August 7th, 2010 Mediterranean Cruise

Hi Gang -

I just wanted to send out a reminder that if anyone is interested in joining the Fish Extender Exchange for our sailing you can either respond here or send me a private message with the number of adults and children either by name or indicate boy/girl with ages in your party as well as cabin # if you have it already.

So far we only have 3 families participating...hoping more people with join in the fun!

Won't be long now...:cool1:

Are there any families from California coming along?:grouphug:

We are coming from San Jose, CA...DH and DSs 8 (turning 9 on 8/11) and 12...Just catching up with this thread...Flying into Barcelona on 8/4...

Can anyone tell me what Fish Extenders are??

Yeah!! Won't be long now...:cool1: I can't wait to start booking excursions and Palo. Then it will finally feel real. I have been narrowing down my excursion choices and researching like crazy!

Which excursions did you choose/booked? I'm still doubting wether I should do Disney or do some ports on our own......
And sure we want to return to Palo's!

I can't book until May 9. I am hoping to do dinner at Palo one night. We have never done brunch at Palo so hoping to do that as well.

As for excursions this is what we are planning:

Malta - DCL: Cruising on a chartered turkish schooner
Tunisia - Thinking of staying on the ship - not sure yet
Naples - Booked private tour with Romeinlimo
Rome - Booked private tour with Romeinlimo
Florence - Booked private tour with Romeinlimo
Corsica - on our own
Villefranche - DCL: Nice and Eze with wine and cheese

What are others planning on doing???

Looks as a nice set of excursions, we already did the brunch and liked it very much!

What are others planning on doing???

We intend to book:
Malta: DCL scavanger Family tour
Naples: DCL Herculaneum Family tour
Tunis: DCL Bardo Museum kids/Family tour and Medina
Rome: private tour???
Spezia: On our own visiting Cinqueterre by boat/train
Corsica: rent a car or do a boat tour
Villefrance: we visit this region every year so decide to take an extra boat /Beach day

What kind of tour did you book with Romeinlimo in Rome, still doubting wether we will have the energy to do 3 days of excursions in a row? As we've been to Rome and our kids will visit Rome with school I'm also thinking of doing some shopping(Prosecco...) in citavechia and let the girls take a swim/go to their clubs and take an extra day on the boat....

Below is the description from Romeinlimo for the tour we are doing in Rome. I new that my young boys would probably not have interest in the Vatican, so we are going to skip it during this visit. So we opted for this tour instead:

Rome Highlights and the Catacombs
Anyone will enjoy these tours, but they are especially designed for youngsters or for those who aren't ancient history experts. Families who visit the Eternal City have a unique opportunity to make a boring school subject come alive for their children. With that in mind, we asked our guides to create an itinerary full of laughs and learning.

This is day is designed for the first- timers, is an overview of the best sights that Rome can offer in one day only.

Your driver-guide will pick you up at the port and drive you to the heart of Rome, Venice Square, where Victor Emanuel monument, called "the Wedding Cake", is located. Next sites to visit are the remainders of the ancient great history of the city: the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, the Circus Maximus and the Capitol Hill. Back to the center of Rome, you will visit the most famous today of all ancient city temples, the Pantheon, walk through Piazza Navona, see the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain.

After lunch it is time for the underground tour, where lies a serene ancient metropolis, seemingly frozen in time. You start with a visit to the stunning Medieval church of St. Clemente, under which the remains of two previous archaeological structures are situated. Next is a visit to one of the Catacombs, an important archeological area just outside the city, along the ancient Appian Way, one of several underground cemeteries or necropoli.

Well we reached the 120 days out mark today - so have booked excursions and Palo visits. Can't wait!

Hi Everyone -

All has been quiet on this thread...How is everyone coming along with their planning? I am trying to not get caught up in all this volcano news, but glad I have trip insurance. I feel so bad for everyone who is leaving this week. I hope all goes well for them.

Yeah...just had another family join the Fish Extender Exchange!

Thinking of all the travelers trying to make plans to get to the ship this weekend for the Med Cruise. Hoping all their plans work out so they can enjoy the cruise!

Got Palo reservation for the first sea day (Sun) last night when they opened up at midnight. A lot of the Palo dinner times and days are already taken, especially on the sea days. Also booked Carthage and Medina excursion in Tunis. The rest of the ports we are doing on our own, but this was a steal at only $39pp. Plus we dont have to worry about the local currency and Tunisian cab drivers. Booked a private tour of the vatican with a company in Rome. They let you skip the line for the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel, and it was only $300 for 5 people. Still a lot of planning to do, but have most of the other ports worked out. Cannot however find a rental car company in Corsica open on Sunday. Want to rent a car and explore the island and beaches. Any suggestions?

Congrats on your Palo reservation. I am a little stressed about that, but I have all my options ready for when reservations open up for us on May 9. Sounds like your plans are coming along. :)

We booked all of our excursions and Palo as well! Doing all dcl excursions for the first time ever for a variety of reasons--convenience and our unfamiliarity with ports and having younger kids we think they'll do better in a group situation than if we hired cars on our own. We got everything we wanted including preferred days and times for Palo brunch and dinner!! It is really st rating to feel real.

I was reading another thread and someone mentioned going through www.SIXT.com to rent a car in Corsica. Not sure if this helps :confused3
