August 29th, 2009--Eastern Magic...Let's Get it Started!

Hi everyone!

I am back from my big trip and saw the most recent FE list . . . we are really getting to be a nice big group! At any rate, I will be in touch here now for the rest of the summer until we leave the day before the cruise . . .

Hope everyone is getting excited about the cruise - I know I am.:goodvibes:goodvibes

Welcome back Julie, hope you had a great time on your trip. Just think in a couple of weeks you can start the packing all over again! :rotfl:

Okay Ladies I'm doing an informal poll...

What purse do you use on vacation?

In the parks?

On the cruise?

I can't decide, decisions, decisions.... I don't want something that looks like luggage or a tablecloth pattern.

Suggestions?

I try to downsize when I go on vacation but I still need room for my sunglasses, keys, camera, chapstick, hand sanitizer and of course money :rotfl2:
In the parks I use a small back-pack type of purse, something I can quickly throw over my shoulder not bulky though and small enough where it doesn’t get in the way.
On the ship I don’t carry a purse --just my lanyard but I do have this really cute straw handbag that I will be taking with me when I go into the ports.

I don't carry a purse on the ship either, just my lanyard. Make dh put anything else I could need in his pocket.

Speaking for the girls in the family (since I am the only man), in the parks we each carry a fanny pack.

On the cruise, usually everything goes in my pockets, on on a lanyard. My wife hates carrying a purse around with her on vacation. My guess, the important things (check book, wallet, credit cards, cell phone, car keys, etc.) will end up in the safe, and the purse will end up in the suitcase or closet for 90% of the time...

RJ,

We have no idea how many families will be attending. I know all the cool ones will be there!

No pressure there. I guess everyone better be sure to make an appearance at the Dis meet. :thumbsup2

I carry a baggallini at the parks. Mine looks like a small back pack, and it can be worn that way if you like, but the straps also zip together and clip to one side, so it's comfortable to carry over one shoulder. I don't care for regular back pack style, or across the body style, and I hate to have things around my waist or in my hands at the parks, so it works for me.

For the cruise... you're forcing me to admit a bit of a shopping obsession. :rolleyes1
I have a fairly respectable collection of wristlets. Last cruise I think I brought a dozen or so with me. Hey, they're light, easy to pack, and I wanted options. I always bring one to dinner, and I sometimes carry one during the day and/or evening too.

For the ports it depends on what our plans are. We often book big, active excursions... so we're not exactly stylish for those. Picture swim wear with a T-shirt and shorts and the free CC bag. :rotfl:

I usually have a fanny pack, DH doesn't like to carry all the stuff so a backpack he says is too cumbersome. We both have a fanny pack because we both wear glasses and need our sunglasses. I carry the camera. and if we are really lucky we only have one fanny to wear and we switch. We do carry our water bottle carrier, must thave water!!!

As for the cruise, I have a little wristlet from Hobo that I put our room keys and lipstick into. no pockets on the dress and DH hates when I load up his pockets with my stuff :rotfl2: For off the boat, there is the fanny or small backpack.

I'm a pack rat so I like to carry a lot of stuff, never know when you need it

You're a good man for answering this question!

What style baggallini do you use? I've been looking at the backpacks. Any good prices?

I wouldn't worry about the shopping obession, I'm in the same boat. Maybe there's a self help group on board! Last year I had to send the hubs out to buy a new suitcase the day before we left! I do recommend the LL Bean extra large duffle, it's holds a lot!! Um... make that two new suitcases, I forgot the bag we bought at Target!

Let's see... UPS delivered two pairs of Havanians today. One gold, one silver. UPS dropped off the Disney box with t's, etc and some gifts for friends. Bought 3 pairs of leather flip flops last week, gold, black and white. A girl just can't make those decisions! So I bought 1 pair in every color! I have the loveseat in the spare bedroom piled high with cruise clothes. Yes, most still have the tags on.

I'm so glad DH doesn't read the boards! He thinks I cook all day!

Hi Katie!

Welcome Aboard! I live in Albany.

Your first Disney cruise, how exciting!!!

Yes!! You will find special Minnies on the ship. She will be dressed in her red sailor outfit to match Captain Mickey. She comes in a couple of sizes.

If it's your first Disney Cruise you should dress up for pirate night. It's awesome. Captain Jack will be there too. He's sooo cute!!

The cabin doors are metal and magnets stick to them. Make something cool with your family name on it and mention it's your first cruise.

Any questions, feel free to ask us.

Hi Katie, we are from Syracuse too! Well, we live in Cicero, actually. Ally is almost 10, she is going into 5th grade at St. Rose in North Syracuse. This is our first Disney Cruise also!

Lori

Welcome Katie & family!
Glad you'll be cruising with us.

I use this one:

http://www.ebags.com/baggallini/urb...ceID=GOOGFEED&color=Pewter&CAWELAID=297131162

This style has been around forever though, so I'm sure it's available for less than $60 somewhere. Of course it looks like there are some updated variations with a bit more pizzazz now... Hmmmm ;)

I seem to get a little better when it comes to packing light every time we cruise, although I admit I have a couple of overpriced DCL bags from the onboard gift shop that were emergency purchases on the last night.
:rotfl2:

RJ,

Umm, the tram takes about 1/2 hour! I know a couple of families are going to the beach in St. Thomas. We're going to Meghan's Bay with another dis family.

In St. Marteen shopping and beach!

Doing the Eastern is very beach friendly.

Want to tag along?

We may want to tag along with someone. I haven't booked any excursions, but would like to get off the boat and do something. I'm just nervous to go out alone with my kids.

I use a camera backpack that I LOVE!! It's called a campack. I've had it for years. It's just the right size for me. Mine is pink.

Hi,
Thanks for the Minnie and pirate night information. Are there any other special edition cruise stuffed animals? My dad is a big Jiminy Cricket fan, and I was wondering if there were any Jiminy or other animals.
Also, are there any 12 or 13 year old girls that will be on the cruise? I'm 13, so I was wondering.

Welcome aboard!! I love Minnie too! They do usually have a Minnie in a sailors outfit on board. For door decorations, there is a topic on door magnets here in the cruise forum.

My 13 year old son, Michael, will be there.

Hi Katie,
this is our first Disney cruise too. Can't help you on the 13 year olds going on the cruise since our DD is 7 :)

Looking forward to meeting you and your family at the DIS meet on board.

There are some great threads on decorating your door with graphics.
