August 29th, 2009--Eastern Magic...Let's Get it Started!

Anyone ordering a basket from Shirley for our Cruise?

I've been thinking about it, but I think I might be too late now anyway...

My girls aren't much in the way of Sand Toys, so I was thinking of one basket for all of my girls (DW and DDx2).

Any thoughts?

Yes, the conversations get very heated on this - but really - he'll be annoyed if he feels pressured to dress up more than he wants. I think my husband wore a very nice suite on formal night and then slacks with a nice white dress shirt and no jacket or tie on semi-formal.

I really only care b/c of the photo ops, myself. :goodvibes

There were some gorgeous gowns on formal night - and a few surprise outfits. :rolleyes1

Suit! Not Suite! Guess I can see where my head is right now...

I'd walk it with you, I can't run either. Although, if it's insanely hot/humid I might just head for the nearest frozen adult beverage instead, you understand... Does one need to pre-register or does one just show up for the 5k?

I think we register on the boat. I'm in agreement that if it is insanely hot/humid I'll head to the nearest frozen drink too. DH said he might try and jog it

My day is going from bad to worse! Maybe I should have stayed in bed.

This is the satellite image as of 1:22 p.m.

Before I go on, let me explain one thing, I post the maps from the Nt'l Hurricane Center when they come out. They update maps throughout the day, so you will see them update on my post.

Remember that yellow blob from this morning? We'll it's now ORANGE #2. The NHC upgraded the storm's chance of developing from low to medium in the next 48 hours. Yes, this will turn into our nasty Uncle Bill (I really have an Uncle Bill). It's still a tropical wave, but will grown into a tropical storm soon, then it could become Hurricane Bill. I'll look at more global models around 8:00 tonight.

*********************************************************

I can not tell you if this storm will or will not affect our cruise. I do not have a crystal ball, if I did I would buy the ship and we would party like rock stars! Free cabin upgrades for all, I call the Walt Suite!

IF, and that's a big IF you thought about getting trip insurance, most companies will only sell you a policy BEFORE a storm is named. I'm NOT telling you to go out and buy insurance, and I'm NOT telling you not to buy it. We're adults and we can make our own decisions. Trip insurance is not expensive, however, on the flipside, I've sailed with DCL during a hurricane and they actually paid me because our trip was disrupted by a hurricane. Now is the time to start thinking if you want insurance, if you don't already have it.

Still have my fingers crossed. I'm definitely a worry wart  just don't want ANYTHING to interrupt my vacation, I so BADLY need it.

Need to look into the insurance now! Any recommendations?

I'll just wing it. We'll be in FLL starting the 22nd, then off to HRH, IF the cruise is cancelled, we'll probably extend our stay in HRH. I'll be disappointed, but I really don't think that will happen. The most that will happen IMO is that we'll leave from Port Everglades and end up on a Western.

So I've counted and recounted the FE participants list. I keep coming up with different numbers.

I came up with a total of 120... and in my case, I grouped the 16 and 17 year olds as adults. So my final answer is 60 adults and 60 kids... did anyone else get the same count? I want to make sure I bring enough for everyone!

This might help

:lmao::lmao::lmao:very cute Mike.

On the post for the fe there is a count of 58 adults and 62 children at the top. It had temporarily disappeared for a couple hours when I reposted the final list, but I added it back in that day, as someone had told me it was missing. I counted anyone under the age of 18 as a child. So yes, there are 120 total participants, you guys can break it down any other ways you want, according to whatever your needs for your gifts:goodvibes.

Hey Guys,

This is not a doomsday storm that could sink our ship. It's too far out.

This morning's early models were showing the 22nd. We sail the 29th, that's good news.

It's too soon to make predicitions, but have a plan. We could change routes because of damage to the caribie islands were visiting or maybe nothing will happen and we'll have seas as smooth as glass.

I'll keep you posted...

I think I read Shirley likes you to order around this time for our cruise, I think around 2 weeks out, so you may not be too late. We were going to order baskets, but now we are driving, and since I don't have to worry about luggage weight, I am making something for the boys and bringing it onboard.

Sorry I've been MIA so long.

:bday:party:It's my official 40th birthday today so I deserve a little break from all this stressful work.

But my real celebration doesn't start until next week. :cheer2: Looking forward to meeting all of you soon. See you at the Goofy pool at 3pm on 8/29!!! :dance3:

party::bday:party:
Have a great 40th, glad to see you back!

We will be coming in on 8/22 and we will bring our Wii just in case we have a few rainy days.

Good thing we have unexpired DW passes so that we won't feel pressure if we can't visit all of the parks:thumbsup2

re insurance
Do i need insurance if there is a storm?
If Disney feels it is unsafe to sail do they returmn my $
how does that work?
What would the insurance cover?
Thanks

I'll keep you posted...

Thank you!! :flower3:

I know people get stressed out by the possibilities.. but really - we've all picked the right cruise line and the right people... ;)

We may get diverted.. not a total surprise this time of year.. but if there is one thing that Disney does well during their training .... it is how to entertain the passengers.

So everyone will get their vacation - just perhaps slightly different than was planned. :wizard:

I think you would want to look at the main cruise thread on this. Lbgraves (a mod) is great - and I would take a look at her sticky "101 search tips". :thumbsup2

I for one do not care where we go. We are going to GO ON THE BOAT. But I would like smoothish seas. So Disney can bring me anywhere they want. I might not even get off the boat for the whole 7 days. ;) Just steer me around the storm :)

I was laughing at myself today though. It is our anniversary on the 30th. We had decided to not go to the carribean for our honeymoon because I was terrified we would be in a hurricane. Guess I totally forgot that when I booked this cruise! I think booking it in Feb, with the most gorgeous weather and the fact it was cheaper, made me totally forget. Back to reality, it is hurricane season.

I think that is a great idea. I got insurance by default and didn't cancel it (yes, I know it was cheaper not with Disney). But after reading that thread I am so glad I didn't. Such good points. I had no idea you needed it before a named storm, that was great info.

This is one of the GFS models 168 hours from now. It puts the storm as a Category 4 or 5 hurricane hitting the Leeward Islands around the 19th. From there "Bill" moves by the 22nd, but it's too far out to guess where. Maybe Florida, some models showing the east coast, time will tell.

IMHO and reading what the experts say, it looks like this storm will not affect us, it might change our ports due to damage on the islands. There is a silver lining, when a hurricane of this magnitude blows through it stirs up the water and the atmosphere making it difficult for another storm to form right behind it. It can happen, but it's much more difficult. That would be really good news for us!!

We could always start a hurricane office pool!
