August 30th 2009 - 4 night Wonder

Bad news...
We had to cancel our plans to cruise with you all... My wife had work commitments that came up. Have a great vacation everyone!

:sad1: I am starting to think that we are jinxed. Is this normal? for so many people to leave a cruise? Did I forget to put on deodorant?:scared1: :rotfl:

CastawayJP, all kidding aside, I hope the work commitments are good news in this era of layoffs and cutbacks! Have a nice summer!:flower3:

Hello Everyone on the "Plenty o' Rum n Parlay 4 None" crew!

I am posting a piece written by a fellow DISer that I got to cruise with last April. Her DIS name is Deb T. This posting is sort of a Disney Cruise Line "Boot Camp" where you can begin to prepare your family for the upcoming cruise. If you have cruised with Disney before you will really get a chuckle out of her writing...those that have not cruised yet...get prepared...it's definitely a Disney adventure coming your way!!! princess:

Hello Fellow Cruisers!
Just for fun, I've come up with a "Top 10" list of what you can do now to prepare for this cruise. In true David Letterman style, this is all in jest, so enjoy! Oh, and if this is your first Disney cruise, please be sure to re-read this again after our cruise... I promise it'll be much more humorous then.

Deb T.'s Top 10 List of Things to Do to Help Your Family Prepare for a Disney Cruise:

10. Start serving all breakfasts and lunches buffet style.

9. Every Monday evening, make everyone dress in full pirate gear for dinner. After dinner, dance around while talking like a pirate. Arrrrrrrrgh!

8. Set your children's artwork out on display in the living room, set up folding chairs for everyone to sit on, and then auction off each piece of artwork to the highest bidder.

7. Step outside and lean on a porch or deck railing, gaze wistfully out at your landscape, and comment on how amazing it is that the ocean is spread out before you for as far as you can see.

6. Start checking your children in and out of their playroom. If your children want to leave the playroom before you come to get them, they must stand in the doorway and make beeper sounds until you arrive.

5. Draw the DCL logo on tall plastic cups and drink your favorite alcoholic beverages out of them.

4. Every night, perform a turn-down service for everyone. Place a small chocolate bar on each pillow and leave a schedule of the next day's events and a towel animal on each bed. Oh, and don't forget to set chocolate chip cookies and a glass of milk on the nightstand (from Room Service, of course!).

3. Every evening at t 5:40 p.m. (for those of you with main dining; 8:10 p.m. for those with late dining), make your family line up outside the dining room door to wait for dinner to begin. Before they are allowed to enter at 5:45 p.m. (or 8:15 p.m.), make sure the table is set and their favorite drinks are poured and waiting for them. Oh, and of course, have a 4-course dinner prepared to serve.

2. Every evening at 8:00 p.m. (for those of you with main dining; 5:45 p.m. for those with late dining), have everyone sit in front of the TV to wait for that evening's show to begin. Actually, if you'd really like to enhance the cruise, I suggest you have the children watch Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, 101 Dalmatians (live action w/Glen Close), Sleeping Beauty, Tarzan (animated version), Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Pinocchio. Now, back to my silliness: on Monday nights watch Toy Story and Toy Story II for the "Toy Story The Musical" show and on Wednesday nights watch Peter Pan for the "Disney Dreams" show.

And the number one thing to do to help your family prepare for your cruise
1. In the mornings, make a 3-tone chime noise, then make the following announcement in your best British accent: "Ladies and Gentlemen, Girls and Boys, in 2 minutes time the forward door will open for all guests to disembark for school. The weather today is going to be (insert your weather, i.e. cold) so be sure to take your (insert necessity, i.e. hat and mittens) when you leave the house. And remember, all aboard is at (whatever your curfew is). Have a magical day!

:goodvibes loved the top ten! Somehow, my family did not appreciate my wanting to pretend I am already on the boat...:confused3

I am pretending I am on vacation...:teleport:...by doing the "I'm on vacation dance." :dance3:

Here it is only 8AM...on a Saturday...and things are just crazy! I need a vacation! :goodvibes

We were supposed to play a championship baseball game this morning, however; it poured last night. So the game has been moved to later in the day...when we were supposed to drive a "Shuttle bus" for our local new church (we are having a huge grand opening celebration!) So right now I am attempting to contact all ball players and the church in order to rearrange schedules...:scared1: Everyone else in my home is still asleep...boy would I love to be at the "Sail Away" party right now!!! :boat: Sipping on one of those fruity drinks served in the fancy cups!!!:cutie:

pirate: I am definitely ready for "Plenty o' Rum n Parlay 4 None!"

:cheer2: Cheers to the best day possible! Crystal

What a weekend! I am also ready for our cruise and a lot of rum :beach:
DD turned 18 on Saturday :scared1: and then had graduation from high school on Sunday. :woohoo: Now comes paying for college :scared:

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. :)

Yep! I'd be making all of those faces too! :scared1: :woohoo: :scared:

However...CONGRATULATIONS! :yay: is in order for your DD! I know that you must be very proud of her accomplishments! Job well done...:thumbsup2

Kudos for the DD graduating and going to College!!:cheer2:

My daughter (the one who talks to me ) and I have been printing and laminating pictures for our door. I hope we won't have difficulty in finding magnets to glue onto the back when Stateside! I also need to finish my fish extender today. I forget how much ribbon I need to tie onto it though. Next week we are 'moving' to our summer house, where there are no phones, tv, internet, etc... so we are trying to wrap things up HA!

Hi Debbie I bought magnetic paper from e bay and it is amazing .Also could you give me the measurement for the FE.

Hi Debbie!
When you get to the states you can try either Walmart or Michaels Craft Store to find the magnets. You should be able to get the ones with the adhesive already on the back. Also...for your FE...you might want to consider figuring out the ribbon part (if this is the part that goes around the fish) once you get onboard or leave enough ribbon to go around the fish. Last time I actually had to untie the top of my ribbon and readjust it to fit around the fish. It was no problem since I had left some extra ribbon...:goodvibes

Do you need any further information before you all leave? If so...just ask! :cutie:

I hope I did this right (posting the pictures that is)

Thanks for all the advice about the magnets and ribbon! I will certainly look for those adhesive backed magnets when I get over there! I was thinking about ordering magnetic paper, but in the end I am glad I didn't, because I am 'printerly' challenged!!!!

I did just sew 20 inches of bias tape like a ribbon to fit around the fish. We will also get some ribbon either here or there, so if worse comes to worse we will just tie some new ribbon on to get around the fish!

I had my older daughter write the names with fabric paint, trying to draw her in to the experience. She insisted on being last... :confused3 Anyway, this is what we have... (Carys, my younger daughter made a point of telling me how much nicer yours is:cutie:)

Well, that is all our news!

Your fish extender looks so professional!! You did a really great job, can't wait to sneak gifts into it :thumbsup2 I have to giggle at your daughter's comment, because I unrolled my FE the other night to take a peek and a number of the sequins seemed to have come lose, so I'm going to have to undertake restorative work already :rotfl: I hope you guys enjoy your time at the summer house :)

Also, just a reminder to everyone that the cruise payment deadline is 16 June - the deadline just about snuck up on us but fortunately it was in our planning excel spreadsheet so I noticed it when I was making our dining reservations and we're all paid up now. I think we're going to look at booking the glass bottomed boat excursion in Nassau - none of us have been in a glass bottomed boat before. :dance3:
