.

Have a good week everyone
:cheer2:

Welcome aboard!!!!

If you're interested in taking part in the Fish Extender Exchange, send a PM to JoeSchmieg...actually I think you need like 10 posts to send a PM so just post a couple of times on here and then you'll be at 10 really fast! :thumbsup2

We're trying to figure out our airfare this weekend...I was just wondering, if you've booked your flight home, what time are you leaving Vancouver?

TheDisneyGirl02 - we are on a 2pm flight..so plenty of time to get off the ship and to the airport.

We are on a 12:10 PM flight out of Vancouver. I'm a bit nervous about that (this is our first ever cruise so apart from avidly reading these boards I have NO idea how disembarkation works). They did say anything after 12PM should be fine........

Don't you all hate me, but I'm so happy we don't have to worry about flights this time!:cool1:

:surfweb: well all the times you did fly back and a long way back./. we can let you skate this once..:)

we stood in line to get off on the PC and i said never again.. all the worrying , and running to get a plane was not the way to end a wonderful vacation..

I hate flying so thinking about booking a flight freaks me out! Sadly, it will take too long to drive from PA to Vancouver and I'm hoping to have a full time job by that point.

We will be going on this cruise, #6 on Disney

DH- Bill
DW-Maureen
DD- Kay (9)

We plan to arrive the Sunday before the cruise and spend a few days in Vancouver. After, we will spend three days in Victoria before returning home.

Looking forward to drinking (irish?) coffee in order to keep warm during the cruise.
