August 24, 2014 Dream DVC Member Cruise

Silly question as we never cruise before. What is pirate night? I meant what are the things that happening on pirate night?

pirate:
Before you go to dinner, you should get at least a pirate neckerchief on your bed to wear as an accessory. Many people, 30% or more wear pirate costumes to dinner that night!

The menu in all main dining rooms have a pirate theme. Usually each dining room has it's unique menu, but all are the same on Pirate night.

There is a deck party, show involving pirates on the open decks, and then fireworks off the Starboard side of the ship. In January, 2013 Member Cruise, we all got the mouse ears hats that lit up colors that coordinated with the fireworks.

After the fireworks there is a pirate buffet in Cabanas. Smoked turkey legs are featured, baked potato with all fixings you would like, much more including fruit.

The fireworks go off around 10-10:30. They last about 5 minutes. It is not a display like Wishes. I seem to remember mostly reds.

We've been part of that 30% for each of our prior cruises…. this year we really aren't feeling it though for some reason??? We'll probably dress up a bit, but to a lesser extent.

Is there any interest to meet and trade pins?

Sadly our #1 pin trader (DS 19) won't be joining us on this journey. He would have jumped at this because he still loves to trade pins. He lifeguards in the summer and signs a contract that requires him to work over Labor Day weekend in return for a very nice bonus. So he's staying behind this year. :sad1:

Wish we were going to wdw first so we could meet up with you all....guess we have to wait til we are onboard....getting close now!! We leave in less than two weeks!!

Are you going to WDW afterwards? We have 2 nights at BCV.

Hey everyone. Planning a get together @ 2 first day on the ship. Mostly for the kids to get to know each other but the adults too! So if you aren't on Facebook and would like to come just let me know 1. If you would like to come and 2. the name of your child for something for them at the get together. Thanks! Oh and the meet up is at D Lounge!

So--I am only now getting my outfit for pirate night. Noticing most of them are ummm....."Sexy." :worried: ALso--How elaborate do the costumes get? I'm looking at some costumes for my husband and children and am thinking that it's gonna be too hot for a lot of it.

My guess is that some change before the fireworks if it is too hot. The picture taking and dinner time are where I mostly notice costumes.

My DH does not wear the hat, wig from the Jack Sparrow costume, definitely too warm for him outside.

How about a white shirt, black pants and a red sash? You could also add a vest to it, and an eye patch?pirate:

That is pretty much exactly what I have worn on each of our cruises. Someone with way more talent than me made the vest and sash. The shirt was like, Seinfeld's puffy shirt, but not as puffy!!! :rotfl: Bottom line - I was comfortable and survived the night in it. Though I did change into shorts after pictures.

I do not even have "puffy", but my colors are black and white too! Then I mix it up with my Goofy pirate ears.pirate:

Well--We are in need of some pixie dust! My sweet husband had an unexpected appendectomy last night. They thought they might be able to do it laparoscopically but it was too involved and they had to make a fairly large incision. He's a physician and we were 3 hours from home when it hit. Wouldn't let me take him to the nearest hospital--Made me drive him to where he works. We are hoping that we can still make the cruise. Been looking forward to it for a long time. He surprised us with it last Christmas. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers!
