This was our 4th DCL cruise and our first Western.

The cast includes DW, DS(19), Ds(15) and I (48).

We drove to the port from ASMO where we had spent two nights, and arrived at the port around 11:15. I dropped the family and the luggage off at the terminal, and drove to the Radisson to return the van and discovered that Avis had moved.

No e-mail, phone call or snail mail telling me of this. Found out that they were now 1 mile south of the Radisson in a small shack like bldg on the same street. Returned the van, they hand wrote me a receipt since all of their computers were not working and they drove me back to the Magic. Since it was already after 12:00, people were already boarding.

We were announced and immediately headed to Parrot Cay for brunch. The food there was great as always, especially the deserts.

We then headed over to Sessions to request Sylvester and Joel as servers. We got their names from this board. We had the LAP rotation and table 32 on our KTTW's but traded that for APL and table 63 to have them as servers. We were not sorry. Joel was on another rotation, but Zaldy was teamed with Sylvester and they were fabulous.

If you want a great team of servers, look no further than these two. They found out that DW likes DCL whipped cream and berries and we soon found a heaping bowl of berries covered by two inches of whipped cream at our table whenever they waited on us, including breakfast at Lumiere's.

Also Zaldy made DW her tea brewed over ice, and it too was waiting for her whenever they were our waiters. Sylvester will be on vacation starting next week for seven weeks, but will be back by the end of Oct. He has been with DCL for 3 years now and truly cares about making sure that everyone he serves is pleased with every meal.

After switching servers we made our way up to deck 7 and our cabin 7003 which is a cat. 10 near the bow. Since the seas were 4' or lower all week, we noticed no movement at all in the cabin.

Up to deck 10 for the sail away and to hear the horn at 5:00. We followed the new Carnival Pride out to sea, but overtook her furing the night as we arrived first at Key West. I also met Rae at this time. She seemed in a great mood. Probably since so many shrimp had met their match and made the supreme sacrifice just a short while before. LOL

Dinner that night was at Animator's and we also had the show. Maple glazed salmon was DW's choice as well as mine and it was very good. Creme Brulee was secured from Lumiere's by Sylvester for DW for desert and then it was off to the opening show at the Walt Disney theater.

Afterwards DW & I strolled around decks 4 and 10 for awhile and sat at the bow on deck 10 before calling it a night after a very busy first day.

I had Joel as my assistant server, I guess he's the same one. He was excellent! I didn't know you could request servers. We also had Sompong who was wonderful. I feel that the staff is getting better and better because many of them are staying on and becoming more experienced.

Don - just how many shrimp do you think volunteered to be on my plate?!!!!!!! *I lost count!!!!!

I'm always in a great mood, by the way!! Unless you get between me and my shrimp or try to take Fidelio/Dueling Pianos off the ship!!!!!!

By the way, I finally did get to meet the great Sylvester! What a hoot! I have a wonderful picture of him also in his white tux! He is really a great guy and I am so glad you were able to request and get him.

We go back on 10/25 and I'm definitely asking for Alex - Giorgio will be gone but Alex and Maclean will be there! Can't wait - they make us feel like family!

Can't wait for the rest of your report -
Rae

Rae,

Maclean was our head waiter. He was responsible for adding our table to Sylvester's other three. They don't switch someone else, they just add one more table to the server whom you request.

jlawall,

We had Sompong as a server one day in Lumiere's for lunch and thought that he was a fine server.

Thx for your post! We ran into Sompong several times on our cruise. Whenever we did he was cordial and friendly. The reason I liked him so much was that initially he gave the speech about us rating him "excellent." But then he said that he would do whatever he needed to do to be excellent. We are not demanding people but I really appreciated his enthusiasm and desire to do well. He made us feel very comfortable without being "fake". He truly was excellent and I did like his sense of humor as well.

Don,
I spoke with Maclean and he had to trade Alex's regular server for Giorgio whom I requested. When our cruise was over, Alex got his regular assistant back and Giorgio went back to his regular rotation. They did work well together and I am very appreciative that Maclean, Alex, Giorgio and the others were so accomodating to my request.
