August 29th, 2009--Eastern Magic...Let's Get it Started!

i have been busy shopping , packing and not so much planning :(
I am hoping to meet up with u guys. I was also excited to hear about one planned group outing to the beach. Are we meeting somewhere the first day? I realize I am too late for the nice braclets :(

but hope to meet u guys, I am ready for some fun :)

Also I am staying 3 days after the cruise. Any suggestions on where to stay that willl be onsite fun for the kids and maybe not to far from the port.

We like the Radisson, nice pool the kids like, tropical relaxing setting all around it.

Just thought it might be helpful to add the National Hurricane Center's commentary:

ABNT20 KNHC 101736
TWOAT
TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
200 PM EDT MON AUG 10 2009

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS HAVE CONTINUED TO DIMINISH IN ASSOCIATION
WITH THE BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED JUST TO THE WEST-
SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTHERN CAPE VERDE ISLANDS. HOWEVER...CONDITIONS
STILL APPEAR FAVORABLE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM...AND IT
COULD BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS
AS IT MOVES TOWARD THE WEST AT 10 TO 15 MPH. THERE IS A MEDIUM
CHANCE...30 TO 50 PERCENT...OF THIS SYSTEM BECOMING A TROPICAL
CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

A SMALL AREA OF LOW PRESSURE ASSOCIATED WITH A TROPICAL WAVE IS
PRODUCING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS NEAR THE WINDWARD ISLANDS.
DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM...IF ANY...IS EXPECTED TO BE SLOW TO
OCCUR AS IT MOVES WESTWARD AT 10 TO 15 MPH. LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN AND
GUSTY WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD OVER PORTIONS OF THE WINDWARD
ISLANDS THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING. THERE IS A LOW CHANCE...LESS THAN
30 PERCENT...OF THIS SYSTEM BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE
NEXT 48 HOURS.

ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE
NEXT 48 HOURS.

I get my information and maps from the NHC. I review it then rewrite it in plain English so eveyone can understand.

Yep, I figured so...

It looked as if the low pressure system just to the west of the Cape Verde Islands was lessening, and that the newest low pressure system near the windward islands had a very small likelihood of developing. I didn't see you mention that and thought it was good info...

Didn't mean to step on any toes....getting out of your "weather pool".:thumbsup2

Thanks for the weather info - forewarned is certainly forearmed! I was thinking that I would research getting to beaches from the Western ports in case we can't do the Eastern ports. Of course, Castaway Cay is the one you really don't want to miss, and I have missed it once due to a hurricane but have also made it there four other times during hurricane season:goodvibes

MN_Cruz'n,

No stepping on toes here! I'm impressed!!! Most people only watch the weather channel to find out if it's going to rain.

Actually, I could use your help... I leave for Disney on the 23rd. I can still post updates and dicussions thanks to my Blackberry, but can't put up maps (easily). I might need a good map man! Ya up for the job? We can tag team Mother Nature!

Hey Julie,

You bring up an excellent point... be prepared to go Western. DCL will and can change our route at any time. I've been through my share of hurricanes and tropical storms with Mickey. DCL has a habit of not telling you about a route change until you get to Port Canaveral. We've had some surprises at check-in and once at sea.

Also, I want to bring up the possibility of moving ports. We could be sent to Ft. Lauderdale. If you're on a DCL bus they will move you for free. If you're using your own transportation, be prepared to make changes, if necessary. I do believe there's a window of 48 hours to purchase DCL transfers. Please double check that.

I'm on the Red Flag distribution list for Port Canaveral. I get email alerts of changes, closings, alerts, etc. It's a good thing. They do a wonderful job of updating multiple times a day if bad weather is in the area.

We're still days away from sailing. Anything can happen, let's keep our fingers crossed. Remember, a bad day at sea is still better than a good day at home.

Luckily I am on DCL transfers this time, so no worries about getting to another port for me but others should at least be aware of the possibility in case a hurricane is coming close to PC. I was just thinking early today about the possibility of them switching us to a Western, which is why I started putting together some alternate plans just in case (our last cruise was a Western, so I would want to do something different this time if our cruise gets changed!).

Yes, fingers crossed that weather doesn't impact the cruise in any way . . . but hope for the best, plan for the worst!;)

Do not pay attention to Alexander Steele (that's not her real name), she used to lust after my DH!

By the way, I laughed out loud at this . . . I will never see her again on the Weather Channel without thinking "not her real name" and "that hussy!":lmao:

My friend was on the Nov 8th Eastern and got diverted to the Western itinerary last year because of a late season hurricane. We were on the Western Nov 15th. She actually got the better weather week, hot, sunny, while we got rainy, windy, and cool! :confused3

Husband's new sneakers just arrived via UPS.

You'll be able to spot Rain Man a mile away!!! He's ready to kill me. The sneakers are whiter than Alexandra Steele's (not her real name) bleached teeth.

I don't care if we go out in the middle of the ocean and do donuts!

Sure...no problem!

Just give me the heads up when you are going to be unavailable and I'll step in. We head south on the 27th, so I will be unable to post anything after the evening of the 26th. I would hope by then we will have a pretty clear picture of what's going on...

As a P.S. My wife often refers to me as "Weather Boy". I guess it's true...
