Hi there! We just booked our cruise and this is the first time I've cruised with Disney. I've just recently heard about the Fish Extenders and it sounds like SO much fun. We don't have a stateroom number yet, can we still participate? I know my kids (ages 6 and 3, but the little one will be 4 by cruise time) would love to put gifts together.

I really don't even know where to begin with all of this... so help?

So I've been doing a lot of research on how to maximize our family's time in port. Disney excursions are ridiculously expensive -- about $1,000 for our family of 4 in each port for all the things we want to do! I found a great alternative, recommended by Rick Steves (European travel guru). The company is called Can't Be Missed Tours and they have tours I'm interested in in both Rome and Naples. I've already booked Rome (thanks to friends in our cruise FB group). However, when I went to book Naples, the date we are in port (August 31) isn't on the calendar. I emailed the company and they confirmed that currently they don't have a tour scheduled on August 31 in Naples. They require a minimum of twelve adults in order to run a tour out of Naples. The company says that once enough people express an interest, they will open the date for booking. So will you please consider sending an email to info@cantbemissedtours.com expressing an interest in the Naples tour on August 31st? If you are interested in the Rome tour on September 1st, please go ahead and book!


AUGUST 31st -- NAPLES, POMPEII and the AMALFI COAST! Cost is 65 Euro for Adults, Kids 6-16 years pay 45 Euro and Children 5 & under go free. Large group discounts may be arranged. Tickets to the ruins of Pompeii additional 11 Euro. This tour is by private bus with private, knowledgeable tour guide. The tour includes 2 hours in Pompeii, 2 hours in Sorrento, Positano and scenic Amalfi coast drive. They guarantee on-time return to ship and have excellent reviews on tripadvisor.

SEPTEMBER 1st -- ROME! Cost is 69 Euro for adults, kids 6-16 years pay 49 Euro, and children 5 and under go free. Large group discounts may be arranged. There is also a fee of 14 Euro per person if you want an INSIDE tour of the Colosseum and for no wait tickets inside the Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel it's 21.50 euro for adults, 13.50 euro for kids. Main transport to Rome is via train (so no rush hour delays) and the company guarantees you will not miss the cruise ship. This tour hits all the major sites with a private guide. Excellent reviews on tripadvisor.

Hello Everyone:


I am a big fan of Fish Extender (FE) gift exchanges and so I am stepping up to the plate and will be our organizer. This is my 15th Disney Cruise, starting back in 1998 on the 7th sailing of the Magic. I have participated in a half dozen FE exchanges and enjoy them.

To sign up you will need to send a private message to RayOfRedondo with the following information:

· Your DISboard name (you represent your stateroom and all communications will be with you only)
· Your stateroom number
· First names, gender and age (at time of sailing) of each participant in your stateroom
· Their family role: DW: Disney Wife, DH: Disney Husband, DS: Disney Son, DD: Disney Daughter, DF: Disney Fan. If there are other family members or friends in your stateroom, let me know their relationship to you
· Any celebrations during the cruise (anniversaries, birthdays, etc)
· Each person's favorite Disney character
· Any allergies and what they are

I will post the information once I receive it. Group size will be limited to 50 participants, not the number of staterooms. This is a manageable numbers, per my experience. Once we get close to 50 participants, I will start a new group.

Mandatory: all communications will be via DISboards messaging service. Posting a general comment may not be seen. Also, you must go to Comment #35 and read two things: Cruise Meet Policy regarding Fish Extenders and DISboards Fish-Extender Basics. Many of your questions about FE exchanges will be answered here.

All applications will have a hard close on August 1, 2015 to allow everyone time to make their gifts. Anyone applying after that date will be told they can start their own group. I know this sounds cruel, but this has been a problem on other cruises, so I want to mitigate now.

FE basics: some give individual gifts to each person in the stateroom and others gift a group gift - it's your choice. There are numerous resources for FE's (ideas to make your own or purchase), FE gifts (again, make yourself or purchase), etc on the Internet. DISboards guidelines do not permit me to list them, but they are not difficult to find.

Everyone I have talked with about FE exchanges enjoys them and these ground rules are designed to make it so.

Danifae - RayofRedondo has offered to organize the FE here on the DIS. It looks like he updated his post (quoted above) just a few days ago.

In order to use the PM (conversation) system, you will need to have 10 posts.
You can go to the DIS Technical Support/Test board where you can quickly and easily post some one word (or one letter) posts to get your count up to 10.

Once you have 10 posts, you will be able to send a him PM (now called "Conversation"). There will be a link at the upper right on every page to your "Inbox" and you can click on any username and a link to "Start a conversation" will be available. In addition, you will then be able to upload images and have links in your signature.
