This was our 4th DCL cruise and our first Western.
The cast includes DW, DS(19), Ds(15) and I (48).
We drove to the port from ASMO where we had spent two nights, and arrived at the port around 11:15. I dropped the family and the luggage off at the terminal, and drove to the Radisson to return the van and discovered that Avis had moved.
No e-mail, phone call or snail mail telling me of this. Found out that they were now 1 mile south of the Radisson in a small shack like bldg on the same street. Returned the van, they hand wrote me a receipt since all of their computers were not working and they drove me back to the Magic. Since it was already after 12:00, people were already boarding.
We were announced and immediately headed to Parrot Cay for brunch. The food there was great as always, especially the deserts.
We then headed over to Sessions to request Sylvester and Joel as servers. We got their names from this board. We had the LAP rotation and table 32 on our KTTW's but traded that for APL and table 63 to have them as servers. We were not sorry. Joel was on another rotation, but Zaldy was teamed with Sylvester and they were fabulous.
If you want a great team of servers, look no further than these two. They found out that DW likes DCL whipped cream and berries and we soon found a heaping bowl of berries covered by two inches of whipped cream at our table whenever they waited on us, including breakfast at Lumiere's.
Also Zaldy made DW her tea brewed over ice, and it too was waiting for her whenever they were our waiters. Sylvester will be on vacation starting next week for seven weeks, but will be back by the end of Oct. He has been with DCL for 3 years now and truly cares about making sure that everyone he serves is pleased with every meal.
After switching servers we made our way up to deck 7 and our cabin 7003 which is a cat. 10 near the bow. Since the seas were 4' or lower all week, we noticed no movement at all in the cabin.
Up to deck 10 for the sail away and to hear the horn at 5:00. We followed the new Carnival Pride out to sea, but overtook her furing the night as we arrived first at Key West. I also met Rae at this time. She seemed in a great mood. Probably since so many shrimp had met their match and made the supreme sacrifice just a short while before. LOL
Dinner that night was at Animator's and we also had the show. Maple glazed salmon was DW's choice as well as mine and it was very good. Creme Brulee was secured from Lumiere's by Sylvester for DW for desert and then it was off to the opening show at the Walt Disney theater.
Afterwards DW & I strolled around decks 4 and 10 for awhile and sat at the bow on deck 10 before calling it a night after a very busy first day.
