August 25, 2012 Magic in NYC!!!!

I always look to see if my cruise price has gone up so I feel better about booking, lol.

My category has not gone up in price, but has anyone else noticed that an outside cabin is now cheaper than an inside for this particular cruise?

2 adults:

Cat 11C: 3784.12$
Cat 10A: 4003.12$
Cat 9C: 3651.12$
Cat 9B: 3827.12$

Not sure what the original inside cabins were price at, but they seem to be selling out quickly!

And a 9A Cat is only around 30$ cheaper than a Cat 7A? Wow.

These are the prices I got for 3 people sailing! yikes! They have gone up quite a bit!

I've had to step off for a bit: vacation, school starting, activities starting :crazy2:, and those pesky tropical systems. Two "snow" days already, and we haven't even had a full week yet!

Although this board did not go crazy, I have to admit I've lost track of the comings and goings. For those of you would had to cancel, sorry we'll miss you. For those of you who have joined, :wave2:.

Glad I missed the drama over the possible change in alcohol policy. Much happier finding out about it after fact (and when it has come to nothing). Not that we imbibe that much, but it's nice to have my glass of vino in the room (w/ the cheese platter from room service :thumbsup2) while getting ready for dinner. I would have been majorly unhappy.

And, I don't worry about travelling in hurricane season, as the boat just goes around. I'm not worried about boarding in NYC either, because, let's face it, how often does NY get hit with a tropical storm, and then what is the likelihood it will happen again in the same time frame?

Anyway, nice to be back. Hope everyone was OK with the storms, no damage.

P.S. Pixiedustdawn, why does your screen name look familiar? Were you on the Magic in August 2009? Do you do trip reports that I might have read?

Sorry, me again. I had noted that on the itinerary the ashore time at Cape Canaveral is 6:15 am, and all aboard at 11:30. Considering it is about an hour drive to WDW, what could you possibly do there that early in the morning? What time does character breakfasts start? Will we be eligible for early entry (I'm assuming we will)?

So many questions. While we a speculating, what night do we think pirate night will be? And, will they be serving dinner on the WDW night, or will they assume most will be eating at WDW and just do some sort of buffet/informal dining?

About serving dinner: I would assume that they will, as it seems to me that they do so even on the most popular ports. On our recent Med cruise, according to what our server told us, the ship was almost deserted for first dinner seating on Rome day. People started coming in about halfway through their dinner seating, mostly straight off the busses in shorts and t-shirts and our server said everything was a bit chaotic ... but dinner, nonetheless.

About early entry at WDW - you're right, I hadn't thought about thast but sure do hope that we will be eligible. Otherwise there really would be no point to getting on that earliest bus, would there? :confused3

The buses may not leave at 6:15. Not all excursions leave at ashore time.

Yes, I did sail with you that year. I was the one that sailed for the month of August. Will be doing the same (or longer) this year. :)

Well hello again:wave2:. Now, when you say this year, do you mean this year (2011) or next year (2012)? If next year, will you be doing all the sailing out of NY?

I'm very excited. The cruise is the "big" gift for Christmas this year. I've been trying to figure out a way of "presenting" it to the kids. I got a catalog in the mail, and in it there is a cruise ship, and they will personalize it for you! Perfect. Go :santa:!

I saw a mention of a Facebook page....can someone give me some info on that???

Thats sounds so exciting! I bet the kids will be thrilled. I had purchased the Disney Cruise Mickey one year from Macy's and presented it to my daughter at Christmas to let her know we were sailing Disney again. Now, she helps me plan them.

I will be sailing on the New York, Disney Cruise in 2012 for about a month. Can't wait!!

Page 4?! Unacceptable! :snooty:

Mike and I sailed the Dream B2B 9/25-10/2. While she is a lovely ship, we definitely preferred "our" rooms on the Magic and Wonder. :goodvibes

Speaking of B2Bs ... Disney's B2B procedures were abysmal. Or I should say non-existent. I wrote a letter to DCL upon our return to tell them as much, and I got a stock reply. Thankfully, I cc'd my TA who forwarded the message up her Disney contact chain, and I've been assured that Disney will not be leaving B2B guests on their own (on turnaround day) going forward and would be putting some procedures in place. So ... I am just hoping they iron out these details before they hit NYC. We've sailed out of Manhattan before. We would not want what happened in Port Canaveral to happen in Manhattan. I know there is at least one other couple sailing B2B on this cruise. If things change, perhaps I'll insist upon being called Norma Rae? :lmao:

Hope everyone is well .. and just think. Today is 10/25. Our cruise is exactly 10 months away! :thumbsup2

:crazy2:10 more months! I suppose I should be happy that the cruise is (incrementally) getting closer, but it is not helping that over the next two weeks my quad mates at work will be (separately) visiting Costa Rica, San Francisco and Bermuda. I guess I'll just stay behind and answer the phones. :sad1:

Anybody out there drink wine????

We own a wine shop and would like to possibly have a pre-cruise meet and greet at our store....

Looking to see if anyone would be interested!!! we are in Southern Westchester County, NY (only 30 minute ride from NYC on Metro North)...

Me! I would live to see your shop. Keep me posted if you decide to do it. :goodvibes

Would love to be there!! How far are you from northern NJ??...I am about 20 minutes from the Tappan Zee.

Hi, here's the other B2B couple! :thumbsup2
I must admit that you have me a bit worried here - could you elaborate a little on what was so abysmal about DCL handling their B2B guests? So far, I have pretty much only read good things about it, including one guest doing B2B on our Med cruise who said she felt "treated like royalty" due to the fact that she was doing a B2B ... :confused3

We most certainly do drink wine :goodvibes ...
I admit, though, that we probably won't be able to make it out of town as this will be our first visit and we will only have less than two days for sightseeing. How about you bring a couple of bottles to the terminal? :lmao:

Well, I think that DCL's B2B procedures are inconsistent, and depend upon the ship. And I don't think they knew what to do with us Dream B2Bers. They didn't have procedures at all. If we weren't in the same stateroom, we might as well have booked 2 separate cruises, because that's how they treated us. We had no meeting place with other B2Bers. No DCL escort. They made us go through customs with families who were disembarking that day, trying to find their luggage. We had to sit and wait for the terminal to open so we could check in again, and then we had to sit around and wait for the ship to open. Unacceptable. We told several people we were B2B, and no one cared. They just pointed us to go through customs or sit in the terminal. The whole process was confusing, wondering were we really in the right place, and it took too long (close to 2 hours).

My TA sent my complaint up the DCL chain as I was not satisifed with the answer I received from my initial communication. I've been assured that my complaint went up very high and procedures are being put in place to make sure what happened to us won't happen again. :thumbsup2

The reason, I guess, I was so ticked off at DCL's lack of procedures was one because Holland America handles B2Bs much better (and DCL is supposed to be a leader), and two, we did not want the same thing to happen in NY.
