August 28, 2004 "LOST AT SEA" Cruise

OK Who is the Driscoll family with Cruells Deville?

We are the Driscoll family! Me, my DH and my DS16. Also travelling with my DMom, DSis, DNiece11 and DNephew8.

Hope everyone in Florida is OK!

Looks like you may be the first of us to go.. Make a safe path for us to get there ok? We have kids close to the same age, but my daughter is 15 and son is 11...
We have friends that go to Vero Beach the day before the cruise. They live in Norton Mass.
Still no MELANIE??

Doreen:jumping1: :cool1: :thewave: so excited....

I have to preface this with the words, I am directly challanged.

How far is Vero from the Port?

I was very bad today, did very little of stuff to get ready. I'm going to pay for it dearly next weekend.

I can't tell you how much fun it has been planning this cruise with you all. All the humor and special touches have made it so interesting. Seeing Bobby's magnet today just put me over the top. This has all been such a great distraction. Thank you all.

Darlene

I know what you mean Sandy, I'm going to miss this thread and everyone on it. We're going to have to move to the community board.

Thanks everyone that welcomed me to the group.
Winnyis - I used to live in Burl Twnshp (Bridle Club 12 yrs) Sold the house went to live nearer to my DD's. The money from the house paid for this cruise.
I knew about the DCL board - copied the cruise guide. Purchased the passporter's guide - it's awesome. I met Fred the one who did the dis meet in Apr in Jersey. There was a man there who wrote a new book on Disney Trivia. Very - very informative.
I didn't know about the threads of people that are going to the same place.
My other DD (tiggerwannabe) told me to look for a disboard like yours. I found you last week.
I ordered my magnet - booked the excursions - & my DD & DGD & I have been talking about what we are bringing (etc)
We are looking forward to meeting everyone.

Norton, MA is close to me! A few of DS16's friends live in Norton. :)

We put the car top carrier on the van today!

I've decided to re-vamp my whole packing plan - packing two suitcases of dress up clothes and two suitcases of shorts, shirts ect. so we don't have to drag every suitcase into the Yacht Club.

I would like to see the new "Pirates" dinner menu. I had planned Palo's that night but now I might change.

Ah, I love these kinds of decisions...

We are leaving on Thursday morning (driving), staying at BCV for 3 nights and then off to VB until the morning of the cruise. My DS16 is pretty shy so I hope he meets up with others at the DisMeet the 1st day onboard. My Dniece11 on the other hand, makes friends so easily.

It is about a 1 1/2 hour drive form VB to the port.

We did that today also. Just about finished packing and can't wait to get going!

Pxie dust to all for a safe trip and good weather!

Anyone think we'll hit 200 pages before we go? What an awesome board and you all are a great group of people.
Thanks for all the info.

Hi Ellen: I think our DSs have been emailing, so I hope they hit it off when we finally all get to meet on the ship :)

One Million still without power in Florida, I'm sure that is why we haven't heard from Melanie.

So what do you all think with us getting a hurricane when its our time to sail, do you think we will have crystal clear waters and sail the Western Caribbean OR outsmart GASTON and visit the Eastern Caribbean. I like what someone else said on another thread that "Gaston" the name for a storm with a "G" has a score to settle with Disney LOL

In 2000 we had a very interesting cruise with Disney. We didn't know from one minute to the next where we were going since we were out running a hurrcaine. We found it to be great. We stopped in Cozumel, Freeport and we did Castaway Cay for 2 days. The captain kept us out of the storm and we didn't even see a drop of rain.

I feel as long as we get on board everything will be fine.

Last year we left for our cruise the day after the big black out in New York, all of the planes were either cancelled or very late. Some of the cruisers didn't make it to the ship at all and some chose to start driving to another state to get a plane.

Right then I knew that I had made the right decision to travel the day before the cruise and that I would never travel on the same day the cruise leaves, too many things can go wrong.

So there's already a storm named Gaston?? LOL I'm not too worried about what would happen once we got on board, it's just getting TO Florida and onto the ship on time that I'm a concerned about. I just hope we all have good weather so we can make down to get onto the ship. After that, I know the captain would keep us all safe, even if we had to divert to other ports or just stay at sea.

I am trying not to say much here at home, but is anyone else worried about the weather, pre-cruise, like I am? We are flying in the day before, but if there's bad weather that day, I'm worried that we still wouldn't be able to get on another flight in time. I know there is nothing we can do about the weather, and usually I don't worry about weather, but after waiting ALLLLL this time for this cruise..... Well, you all know what I mean. LOL

P.S. (I don't mean to make light of those poor people in Florida who lost their lives, homes, and those still who have no electricity :( )

I know just what you mean Terry.

My 13 year old just came down and gave me the weather forecast for NEXT Sunday. Granted a lot can change by then, but so far we're in the clear to get out.

I too am not concerned once we're on the ship. I've sailed in a hurricane before (Andrew in '94) We were fine. OK I admit one night it was a little rocky LOL.

All right you guys...now I'm really starting to get worried. We had no choice but to fly in the day of the cruise, sooo now I am officially worried! :worried: Our flight is at 7am, so I'm hoping we would still get there in time. If not, I guess we'll be doing Disney. I'm still trying to find one more dressy outfit for either semi-formal or formal night. Not having much luck! Well, I'll just have to keep looking. Are all of you bringing your kids to formal & semi-formal night? I figured that would be the one or two nights I would let my kids skip dinner with us.(Not that I think they have any plans on joining us for dinner!)LOL! I really hope someone hears from Melanie soon, I really hope her & her family are ok & we haven't heard from her due to electrical being out. Anyway, hope everyone has a great week! Kathy :wave2:

Kathy - we will probably bring our kids to formal night dinner.. I like getting dressed up that night and hope to get a nice family portrait to have made in to xmas cards.

Once dinner is over though, we change the kids and put them in the clubs... my DS (6) can only stand a suit for so long.

I cant believe our cruise is almost here... I am all done packing except for a few last minute toiletries that I cant pack til friday night. I have 5 suitcases and 1 cooler for the beer and smoothie maker!!! and the camcorder bag.... I did much better than I thought I would.

Have a good week all.

Ginny
