August 25, 2012 Magic in NYC!!!!

.

You are lucky! Our town camp/recreation program stinks. Even when our adult boys were kids it was bad. It is only 6 weeks, and is too short of a day. It is basically group babysitting.

That's exactly how our town camp program works. Obviously they do not schedule these camps with the working parent in mind.

My sister and her beau have decided not to join us. They may fly down and meet us on our day in WDW, which could be fun, but, again, not good at decisions (dating 5 years next month, need I say more?). The only problem is that because I was looking at the VGT prices for her, I now know that we could now get a verandah for less then we paid for a porthole. Sigh :sad2:. So much for the early booking discount.

 Hot enough for you?

I get one kid back this Saturday (which is also 7 weeks until we board!) and the other one gets to visit for a couple of hours before he goes back for 2 more weeks of camp. It has been brutal hot here (and I hope that any of you in the path of that storm last weekend are all right), and I keep thinking about 2 weeks ago before the kids left. DS was playing on the iPad, and I asked him what he was going to miss more, the iPad or his Mom! Smart kid answered, "air conditioning".

Everybody stay cool!

I get my DD back on Sat. also :cool1:! My guess is once your DS comes back, they will start texting again.

I hate to rush the summer, but I can't wait until the end of August!

We get him back for a few hours on Saturday. We figure he is not going to know what to do first: A long shower, play on the computer, or text!

Half of me hates that the summer goes fast, but half likes the routine of the school year. All I know is that time seems to go so fast anymore, seven weeks will likely fly by. And a cruise is a great way to end the summer/begin the school year!

I was just thinking along the same lines yesterday, Denise.
The days fly by if i'm not doing anything and i was thinking about establishing a routine - like forcing myself to spend some time writing, make sure i get out of the house, go for a walk or bike ride, actually do some work/planning for next year rather than try to cram in all in the couple days before school starts - LOL
(not to mention to get those boxes in the den unpacked (we bought the new house in April! - LOL)
I do miss my bug though - I don't get HER back until the 15th - and she'd probably just going to want to spend all of that time on her computer - she's probably going through withdrawals (or she's figured out how to access the internet through her kindle by now)
I've got to keep myself busy until then, but I don't want to start our fish extenders without her either - she loves doing crafts and such. But the retail therapy is really starting to hurt...

ok i think i've rambled on enough for the day.
So how's everyone else's summer going?

Oh yeah...Lost 2 lbs/12 in. so far!!! YAY me!

Now that a VGT rate has come out, I'm considering this cruise over the Fantasy. My DH would prefer not to fly and we are about a 3 hour drive to the port in NY. We will have a 10 year old DD (almost 11) with us. Would she be able to do the Lab or Edge or both. I've heard it several ways so I am a bit confused. This would be our first time cruising.

Welcome - we were actually booked on the Fantasy cruise first and when this was announced switched. We are saving over $2k on the room and airfare of about $1200. It was a good decision as far as we are concerned.

So here's the deal, based on what I've seen and read. I have 2 11 year olds and they are now legitimately in the Edge. When we did our 2 day in June, it didn't seem that they ever checked the age of the kids, they kind of came and went as they wanted. What I've heard is that if the child has a bracelet from the club or lab, that's when they deny entrance. makes sense since they would then know the kid was too young. You can't even register your child for anything when they turn 11. I've heard of people saying that the counselors on the QT tell the parents to return the bracelet and they will let them in...don't know if it's true, but it makes sense.

That's what happened to us on the Dream. They told me to return the Mickey band my DD10 had on so she can go to the Edge. I will most likely inquire once we're on the Magic to see if the Edge is an option.

We were also originally booked on the Fantasy (way back when), but switched when this came out. Where are you from? We live in South East, Ma and are about 3-3 1/2 hours away by car. Our DD (13) will be in the Edge as well.

:rotfl2:I am going to bring DD phone with us for the ride home (over 3 hours), but I am going to hold it hostage until she at least tells us a bit about camp! I am sure once we get home a nice long hot shower will be in the cards.

YAY you! Today I committed to 14 pds in 7 weeks (2 pds/week). I can do this!

Those VGT rates sure are nice, aren't they? :thumbsup2 If you do decide to join us, there are a ton on 10 year old girls! You can spit and hit a 10 year old girl (note, I am not advocating spitting on 10 year old girls :rotfl2:) My 10 year old DD would probably LOVE to be in the Edge, but her 13 year old brother will not want her there! In any case, she is eyeing up the out and about activities.

Jim "hid" his phone. It took me two minutes to find it. I put it back exactly where I found it, and his father found it even faster. I'll going to let him believe he hid it well and not bring it with me. Although I should as his sister will probably dominate the conversation, and it will give him something to do (although in our case only a 40 minute ride).

We are getting close! DH, DD (6 going on 16), from Bklyn. Booked Nassau Blue Lagoon Beach Day, anyone else? Or anyone done it before? Anyone know if we can upgrade to a water park and if there is transportation there? Thanks!!

If there's availability you can change excursions on the ship. Never been to Nassau on a cruise ship before, so I can't comment on the one you picked. Ask people from the previous summer cruises on the main board and see what kind of response you get.

The boards have reviews of the excursions here:

Unfortunately, there is not a review of the blue lagoon beach day, only the dolphin encounter. I was considering the beach day, but I read a review somewhere (could have sworn it was here, but guess not :confused3) that said the line for the boat on the way back can be long. I'll look around and see if I can find that review.

So, I got one kid back yesterday from camp. She is tired, bruised, scraped and so happy (that's what we paid for!).

The other one visited for a couple of hours before he headed back for two more weeks of fun. Just have to share that he got an award for the first camping session: the Band Aid award. Seems a bug crawled into his ear while he was sleeping :scared1:. Guess it took the medical staff a bit of effort to get it out.

I'm totally wigged out, but note that he happily went back.

maybe THAT's why they call them earwigs!!!!
makes perfect sense now
:crazy2:
