August 4th:
Our day began early...well mine began early. I woke at 4am and got ready to go. Changed the kitty litter got Kitty all set for a week without me by spending some quality time with her. Then headed across the street at 4:50am. Ron lives across the street from me with his family. Well, much to my dismay, he wasn't up yet. We were scheduled to leave the house at 5am. YIKES! Ron scarmbles into the shower and gets ready...FAST! We are off at 5:05am. Not too bad.

We arrive at the airport at 5:30 am and check in. Then we head to Dunckin Doughnuts to get some coffee and bagels. We board the plane and arrive at Orlando International at 9:40am. We take the mears shuttle to Port Orleans Resort and arrive at 11am.

We had never stayed at Port Orleans before. So this was a new experience for both of us. We got off the bus and headed for registration. We loved the fountain inside the foyer of the hotel. But were disappointed that it only "worked" out day of arrival. But alas....We checked into the resort and our room was ready (1318). It was a parking lot view. But we couldn't really see the lot because of all the trees and shrubbery outside our room. We were happy about that. We unpacked all of our many bags, five for 2 people. Wow.

After packing, we took the bus to Downtown Disney. We walked aorund the shops and made our way to The Many Days of Christmas, where I picked up my guest of honor badge. After looking in the lego store, the skies decieded they were going to open up with a big crash. The rain came and came and came. It lasted for about half an hour. But we decided to make our way to the boardwalk bus stop in the rain. besides I had sandles on. So, I took them off and waded through the puddles. It was rather fun.

We headed to the ESPN Club at the boardwalk and were seated immediatly. I had a chicken Sandwich and Ron had a Rueben. We did have a problem with our food getting to the table. We placed our order around the same time as several other tables around us. However, they all got there food much before we did. So, we kindly asked our waitress what was up. She checked on it and out slip had fallen off the grill. So, she rushed the order for us. We were sympathetic because I am a waitress and this has happened to me. Besides we really didn't mind. We were starting our vacation...relax...relax...relax...

After lunch we walked to Epcot and rode Spaceship Earth. I hadn't been on this since 1988, when I was 10. Ronnie hadn't been on it either since he was 13 in 1988. So, it was really like a new ride for both of us. We began our ride not really knowing what to expect. But we were soon stuck within the ride. But we figured it may have started to rain and thunder again outside and this was the cause for the delay, which it was. So, we waited it out and the ride began again shortly. After experiencing this neat ride we headed to Honey, I shrunk the Audience, which we walked right into with only a 5 minute wait. We both got a good belly laugh out of this one. It was rather cute, but not as much fun as It's Tough to be a Bug! in Animal Kingdom. We walked around several of the shops we had wanted to check out, like Mouse Gears. After this we headed to The Land, where I met Carol. She knew who I was off the bat...she says, "You're Melika, right?" I was so excited to meet her. Neat. We rode The Land and enjoyed it, as always. I really love this ride because I think it's so innovative and really helps to capture the essence of EPCOT. We also watched and experienced The Living Seas. This was a ride we missed last year and wanted to amke sure we did this year. Again, there was no wait and we were able to walk right on. We enjoyed it and loved the concept. But we felt it was a little out of date and with some updating could be a fantastic ride! By, this time, it was almost 8pm. We decided tp head to the Grand Floridian for our Dis Meet.

We had never been to the GF before and wanted to be able to look around ebfore our Meet. So, we walked aorund the lobby and gift shop and then listened to the piano player. We had decied to buy some postcard while we were there, so we went back to the gift shop. While in there John, Sue, and Family arrived. We met them in the lobby to watch the Pageant. Here is a link to the photo of me and Ron: http://www.disboards.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=78496&referrerid=19110 . We headed out to the beach and saw the back end of the pageant from the Polynesian. However it never came back around our way. So, Sue went to check on this and see where it was. It was at the Marina. Remember that everyone...the Marina. Since we missed it, we headed back to the Comtemporary to watch it there to no avail. Instead we watched the fireworks over magic kingdom. It was beautiful, especially the view. Thank-you John and Sue! After the fireworks, we said good bye to the Towncrier family and headed back to hotel to get some rest for another day at EPCOT!

Thanks for your report. It sounds like it's off to a great start. I leave in 28 days, yippee!!

Earth this past March.....what a time to take a snooze......thanks so much again for your report

It's always a good idea to start off a Disney vacation with a DISmeet. It was nice meeting you and Ron at the GF even though we missed the water pagent. It gave me a chance to walk around the grounds and find all the restaurants. I even enjoyed driving you guys back to Port Orleans. I was surprised that it took less than 10 minutes each way from the Contemporary. The walk back to my room was almost as long as the drive. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of your trip report.

I'll bet you didn't know that we were at DD and got stuck in the same downpour that you did. I was in the World of Disney making all those last minute purchases (that are still sitting in our living room waiting to be unpacked). The skies opened up just as I got to the car to fetch the umbrellas for the rest of my family. By the time I made the trip back to get them, the parking lot was underwater and I was walking around in soggy shoes. I guess that I had better buy some sandals before our next trip to WDW.
