August 6, 2005 Mexican Riviera..Who's In?

Welcome Lisa! Yay! I'm so glad to see we aren't the only DISers on this cruise! :cheer2: Are you Asian too? (I was judging based on your nic - does it have something to do with a cat?)

Thanks for your welcomes! Are we all going to wear big signs so we know
who the DISers are??? Suggestions? :rotfl:

Yes, I am Asian, to be Chinese exactly. The nickname came from a Japanese anime movie "My Neighbor, Totoro" translated into Cantonese. It's the name
the younger sister calls the giant Totoro creature. I'm looking forward to
Disney releasing this movie, since they have released most of the director's
other movies.

Lisa :earsgirl:

Lisa - I'm Chinese too! How old are you? I'm 35 and have 2 sisters. We're first generation born in the US. Are you first gen? Do you speak Cantonese then? I speak Mandarin and don't understand any Cantonese. :confused3

I think as we get closer to leaving, we'll probably decide on how to get together/meet as a group. I'm really looking forward to that.:jumping1: I've noticed in some of the other threads that DISers have had "nicknames" or something for their group. Maybe someone more clever than me can think one up. I'd like to make some door magnets and would be happy to make some extras for everyone else so we can tell who's DIS on the cruise.

Wow I just had a little shock! I went to the DCL website to check out excursions again and it says I can't book excursions because my cruise is not paid in full. I made final payment to my TA on May 25th so I called DCL (too early to call TA) and they confirmed my cruise is not paid in full. Of course I panicked thinking its after the final due date and of course I think they've given my rooms away! She reassured me they did not! Especially since it was about 3/4 of the way paid from previous payments. So I'll be calling my TA as soon as he's in to see what is going on. The funny thing is the DCL site let me book Palo and spa ressies weeks ago and now it won't let me do anything.
Vickie

Yikes Vickie!! It's probably just a glitch in their system. Very scary, I agree. Keep us updated ~

Congrats to wongmao, Lisa, on her first T.O.P. (top of page). Eve looks like we may have some competition from the newbie :rotfl2:

Lisa most DIS'ers wear lime green in one form or another, since that is the official color of the DIS. I know I only have 1 lime green shirt and it just happens to be a DCL tank I bought on my last cruise.
Some of us will be sitting together on 2nd seating, :mickeybar , so we will be able to find each other rather quickly the first evening.
We should probably plan to meet on deck 10 during the sailaway celebration, the easiest place to find everyone the first day. We will probably find each other in the terminal somehow as well, maybe near the kids club registration tables.
When Stacey gets back she can fill us in on the terminal layout better and maybe we can figure out something for the ones getting to the terminal early.

Vickie, I hope everything works out for you and it's just a small bookkeeping oversight. Looks like DCL updated their site just in time for you to find the error. Keep us posted.

I just got a call back from my TA. He said they mailed a check to DCL on June 1st. It has not cleared their bank so he put a stop on it and is overnighting another check to DCL tomorrow. I'll keep checking the DCL website and hopefully it will show as paid by the end of the week. The DCL rep was so nice and said don't even worry about it but I was just seriously thinking excursions! I knew I should have used a credit card, then payment wouldn't have been mailed!
Vickie

:wave2: Hi Lisa! Welcome to the thread and we're looking forward to meeting you and your family!

Vickie: Glad everything got straightened out with your payment!

Today was Brynee's last day of school...the Asian Club (I'm the adviser) had a potluck/swim party and we just got home! It was a nice group of kids and they voted to continue with the club next year...a diverse group of kids as we don't limit it to anyone! They just have to "belong" and be interested in learning about Asian culture!

I picked up lime green Mickey Heads (the paint chips) from Home Depot. If you aren't near a Home Depot let me know and I can send you some. I think I'll make some magnets for our door. Do you think we'll be wearing "lime green?"...it has never been my "color" :earseek: !!

Am I on top of the page again? :wave2:

Kidoctr, I send you a PM. ;)

jilljill, Thanks for the info regarding how is DIS'er recognize. :flower:

Vickie, the paint chip from Home Depot is great idea. I do agree with you that lime green is not my color. :earseek:

Lisa
I'll give you a hint.....there are 15 posts to a page, no T.O.P. this time. Keep trying.

Hi Eve,

I have checked in from time to time on this thread without posting, but I will have to keep closer track now that so many new people have joined this thread. Thanks for compiling that list, and just to make a correction, at the time of sailing, I will have a DS1 (his birthday is the day of departure) and DD4. It would also be interesting to see who has an early vs. late seating. Welcome to the new members. And finally, everyone is welcome to read my trip report of Universal Hollywood in the Disneyland trip reports section.

Lisa - It's me, Jenny, that can't wear lime green. It probably looks great on Vickie :) ! The only green I have is a staff shirt for 1 of my high schools and it's hunter green!

Carl - Mostly everyone is late seating. Are you and Courtney linked for early seating? I think I remember reading that. Are you planning to go to DL on July 17?? So far, DD and I are planning on it and I'll have to upgrade our APs to premium or stand in the ticket line for block-out tickets! It should be an interesting day :earsboy: !!

I don't look so great in lime green either! And I don't think I own any green! Maybe we can come up with something like green pins to wear?
Vickie

Hey Ladies,
I do have early seating. I can't imagine having late seating with a 2 year old or my soon to be 7 year old for that matter. They are both early eaters.

Courtney

Hi Lisa (wongmao) It is you - glad you joined us!

Everyone here is so helpful and lots of great info.
Lime green is also not my color. That'll be cool, whatever
we decide upon so we can meet other Dis'ers!
Hey, did I make it to the T.O.P.? :) Jinny

What kind of stroller should I bring for the shore excursions? Regular or umbrella?

Thanks,
Lisa :scratchin

Here's a thought for the early diners, or want to be early diners, you could link your ressies to an early dining cruiser and have a better shot of getting the early dining. Plus you get the benefit of sitting with familiar faces and having lots of good times at dinner. The late dinners have linked their ressies to be able to sit together. DCL is very accomodating when it comes to linking diners and ressies.

Courtney, nice to hear from you again.

AH, but the lime green seems to be one of THE hot colors this summer guys....

I was actually checking around our closets today and we all have lime green shirts (not matching) except DD. Shouldn't be hard to find one for her. We'll be there with lime green on (unless you guys decide something different)!

Jenny - Asian club - what a great idea. ::yes:: I don't think we would have quite enough interest around here, though. What in the world is a lime green Mickey head paint chip?

Carl - I will notate your correction, lol.
Courtney - I was thinking the same thing at first but now the idea of late seating is becoming more appealing. We can always feed the kids early (room service :hyper:) , go to a show and then take them to the club/lab while we enjoy a leisurely dinner without having to worry about reminding the kids that they were not, in fact, born in a barn, when it comes to table manners.;)

DH and I just sent in the passport applications for both our kids today. I was reading another thread that said the passport line at debarkation was much shorter than the birth certificate line. We were planning on going to China in the next fews years anyways.

On another note - have you guys heard about the jellyfish problem in Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan? Anyone know anything about jellyfish? We are booked for the Paradise Beach Adventure in PV and now I'm worried about letting the kids in the water.

That was the only way I was able to get early seating; Monika (maddiesmom) allowed me to link our reservation to hers. I had really been stressing about having late seating, though I know given that dining with such young children is stressful even in the best of situations (like being at home!).

Home Depot sells the Disney themed paint and the 'paint chips' they have for you to take are in the shape of a Mickey head, the icon.

On one of our cruises DD had pizza and strawberries every night for dinner. After the first night as soon as we sat down her plate would arrive and she would quickly eat it and then go to the kids club. It worked out great. We would see our server sometime during the day and just tell him that DD was having her usual.
There's always Pinocchio's or Pluto's, on deck 9, to get them food.
