August 5th 2012, Magic- NY to Canada

So happy to find this thread! My husband and myself along with our two sons, 11 and 15 will be sailing to Canada. We love Disney World and are hoping that the Disney cruise will have many of the fun elements we love about visiting there.

We got a "guaranteed" 9b room instead of selecting our room as that was all that was available at that level. I thought (obviously erroneously!) that a year in advance was quite a long time.

I am very much looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Just heard from my TA that Disney will be using the Marriott Marquis Times Square, the Westin Times Square and the Loews Regency as their hotels

We got the same thing the other day by email. I know we plan to go up on the 4th so we can catch a show, but not sure which hotel to stay out, just because I want to be able to leave my car somewhere. We are only 4 hours away and are driving up and hate to pay to much for parking.

Well, I can tell you that parking + manhattan= expensive! The port I believe is $30. Most hotels run around $50 - $60. There was a link on the NY info thread to a site that let you put in when and where you wanted to park andit would show the options in the area. Have you considered the train? Taxis etc are simple and relatively inexpensive. There are lots of great hotels that are not expensive and if you to some research you can always get a deal. I would only use the Disney hotel if I was doing their transfers and was not a confident traveller.

We will be aboard; myself, DW, DD(12) and DS(9). We usually cruise with another family who will be on this one as well; husband, wife and three sons (18,16,14). We booked this while on the Alaska cruise about 6 weeks ago and will be our last family vacation before I leave for another deployment (Afghanistan this time). Looking forward to it.

We are booked for this cruise and are looking forward to departing from NYC where we don't have to fly. We are from the Boston area.

Lori and Ralph
Rachel (will be 20 at sailing time)
Natalie (will be 17 1/2 at sailing time)

This will be our 11th cruise and our first at Platinum!
I'm changing over to a new Disboard name since I was so lame to pick my own name as a login originally. lori_vinciguerra is now BraveCruiser. Thanks to teriyaki for the suggestion!

There does not seem to be too much activity on this thread. I wonder how the sales are going for these trips? We live in CT and last week was the first time I saw any advertisement about the NY sailings.

We are in! :cheer2: We also booked in AK, and originally on 8/12, but we have moved to 8/5 to be with friends whom we met in AK, and also to give me peace of mind - in the unlikely event that I can find another job and would need that week for training.

I don't know if anyone here is interested, but our AK board guru created a Facebook group that many of us also participated in. The upside to that is that it is more private. Just a thought, especially if we get around to creating a FE group.

We are myself, DH, DD (11, nearly 12 in Aug), DS (8), DMom (not posting) and DDad (also not posting).

Can't wait to get to know you as the year progresses. Also, my kids don't know yet, but will find out at Xmas. If anyone has similar aged kids and want to set up pen pals, I've done that for prior cruises and it's been GREAT. My kids have Loved knowing that they have a friend on the cruise ahead of time and it's been tons of fun.

FWIW, for those who can afford it, the Marquis is GORGEOUS! The glass elevators and lobby lounge are worth the trip, even if you don't stay there.

The cruises are very different from the World, but gosh do we love them. We've cruised far more than gone to DW. No rides on the cruises, but still Fabulous entertainment. As for GTY, you NEVER know how the pixie dust will turn. You could end up in a cat 6 or above. I wouldn't worry too much about the cabin. I do believe that you'll be satisfied in the end.

My DW and I are at WDW after the 5 night Dream cruise. We booked the 5 night August 5th NY cruise to Canada while on board. This will be our 8th. Disney cruise...almost to platinum. We'll be back in CT on Wednesday. The Dream was packed...I hope our cruise is a little more personal. Typing this from my phone which is not fun for us oldsters. I'll update when we get back home.

YAY!! Joy has joined and now so have I!! We'll have to keep Hannah and Colin in touch over the next year!

As with every other cruise, it will be myself, my wife, and my three daughters. This time we'll be joined by my mother-in-law...so HELLO Mommy and Daddy time!! Can't wait to meet you all and we are definitely in for FE and pre-cruise meets.

Less than a year away!

Just got our room confirmed at the Westin at Times Square for our 3 night pre-cruise stay. Also have transfers arranged from hotel to port and port to airport so I'm feeling a little (okay, a lot!) excited and more relaxed as plans are coming together.

Looks like DCL is getting in to gear now that we have passed the one year mark and more details are coming out about our cruise. Can't wait to find out about the excursions that will be offered.

Now I'm just waiting for Delta to list their flights for next August.

Can't wait to meet you all!

HappyGoofy: We will have to celebrate our shared birthday with a "drink of the day"! :woohoo: I'll be celebrating my 60th.

Always interested in a Facebook group page. We did that last year and we're still all talking!

Hi Everyone!

Just booked this cruise while onboard the Dream. The Dream made my 24 cruise on Disney. Very excited to be leaving from New York so I booked a handful of cruises on the Magic for next summer. I think the magic will be my home for a month and a half, God willing.

It will be myself and my 15 year old daughter, from Long Island, New York.

Can't wait to meet everyone. :goodvibes

The title is "Nova Scotia August 5th." I just set it up and added Jeremy (since we were already friends.) I'm happy to add anyone and/or anyone who wants to co-administrate the group. Just let me know!

P.S. MouseNDaHouse and I cruised together this Aug and each have a 7 yo, so we got to be friendly and had a Great time!

Have you ever considered adoption? Although my parents are phenomenal, I just might throw them under the bus if you had any interest in adopting a pleasant 41 yo! :rotfl2:

Which AK cruise were you on? We were on the 8/9-16 cruise. Maybe we met you too :)

Hi!

We're booked on the Aug. 5th cruise, but might have to change dates or cancel if our kid's band camp doesn't match. It's always been the first full week of August. We're very close friends w/ several adult leaders who will be at the camp. One is even a DVC member. I couldn't be unavailable if I didn't feel that we had people right there at camp in case we couldn't get back. We decided the 5 day would be perfect for just us DH (46) & DW-me (42). We'd be home in time for the end of camp concert & to pick them up. We'll be celebrating our anniversary 19 years--who says you have to wait for an even number.

Cross your fingers for us! :wizard: We booked while onboard the June 14th Alaskan cruise--which was amazing. I took off my ticker, b/c it made me too sad, b/c we all miss Alaska & Canada. I think we'll have plenty of people onboard. Many of the rooms I 1st requested were gone. And of course the early birds got the SPH. ;) We're in Room 5018 for those that might be near by in those SPH.

This will be our 5th cruise next year. We'll get to GOLD CC before our kids. I wonder how that will work on the cruise after that w/ the kids??

Anyone ever do this??? :confused3

My DH and I were silver members on our Alaskan cruise in August. It was our DS (22 months) first cruise and he had no status. As long as you are gold though, it shouldn't make a difference. You can still book the whole family early and attend the reception together. My parents were gold while we were still silver. She was able to book us all early (prior to it opening to the general public) on our Alaskan cruise.

Tara

It will be my DH, DS (almost 3 on the cruise), 6 month old baby (gender to be determined), my mom, dad, and older sister). This will be the adults 6th cruise, my DS 2nd and the baby's first.

We saled Alaska with Joy and Jeremy. Join the Facebook page. We shared lots of info on our previous one! Thanks fore setting it up Joy.
