August 29th, 2009--Eastern Magic...Let's Get it Started!

Everything is quiet down here off of Route 40, just a light dusting of snow yesterday. Looking at the bright side, at least our Phillies won this year!!! We moved to DE 7 years ago, relocated from NE Philly, taxes much better here!

That's why I know Route 40. When I need to purchase an expensive t.v. or electronic device, I typically travel down to DE. One of my wife's best friends lives in Bear.

Let the trip planning continue:)

I have a 13 year old boy who is a little apprehensive about this trip. I have my nephew (6), daughter (6) and another son (10) that will be going on this cruise with us and they will all be in separate programs. My oldest said that he didn't want to go because he won't know anyone. It's good to hear other older kids will be going too. Do you find that the kids usually become friends quickly on the cruises? This is our first one and really don't know what to expect.

My 6 year-old twins have more company !!:cool1:
My 15 year-old is kinda of shy so I am hoping through the DIS that will help break the ice.

I have an older teenager (17 at the time of the cruise) and she has no plans right now of meeting other youth her age:confused3

I'm hoping that she meets others her age while waiting to board or early while cruising that she can hang with.

We probably will have our own table at dinner because we have a party of nine.

When we were just a family of five, we had great table mates and enjoyed their company throughout the cruise.

Joe

WELCOME !!! :dance3: :cool1:

I have 3 boys also, 15, 6, 6. Hopefully my 15 year-old can hook up with your teenagers. He tends to be a little shy.

I have no idea yet as to what to do at the ports...:confused3

Hey TonytheWop
I have a shy 15yr old as well (along with a not shy 12yr old DD). We live not too far from you in Ottawa, DH actually works in Montreal. Maybe being from the same area will give our boys something to talk about.

Hi Joe,
Maybe your daughter is just playing hard to get ...you know how these teenagers can get so moody. Does your daughter like younger boys / men ( 15 year-old), 6foot 2 , 220lbs hockey players ?? :groom: Just kidding !!:rotfl:

:wave2: Welcome to all who are joining our group !!:cool1: :cheer2:

:wave2: Hi Cindy,
Great , 2 shy 15 year-olds, they should have a great time together.
Guess what, my 15 year-old is a Senators fan :confused3 ..I have no idea where that came from.

We`ve actually :drive: to Ottawa to watch Montreal / Ottawa games :thumbsup2 and had a great time.

Maybe we will have to keep your not so shy 12 year old away though :confused3 :scratchin

Are you driving or flying down to Port Canaveral ?
We are driving down a week earlier and spending time at Daytona and WDW.

Oh oh leaf fan here ;) Definitely keeping the 12yr old away. We are flying down on the 26th of August unless plans change and we can leave earlier.

We haven't planned any excursions yet, have you? No one here can agree.

On our last cruise, my DD who was 15 at the time didn't go to the teen club. She got the invitation that they send to the cabin and must have thrown it away:confused3

As for dating, I have blessed that she hasn't shown much of an interest:thumbsup2

I keep her busy with school, basketball practice, track and school plays:rotfl:

Joe

Get yourself a shoe over the door hanger. This will help keep the cabin organized with your small items. Make sure that you get the clear pockets.

Actually , my 15 yo between school and hockey and part-time work and my sermons on how girls will destroy your GPA :badpc: hasn`t shown much interest either ...:rotfl2:

When you are in the stateroom corridors and you see the anchors woven into the carpet, the blue part of the anchor points to the front of the ship and the red to the back:thumbsup2

Joe

Tomorrow is 31 weeks and counting:cool1:

Thanks Joe for keeping this thread bumped up! :thumbsup2

I'm almost done planning for my trips before this so I will be starting cruise planning for excursions soon. ;)

I forgot to mention when we joined this thread that we would love to do the FE on this cruise. We did it on our Nov cruise and my kids loved it. I looked back throught the posts and know CruisinEars is no longer on our cruise and didn't know if anyone took over the list or not.

Not that I know of. Would you like to take it over and get us started:confused3

Joe

P.S. While the after Christmas sales are still good. Target, Walmart and Kmart have some great stuff for FE. Also don't forget about the dollar stores:thumbsup2

I would be happy to track the people interested in doing the FE. Since the old list has a few people that have left, I would like to start a new list instead of looking back trying to figure out who is here and not here anymore. If you are interested in participating in the FE for our cruise, please PM me so I can keep it straight. Please let me know your names, ages, and if you know yet, your cabin number.

If you need to know what a FE is, it is a pouch that hangs off of the fish outside your door. People that have decided to participate will deliver some sort of gift on their assigned day, and leave it in your pouches, then on your assigned day, you will deliver to everyone else's pouches. There are pictures of FE's and the examples of the gifts on the main cruise boards at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607&highlight=fe+gifts.

We have decided to do a one time delivery each. The post below contains both the families participating and the day of the week you are assigned to deliver. If there is a certain day you would like to deliver, please let me know. I will grant requests in the order I receive them. If I don't hear from some families by the end of July, I will pm them to make sure they are still going and still want to participate. I try to check in on this thread every day or two.

For those of you who fly in for the cruise. It is recommended that if at all possible, come in at least the day before the cruise.

On our first cruise, the liquid restrictions had just been put into place and it was delaying many flights and there was trouble with luggage getting lost. And sure enough many bags were left behind until the next flight.

Some people had cruises that day and were promised that their luggage would catch up to them at the next port.

One of our bags was lost and located on the next flight coming in. We went to lunch near the airport after picking up the rental car and came back to claim it. The airline offered to drive it down to cocoa beach to the hotel where we were staying, but we declined their offer.
