August 22nd 2009 Western Carribbean Anyone?

To all the scouters, I was uploading some photo's to the group website, so thought I would put a couple here for you. The first is of us at the Opening ceremony. The other two shown the bar sign and the bar tent. We were impressed as this is run by the Kent Scouts and tours various events down there. The Beer was good as well, straight from the Barrels and very well kept.
If you want to look at the rest of the photo's have a look at our website - 11thstaffordscouts dot org dot uk.
Right last minute shopping and packing to do, we leave Wednesday.
See you all next Saturday.

David.....fantastic pics. :thumbsup2 We Scout leaders in the U.S. could only dream of having a bar like that at our camping trips. That is way too civilized.

Loved the sign that said "crooked staff". Next time I'm in charge of a camping trip I'm going to put up a sign like that on my door/tent....make it a play on words.

Hey MickC, my family is heading down on the 21st from S. Deerfield, MA (if you've ever heard of it, near UMass Amherst) Are you leaving from Logan? We fly out of Bradley, I'll be the one attempting to herd 2 toddlers.

We'll be flying out of Providence (first time for us!). Was actually our your way (sort of) at 6 Flags this past Thursday with 3 teenagers (2 of mine and a friend).

I checked out your troop website. It looks like evereyone had a great time.

Did you have a contest -making clothes out of trash bags?

The Scouting looks fun Fluffy Bunny and Maza.

Hope I can get a few pix of our summer camp before we go. The gentleman with the disc is off on a personal vacation now, and will likely not return in time. Here is one that I snapped when the boys were off at skills.

For the first time this year we were able to motivate the troop to compete in the camp competitions. Our big wins were Honor Troop, The Nature Scavenger hunt (one point off the all time high) and Archery (we swept all 12 awards and took second in many of them, too).

For those of us still bothering to count!

The kids are starting to think I am addicted to the Weather Channel (actually, I am a long time addict, the joke around here is that my Jim was named for Jim Cantore). Anyway, I'm thinking positive, and it looks like our flight to Florida on Friday may be bumpy, but a go. I don't think there will be any problem getting to the port on Saturday at all. Once we get on the boat, who knows :confused3.

Most toiletries got packed yesterday, laundry is going, and I need to borrow a bigger suitcase from my parents, but packing goes on. It's going to be near 90 here today, so hoping to squeeze in a trip to the pool. Can't believe the wait is almost over!:yay:

"Hello, my name is Tammi and I am also a Weather Channel Addict":rotfl:

But seriously, I have always loved the weather channel for two reason:
1. I am a teacher in Michigan where getting a phone call at 5 am saying you don't have to go to work (snow day) feels like you won the lottery.

2. I love thunderstorms. I darker the sky the more expected I get. I am sure when I am old and gray I will be sitting in my garage watching the storms roll in, but for now I have to be responsible and make sure the kiddos are inside and safe.

I, too, had to borrow bigger luggage from my parents. The kids are I leave on Tuesday and Jon will join us late Wednesday night (his boss is a big meanie:mad:).

I am all packed, the house is clean and my classroom is all set up and ready to go. I am just waiting and watching the weather channel as time passes.

We are flying out of Providence Wednesday Morning.:cool1: We live in Southern Ma. About 45 min. from airport. We prefer to fly from Prov. easier than getting to Boston..:thumbsup2

Another weather channel fan. Personally, I think Jim Cantore is kind of hot :lovestruc ;)

My all time favorite was Paul Kosin, the winter weather expert. If he came on then you knew there was going to be a big snow dump.

As a skier, I am a weather junkie. During the winter I'm always checking accuweather.com.

Yes, it does appear that T.S. Bill won't be a big threat to us (whew). Hopefully the worst will be some overcast weather for the sailaway party.

For those of us still around and posting this week, let's post on each day what we will be doing on that particular day on the Magic. Today will be Key West day. We're planning on staying onboard and not doing doing any excursions. We'll spend the money on excursions in Grand Cayman and Cozumel.

I think at Key West, we're going to get off and just walk around for a few hours. I would like to go to the southernmost point just to say I did it. Maybe shop a bit.

We have Palo at 6pm on Key West day so we'll make sure we're back in plenty of time.

Key West day- we will be having a bit of a walk around, picking up a few t-shirts in Margaretaville, i have a friend who is a big Jimmy B fan:)...maybe a little train trip. Then hanging round Mallory Square waiting for the sun to go down...with a glass in hand ...obv:rolleyes1
Last time we where in Key west we had to leave wwwwaaaayyy before sundown...so this time we want to join in! Love those Florida sunsets:cool2:

Scouting- yes, well,,, the camp was awsome:lovestruc...not too much of the traditional scouting malarky...just a bit of climbing and absailing...but great fun. Planning next years trip already, but this will be a more traditional affair, which meand more work for the Scouters...but hey ho! I just provide the kit and food:) We are planning to take Daves older Scouts ( 14+)..and a few Explorers ( 14+)lol...to Gilwell24 next year. should be interesting:rotfl2:

well, I have scrubbed my kitchen, if we are burgled whilst on holiday atleast they wont think someone had beat them to it:rolleyes:...just a few more rooms to go...and just one more working day :banana:

DH is tracking tropical storms as we speak...I am nodding...but not really listening...is it Claudette next:confused3....ah..we are old hurricain hands..and on a boat. As long as nothing stops us getting to Fl I will be happy:yay:

Fuffy bunny and maza

I checked out your troop website. It looks like evereyone had a great time.

Did you have a contest -making clothes out of trash bags?

Yes Christie...Bin Bag Bond evening. They had to make formal wear out of bin bags (although 'formal' was obviously debatable!) The girly on the right in a blue bin bag dress is our eldest DD...showing that some ppl can look good in bin bags:hug:
The lad in pink trousers is Daves Troop Assistant ...we have some interesting pictures to blackmail him with when he goes for his Warrant Committee interview when he turns 18..:scared1:

Finally kicked out all of the relations that I can't claim on my tax return!! Now to finish cleaning up after them!! We are exhausted, but excited to spend the next few days on cruise preparations!! :woohoo:

Have tons still left to do, including a complete scrub down of my house (especially my powder room that my dim bulb sister flooded last night at midnight)!! Some lame "it wasn't my fault" comment, but DH wasn't buying it. He told her that the rule of thumb is when your A$$ gets wet, you stop flushing!!!:lmao::lmao: You definitely need comic relief when your immediate family is comprised of 24 people!!!

Our plans for Key West have changed since the seas seem like they could be choppy. We were going to go on a snorkeling catamaran trip, but are now going to do the trolley and walk around. Have to hit the southermost point and get the key lime on a stick among other stops. I found a great spot (which I'll share once I find my notes) at a roof top patio/lounge of a hotel that you can see all over key west, the atlantic ocean and the caribbean sea. Just haven't decided if we'll start there or sunset there.

I'm with all the ladies and their crushes on Jim Cantore. He is great!! They probably put him on site to distract the women from the bedlam outside!! It would work for me!!

Can't wait to see you all!!

Terri

PS Maria and Dave, your camping trip looked like so much fun and definitely not like any scout camping trip I've been on!!

Today will be Key West day.

Christi and the kids and I were going to walk to Fort Zachary Taylor, until we saw pictures not taken from a favorable angle and saw that the San Juan Forts or others we have been to are far larger and this would be a letdown.

Therefore, we will be walking Whitehead Street to the Southernmost point Buoy and then hitting South Beach for a swim. Then we will stroll through Duval Street back and hit the shops, get some Key Lime Pie, a Margarita of course from JB's and wait for the sunset at Malory Square.

I need a favor... i recently went on the cruise and there was a part of the ship i wanted a picture of but i missed. if anyone can help me out let me know, all it would take is 2 seconds of your time.

Maria - Sorry, but we leave Key West about an hour before sunset. I'll miss sunset from Mallory Square as well. But we'll have fun on the ship!

The current forcast for TS (almost hurricane) Bill keeps it well offshore. So we might have rougher than normal seas leaving Port Canaveral, but other than that issue the forecast looks great for our cruise!

Six days from right now we'll be enjoying the sailaway party! See you all soon!

I am all packed, the house is clean and my classroom is all set up and ready to go. I am just waiting and watching the weather channel as time passes.

I would love to say that my house is clean before we leave, but I think that might be a bridge too far!

Another weather channel fan. Personally, I think Jim Cantore is kind of hot :lovestruc ;)

Yes he is :thumbsup2. I have trouble falling asleep when I am alone in the house. Every noise is someone breaking in, even though I know it's just the house settling, a car outside, etc. I find that if I leave the TV on, I can't hear the noises, and I fall asleep. But, you have to be careful what you leave on, lest you wake up at 2 AM to a slasher flick :scared1:. (Try to get back to sleep after that).

The point of this story? When we first got married, Mark was working many nights. Jim Cantore was doing mostly late nights way back then. Many a night, I have slept with Jim Cantore!:rolleyes1

I found a great spot (which I'll share once I find my notes) at a roof top patio/lounge of a hotel that you can see all over key west, the atlantic ocean and the caribbean sea.

I've been there! 20 years ago it was a Holiday Inn, don't know what it is now. Glad to hear you got rid of the relatives. What is it about relatives and overflowing toilets? My nephew did the same thing last time he was here.

The problem with the original link was the double HTTP on the front.

Thank you! It's the really easy fixes that embarrass me the most!
