August 28, 2004 "LOST AT SEA" Cruise

Have you guys been watching the news lately?

Up here in Washington, we don't have to worry about hurricanes... just volcanos. It looks like Mount St. helens is going to erupt again. The experts expect it to happen within the next week. Fortunately, it won't be nearly as devistating as the 1980 eruption, but they are expecting an ash cloud that could reach a couple thousand feet. The prediction is that the prevailing winds will take the cloud south or south-west of the mountain. I live NNW of it - thank goodness. I wouldn't want to get caught in that mess again!

For anyone interested in first-hand stories of the 1980 eruption, corner me sometime. I was in eastern Washington visiting a friend the weekend it erupted and was delayed getting home for several days (sound familiar?) It was a once in a lifetime experience - hopefully.

My friends have been teasing me since I got back from the cruise that I draw natural disaters to me like a magnet. They claim that they are going to start asking where I'm going on vacation and then they will go somewhere else. (LOL)

Dori

Yikes, Dori!! I'm glad to hear that the ash cloud won't be heading in your direction. Keep us posted on what happens with it, ok?? :)

Just a follow-up to my travel insurance claim for the days after the cruise.

Access America is great, I just received a check for $632.00 for our extra days after the cruise and my expenses on the ship after 9/4. They paid for everything that I charged on my ship account after 9/4, I did not bill them for souvineers and they also paid for everything that we purchased when we got back to Disney. I submitted my bill for park tickets with the thought that they would tell me no way, but they paid everything. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO TERRY, I think you suggested this company.

Lyn

Lyn, how did you submit the bill to the insurance company? Did you just send in the Account Summary from the ship, and they paid for everything after the 4th?? I still haven't submitted anything to them, because I dont know what to do.

And yes, it was me who mentioned Access America. I'm glad they are coming through for us :)

Along the same lines, I thought some one mentioned they were looking to be reimbursed for lost wages? Did this happen?

I don't think there was much after 9/4 that I wouldn't have paid for any way - hotel, food. Maybe internet usage?

I'm not sure if I had access america - who ever All Seasons uses? What other things could I put in for?

Terry:

I sent them a letter from the cruise line. (I am sending you a PM) , the final bill from the cruise, I sent them all of my receipts from after we left the ship I made sure I kept them, the car rental receipt for the extra days and I also sent them a copy of my boarding passes for the airline to prove when we flew home. I also asked for reimbursment for my husband's lost day of pay which they did not pay and I really didn't think they would. But I am more than happy with what they did pay.

Lyn

I just sent in my claim for lost items... the infamous BERKIES and Marty lost a pair of perscription sunglasses on an excursion. We too had ACCESS AMERICA... Karen is going to sumbit for the lost wages and the extra charges on board... WISH US LUCK....

Lyn, I have been waiting for a letter fr4om the cruise line stating that we were delayed... Do you have a copy that we can use as well?? Or who did you get that letter from??
Doreen

We have to make this thread at least 20 pages. some of the others hardly have 7-10 pages. What a riot they must be thinking.:jester:

Melanie,,, are you still with us? Are you and your family ok after JEANNE?? Please let us know.

Doreen

Ok, here's my contribution in trying to make this thread 200 pages long. LOL

Lyn: I got your email, thank you!

Everyone: Thanks for "electing" me to do the weekly countdown on the new thread. I can't wait to start, today! :sunny:

Edited to add: ok, now we're at 199 pages!! :p

I was just reading this post and I saw all the WORD To in RED?? what gives.. At first I thought it was TERRY being creative...
Hmmm.
Terry. can you tell me how to add apicture to my signature please. It took me 3 weeks to change the countdown...lol

Doreen

Did you do a search or something, Doreen? LOL Usually if you do a search, the word you were searching for will appear in red in all of the posts. Somehow I don't think you were doing a search for the word "to", though. :p

My husband does all of my tech stuff for me, including adding the pictures to my signature. All I know is that your picture has to be hosted on the internet somewhere, then you just add that link into your signature. I'm sure that John could talk you through doing it, and if you need a web site to host your picture, we could put it up on ours. :)

Here's my contribution towards page 200!!!

Well, we have finally made a decision about our 2006 cruise -- and decided to bite the bullet and try something different. (Yes, that decision even shocked me). We are opting for an Alaskan cruise. I didn't think I was ready yet to leave the secure folds of DCL -- but I know that after next year's 2-week cruise and after this past one, we will be ready to do something other than the Caribbean. Plus, I just can't justify this time spending that much to do another week in the Caribbean. The rates shot up so fast and I checked out the other cruise sites and can actually get a suite with a full balcony for an 11-day cruise for less than I would pay for a Category 6 in the summer on DCL.

The only thing -- I'm so confident on DCL -- I know all the good rooms and dining and ins and outs. But I know we'll be back, even though my daughter will be 20 by then. Maybe when their new ship comes out. Of course, that will be ANOTHER bidding war!

If anyone has any suggestions about cruise lines in Alaska, let me know. I have a separate thread about this already started and am getting a lot of positive feed back about Princess, Celebrity and Holland America. Everyone is saying to stay away from RCCL and NCL.

Thanks,

Cathy

I Hear you Invaderzim...We are trying another cruise line in the summer of 2005. After being on DCL for 10 nights I was ready to try another line. Since I am trying another in 2005, I booked 8/19/06 with DCL.

Cathy:

Have you been to www.cruisecritic.com ?? They have message boards for all of the major cruise lines, plus a board devoted to ports of call around the world. I like reading the boards for our Royal Caribbean cruises.

I definitely can understand your desire to try a different cruise line. So far, we've been alternating each year between Royal Caribbean and Disney.

I wonder why people are telling you to stay away from RCI? I've heard wonderful things about their Alaskan cruises.

Happy cruise-researching!! :) Maybe you can come back and tell us what you've found out. I'd love to do an Alaskan cruise some day!

Hi folks
Here is my contribution to the 200 pages.
If you go to big eastern dis meet I'll see you there.
