August 5th 2012, Magic- NY to Canada

I printed an ealier version of the FE Exchange and it looks like lady9 moved from 8082 to 2024. Is this correct?

Yes, that is correct. We went from a veranda to an ocean view. We had several unexpected expenses come up (BOTH cars needed repairs at the exact same time!) and this was the best way to pay for them. We are hoping to upgrade at the port at a discount. If we do, we will put a note in everyone's FE that we have moved again. I'm sorry, I hope this doesn't cause too much inconvenience for anyone. We really want a veranda!! I think we are sailing pretty full though. We'll just have to see.

There are a whole bunch of us on Deck 2 so you will not be lonely. We have been on 2 and also on 6 with a verandah and in a way I prefer 2 it is easier to get to when the elevators are crowded and the big porthole window is really nice.

We were on deck 2 for the Alaska cruise last year and loved it. I know we will be happy no matter what deck, so excited to be on our 2nd Disney cruise!

New to disboards. Sailing Aug 5 on the Magic , me, hubby, son 7, daughter 4
Can't wait. great that its sailing from NY already live here
son needs a gluten-free diet anyone know how disney handles special diets

Great! I just want to make sure I find you!!! I completely understand the unexpected expenses situation. Just when I think we have things 'under control' with the house and cars, something comes up that brings me back to financial reality. sigh. It will be SO wonderful to be back on the Magic and leave all those worries behind even if it is just for a week.

Can someone please remind me when and where our meet is going to take place?

We have traveled with some folks that had some special dietary requirements (not gluten allergies but some rather difficult other issues) and Disney was great about it. I have always called DCL ahead of time and had it put into our reservation information. Once we boarded I went to guest services and asked made sure it was noted in our information. On the first evening, the head server came over and discussed the issue and they were on top of it throughout the cruise. I don't know what other folks' experience has been but that was a personal experience several years ago.

My godchild is on the gluten free diet and has sailed twice so far with Disney and called ahead and had it put on the info card and had no problems. They make you see the next night menu beforehand and you pick out your choices and Disney was right there for them. Have a great time

If everyone is alright with this, this is what we are going to do...
Coach, I agree that this is an excellent idea. One idea that has seemed to work well has been to meet at 3:00 pm Sunday, shortly before the safety drill. Most have embarked by then, and not much is going on. That way we know who we are, before we actually sail. It's worked well to meet in the Promenade lounge, but that is only one suggestion . . .

Happy Independence Day to all!

and in 2 weeks we will all be off! I saw quite a few birthday's on this trip..mine is the 5th also...go Leos!!
Traveling with Hubby, 2 teens (16 & 14), and another family with an 8 & 11 year old! One of us is on deck 2, the other deck 6. 1st time on Magic, 2nd cruise...sailed Dream last summer...hope Disney will come back to NYC in 2014!
Can't wait to share the experience with you all....

I am cruising on this sailing as well and also require a gluten free diet. You should contact DCL and let them know your sons needs prior to sailing. There is a special form that can be faxed in. Here is the link.

Both of my daughters are gluten free and it's not a problem at all at the sit-down places. I think the faxed form is just for their planning purposes. Sometimes I remember to send it in and sometimes I don't. You may some issues on shore excursions. Sometimes the companies that are being used don't have gluten free options. Although, they will try and usually come up with something. Anyway, in the dining room be sure to order 1 night ahead. They will show you the menu and you can pick any item and they will make it for you. At the fast serve windows, they seem to be getting better as well but try not to go when it's crowded. Good luck! And enjoy the creme brulee; it's a favorite in the dining rooms!

We are also celebrating an anniversary- 45 th so we are old too. This will be our 8th DCL cruise and we are on Deck 2 this time. We usually do 6 and our favorite room is 6046.

Looks like we are sailing full. Checked today and there was only a 9c showing when I put in 2 passengers....

Thanks. Was more concerned about things like bread, pancakes, cereal, cookies. But I always pack stuff anyway. Can't wait. cabin 6571

This will be my Mom's 6th consecutive Disney cruise and she has eaten GF since 1992. Disney does do a great job with adults. I'm sure they will do right by your son. As stated above, you can order nearly anything ahead. I'm not sure how many GF items they have on the "regular" kids menu (usually grilled cheese, hamburgers, chix fingers, etc.), so it may be helpful for you plan ahead. FWIW, my mom really hates the GF dinner roles they will bring you every night. I do think they tried to offer her a GF waffle or pancake somewhere along the line, but she really loves eggs for breakfast, so not a problem there. She always travels with popcorn cakes for eating with eggs or bread dips.

Happy sailing!

Getting so excited! We have reservations at the Westin Times Square and need to get our luggage there before running like chickens with our heads cut off to get to the WTC Memorial for our 10:30 (what was I thinking :confused3) appointment.

How early can we disembark with our things, and would the best bet to be a taxi or arrange for a service to pick us up? Any New Yorkers have recommendations?

Thanks in advance :scared:,
Laurie
