August 29th, 2009--Eastern Magic...Let's Get it Started!

Hi Everyone,
Been away for awhile...got very busy.:surfweb:
Happy New Year to everyone !
Welcome to all those who have joined our group and..:goodvibes
goodbye to those who have left due to change in plans.:sad2:

I don't care how many thousands I've lost :scared1: in the market or how low my Canadian dollar goes :scared1: :scared1: we have the TV Weather girl :happytv: on our side and, WE ARE GOING ON THE DISNEY CRUISE !!!! :dance3: :worship: :cool1:
But if Disney would be so nice as to give our cruise a KIDS FREE promotion I wouldn't object !:yay: :cheer2:

WOW...under 8 months to go !!!!

:sad1:

Canceled our cruise yesterday. DH had to have major foot surgery 2 days before Christmas and will be out of work for 3+ months. He may or may not have enough leave saved up to go on vacation by the time August rolls around - so we couldnt take the chance of losing our deposit. So....got the full refund ... and we're hoping that he heals quickly!:)

I hope ALL of you have a great and amazing time!!!!!:thumbsup2 :woohoo: :yay: :goodvibes

I just found out a few days ago that we would have had to cancel this cruise no matter what. My kids start school Sept. 1. But, we still have a "dummy" date booked and we look forward to sailing on DCL again.

Instead of the HAL Alaska cruise, my dh and I booked an adults only cruise on the Serenade of the Seas for mid August.

I will check back in and let you all know how RCCL compares to the fabulous experience we had on Disney.

Have a great cruise and enjoy planning your Caribbean shore trips.:goodvibes

To those of you leaving us. We hope that you have a great summer and that everyone is safe and healthy.

I guess this is the bi-product of booking early. Plans and schedules change and we have no control over illness, school schedules and jobs.

Joe

Sorry to see more people leaving our group!

I'm just starting to think about plans for this cruise. What excursions are people planning on? We've done the Easten before and did the island tour/coral world in st. thomas and the butterfly farm/island tour in st. maarten. They were fun, but we'd probably like to try something different this time around.

Hi,
I just booked my family of 5 on the August 29 Eastern. It's me (Melissa), my husband, and our 3 boys, ages 16, 14, and 11. It's the second Disney cruise for my husband and our youngest. We went on a 4 night in October 07. so it's the first cruise for my oldest two. I imagine they will be in the Stack, at the pool, and on the basketball court most of the time. They are looking forward to the food.

I originally booked us on the August 30 - 4 night cruise, but I really want to go ziplining and found a zipline excursion in St. Martin. In St. Thomas, I think we're going to take the ferry to St. John and go to Trunk Bay. What are everyone plans for excursions?

I still have the 4 night reserved, so barring any unforeseen circumstances, I will cancel it and stay with the 7 night. I'm looking forward to the lobster dinner too.

Can't wait - less than 8 months.

Welcome!!!!!!!!!!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

It's funny, I was just working on airfare for this trip this evening:thumbsup2

At any rate, for St. Martin and St. Thomas, we will be taking a taxi to a nice beach and relaxing . . .:goodvibes

I did zipline in Puerto Vallarta this summer and it was fantastic, so I am sure you will enjoy that.

One question - where can I look to find out what the themes are for each night? I want to plan a night at Palo and how many nights that we need dressy clothes for.

I believe Sunday night is usually formal, Wednesday is semi-formal, Thursday is pirate, and all the others are cruise casual, unless of course you go to Palo one of those evenings:goodvibes

Tuesday night is Pirate Night as the ship travels from St. Maartin to St. Thomas. And Thursday is the Semi-Formal along with the lobster dinner:thumbsup2

I was getting the other info from the navigators posted for an Eastern cruise a few months ago -- obviously they can switch things around though, and we can call a few months in advance and find out for sure (although they can even change from that -- our NYE cruise had formal night on NYE when we called, but when we got on the ship it was changed to the Monday evening). As long as you know that there is one formal night, one semi-formal, and pirate night, you can plan clothes -- it is just harder to select which night you want to do Palo if you don't know for sure.

I wasn't disagreeing with you regarding the theme nights. I was just pointing out that they normally do Pirate Night on an evening when they don't have to travel far because they really slow down the ship to set off the fireworks.

If someone wants to go to Palo's on Thursday Night and it turns out to be Semi-formal night/Lobster Dinner Night, Posters have reported that the best lobsters are at Palo's:)

Since we are traveling during Hurricane Season, anything is possible:scared1:

I have 3 boys also, 15, 6, 6. Hopefully my 15 year-old can hook up with your teenagers. He tends to be a little shy.

I have no idea yet as to what to do at the ports...:confused3

I 2nd this. We sailed on the 9/1 5 night cruise in 2008 and had our plans changed several times. Nassau was moved, a sea day was moved, those were moved back, CC moved, then cancelled, etc.

Our Eastern in 2/07 had pirate night on Tuesday I believe. We had the APL rotation and were in Animators for Pirate Night.

Hello Everyone,

On this Saturday we will have 32 weeks until the cruise. With this in mind on so that we can all know each other better. I am initiating a "tip per day" dialogue on this thread.

I think this will help first timers prepare and also remind others of what they have enjoyed or can on this future cruise.

With that in mind, I will go first. If others decide not to participate, that's fine:)

Tip for the Day:

If you save $20.00 per week until the cruise, you will be able to cover your tips for servers and the room steward (family of four). And have money left over for drink gratuities and room service:thumbsup2

Humm...$20 per week ? I think we have already saved that just in fuel for our cars since we booked this cruise.:cheer2:
$20 per week = $4.00 per weekday = 1 latte at Starbucks per day..I don't know if I can handle my day without the latte :scared1:
But I guess for tips for those hard-working people of DCL I'll do it !!:thumbsup2

I have a 13 year old boy who is a little apprehensive about this trip. I have my nephew (6), daughter (6) and another son (10) that will be going on this cruise with us and they will all be in separate programs. My oldest said that he didn't want to go because he won't know anyone. It's good to hear other older kids will be going too. Do you find that the kids usually become friends quickly on the cruises? This is our first one and really don't know what to expect.

Hi all,
Since we are all depressed about our Eagles losing this weekend, we comforted ourselves by booking this cruise. This will be our second DC. We cruised the Western route Nov 15, 2008 and cant wait to get back on the Magic. My DH 46, myself 44, DS 11, DS 10, DS 7 will all be there. My kids love everything about cruising, especially the clubs, and are really excited to be going on another cruise.

Welcome to our end of the summer cruise group:cool1:

How's everything on Route 40? We got a little snow today and the Eagles lost yesterday, so all is quiet:sad2:
