August 30th 2009 - 4 night Wonder

I hear you about things sneaking up on you like that. I tried to pay 10 days out (don't know what possessed me, but I was panicking then that soon I would have no access to a pc) It's a good thing too, as I had 'bank issues':scared1: That I would have otherwise not known about!! I don't want to think of what would have happened if I had waited until the last minute.:scared1: So, I have since sorted out all the thankfully tiny problem, and paid in full. Bring on Palo Brunch!!:banana: (of course, I doubt that there are any left available on line, so if I don't make the meet, you know I will be waiting in line at Wavebands!:dance3:)

Hi all
I do not know whether to put my alarm on for 5 in the morning :scared1:to book at the midnight USA time for Palo Do you think I am being to obsessive in my planning.:surfweb:
This is the last thing to book and we only have 69 days before we leave .

It is my DD birthday to day (20) so when this is over I am going to do my fish extender .I already have sorted some gifts.:)

Debbie I feel for you without internet .But I am sure it is also nice to get away.:)Enjoy

I think there are 8 cabins in the FEs nobody has joined recently.

Were any of you following the fuel surcharge ?
We contacted Disney to find out where we stood and this is the reply.

I am happy to assist you with information regarding the criteria for the $76.00 Fuel Supplement refund policy.

For already booked cruises, the criteria for refund will be determined on a quarterly basis by the market price of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX). If the closing price on the New York Mercantile Exchange of West Texas Intermediate fuel is below $70. a barrel two weeks prior to the beginning of the calendar quarter, the company will refund fuel surcharges. These will be paid in the form of an onboard credit.

If applicable, information regarding the Fuel Supplement Onboard Credit will appear on your confirmation. In addition, Guests will receive a notification in their stateroom that an onboard credit has been placed on their shipboard account.

*For those sailing in the third quarter of 2009 (July 1 - September 30), the fuel price determination date is: June 17, 2009

Up until last tuesday it was under 70 but now gone over so we will not be getting any on board credits :sad2:

Happy Sunday to all.
Janet

I think that posting this information every so many pages will be good for those who might be new to this thread or just checking things out. :cutie:

Some good news on my home-front...only 2 more days of school!!! :cool1:

Looking forward to it too, have started gathering FE gifts although realised this morning that after matching up the gifts with kids ages I bought too many for young kids so hopefully another family or two with younger young'uns join in :rotfl: Silly me. This is why I should make a list first, Then shop. :thumbsup2

:dance3::dance3: I just booked Palo Brunch for 10:30!:banana::cutie::cool1::woohoo:

Now I am in full gear for the cruise, the meet, everything!:yay::yay:

Of course, I do sometimes feel silly :rolleyes1 for getting excited over a brunch reservation, but the disboards can do that to you :rotfl:

Woah, I better go find me some spa time, thanks for the reminder! Will report back ;)

HKD is great for a short trip. It's a very small park (feels like about 1/3 of the size of the Magic Kingdom) but very pretty set against the background of mountains and ocean, and the cast members are excellent. The resort also has a mass rapid transit station so it's convenient to get around Hong Kong from.

On the day I arrived, I entered the park at the exact time the waterworks parade was winding around the train station hub. The park was so empty, there was only one other person standing with me in front of the whole train station along the parade route (although still a number of guests standing further around by the town hall etc) and it felt like we had the whole parade just for us. The people on all the floats stopped and interacted with us with their water guns and sprays and it was truly a cool, never to be repeated experience. I didn't take any photos because of all the water unfortunately!

The weather was a mixed bag, but didn't affect the fireworks. I had a 50% discount off the room rate at the Disney Hollywood Hotel with my annual pass so snagged a park view room, and watched the fireworks from there 2 of the the 3 nights - that was very cool, I've never stayed in a park view room before. The fireworks show is of course different again to those at the other parks. It includes some beautiful violin solos, and several songs from Mulan (which is one of my favourite Disney movies). They kick off the show first with a minute or two of a light show on the Castle front. I find this really useful because whenever a fireworks show starts, there's always an inevitable rush of last minute people who may or may not block your view, so it gives you some extra time to edge around and make sure everyone can see before the actual fireworks start.

On the downside, sadly, rude guests abounded, noticeably a number from India. I saw a number of run ins between them and shocked local visitors during my 3 nights stay and even had a not so lovely lady who for kicks assaulted me in the park and then harassed me at the hotel later in the evening. I've visited India and never saw such behaviour there, and didn't see anything similar while there in January, so I think I was just unlucky this particular week.

Also, I had no problem making a solo reservation for breakfast at the hotel (Chef Mickey, although no characters, was great with a fantastic range of different foods, covering local favourites, traditional english breakfasts, european bakery goods, salads and cold cuts, fresh fruit, indian curries and the trimmings, congee, dim sum, thai spring rolls, make your own noodle bar, sushi, you name it). However, in the park at the Town Hall they refused to make a reservation for 1 person at one of the sit down restaurants, saying that because I was alone I should eat at a counter service and not at a restaurant because restaurants were for those with family or friends. Never Ever had a response like that anywhere in my life and never thought I'd run into it at HK Disneyland, but just let it go and went off to enjoy myself, second class citizen feeling aside ;)

I love the HKD version of IASWA, and they of course have Philharmagic which is another of my favourite attractions at WDW. They also do the Lion King musical show, but a different version to at the Animal Kingdom. I was tickled pink to attend a Stitch Encounter (like Turtle talk with Crush at Epcot) in putonghua (Mandarin) and understand most of it, so my Mandarin seems to be progressing well! The show was hilarious and near the end Stitch decided to play matchmaker with two complete strangers, very cute. The biggest surprise however is the jungle cruise ride. It blows the WDW one out of the water, especially at the end, although I wont say why so I don't spoil the surprise if you ever ride it yourself :thumbsup2

So overall, a great trip (and far too much shopping outside the parks :thumbsup2) and most importantly, it was a handy little something to tide over my Disney park addiction until August! :rotfl:

On the cruise front, I've booked the glasss bottomed boat tour at Nassau but given Palo a miss - no brunches left and I think this time around we'll stick to the main restaurants for dinner. Fingers crossed everyone gets what they want :dance3:

I am happy cause we got Palos for dinner When we are at Nassau :dance3::dance3::dance3:
But we could not get the Brunch it was only available for 2s and we are a 3 .

Could not decide who to leave out :confused3:rotfl:so will keep trying .

We have chosen the second night as we will eat twice in the same restaurant and did not want to miss anything ;)hope I have this information right .
I did put my alarm on for 5 but woke up any way .Like you debbie I get so excited .Did you have to wake early ?

It was exciting going into where the castaway people go.:rotfl:
Janet

Hi Carys
Thanks for the HK trip report really interested at the differences.I was so surprised that you were not allowed to eat at a table service:scared1: I think a letter should be written .
Janet

So what did everyone book today?

I booked the Glass Bottom Boat Tour at Nassau, a cabana massage for myself on Castaway Cay (DH was totally uninterested in the couples massage), Palo on the 4th night and a pedicure on the 4th day. I was surprised at how quickly some of the massages were booked and how limited the Palo choices were. Good thing there are only 2 of us, otherwise there were no reservations!

Good luck to everyone booking today!

Hi Janet! (I can't find that 'hello' smiley) I think the second night is 'pirate menu' night so I think you chose the best night for Palo! I would have booked Dinner too, but I am not sure if my DDs will find people to hang out with and I wouldn't want them eating dinner alone! At least you know you will get the famed souffle! :thumbsup2 (Does anyone know if this is available for brunch?)
I set my alarm for 630 am so that I would be awake enough by 7am when the reservations opened. Of course, I was awake at 6 anyway out of excitement. The funny thing is, my daughter was also up and at 6:50 she decides to check her e-mails! I squealed, literally.:rotfl:

:tigger: Congratulations to all who were able to book everything that they wanted!!! :tigger:

Also...loved reading the report about HKD! Thanks Carys for posting that! :thumbsup2

:wizard: Now I need some pixie dust thrown our way...we booked a cat. 12...so we should be getting a cabin assignment somewhere around the 30 day mark. Last cruise we booked a cat. 12 and got a cat. 10. Who knows what this cruise will bring! It is very exciting though...:cutie:

I booked the Sea and See excursion in Nassau. I figure it might be awhile before we get back there, and the kids are just old enough to enjoy a brief tour of "another country".

Wasn't convinced we wanted to experience Palo so I didn't book and resies.

We are getting more excited by the minute.

Kevin

 Here's another "Hello" to everyone! Only 2 months and 6 days until we cruise!!!

:yay: We are getting excited!!! :yay:

:rolleyes1 I still need to plan out my FE gifts...I have some ideas...just have to commit to that's what I am doing this time! So many decisions...rum, magnets, candy, beach toys, bracelets, glow sticks, pirate gear, pins, luggage tags...it's gonna be a surprise!!! :rolleyes1

Heheh my dad keeps messaging me out of the blue with a countdown. I'm doing well on the FE planning front, I'm not giving any clues though!!:cool1: I picked up a new pair of croc sandals in HK with Castaway Cay in mind - if anyone is embarassed by croc wearers I'm giving fair warning now to avoid me on CC day :thumbsup2:rotfl2:
